Singer Juniel is planning to make a comeback later this month.

Agency FNC Entertainment shared photos of the solo artist in the studio. As her debut song “Illa Illa” ranked high on music charts for 30 straight weeks, fans are looking forward to what the singer-songwriter will return with next.

Juniel stated, “I’m planning to return with a new album and greet you all. I’m in the final stages of recording these days, and when I think about standing on stage, I feel nervous, but I’m very much looking forward to it. I was really happy that ‘Illa Illa’ received so much love, and I hope this new song will too.

Still no tag ;_;

i didn't like illa illa that much but it did reakky well digitally so i'm kinda curious what her next mini album will sound like

Shameless plug, but I'm hoping it will sound like any of the songs I recced here: http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/10123485.html?view=1034262749#t1034262749

I really feel like it's a shame that "illa illa" is how most people in Korea or kpop comms know her, because imo, it's not a song that is really representative of her music style and creativity. And even the original songs she put out on her first Korean mini ("Mask", "Ready go!", "Everlasting Sunset") end up sounding more like Korean remakes, because they were already released in Japanese months earlier.

i love Sakura, Mask and Everlasting Sunset
such pretty songs with beautiful lyrics, she's talented

She really is, I wish more people knew that. ;~; I want her to be able to go beyond being the "illa illa" girl, because while it is a nice song on its own, it's not representative of her talent.

Mask is everything, I love it so much.
lovelyxbeauty 9th-Nov-2012 08:39 pm (UTC)
:D I loved her mini-album and the MV for illa, illa was cute but sad at the same time :)

Well with IUnhyuk happening, hi new Korean Little Sister, I loved your first mini.
deerlike 10th-Nov-2012 12:18 am (UTC)
lol :( that is just going to draw more hatred towards her, because OMG HOW DARE SHE TRY TO REPLACE IU!!1! Even though she's consistently denied the comparison and said she wants to be recognized as her own person.

no.

I know she doesn't have many fans on this comm, but I love her sfm and I'm hoping that her upcoming album will feature more of her original compositions, and maybe she can promote an original title song too! My kpop ye-ye girl. ;~;♥

btw, for anyone unimpressed by "illa illa", a song written for her rather than one she composed herself, have a listen instead to these self-composed songs from her Japanese discography:

It's kind of sad that she's gotten to flex her creative muscles more in Japan, and in a second language, than she has in Korea/her native tongue.

FNC does CNBlue the same way. Maybe they'll let her do more in the future.
deerlike Re: unrepentant stanning10th-Nov-2012 02:57 am (UTC)
Good point. I don't follow them too closely, but I've read enough on Omona about how FNC doesn't allow them much creative freedom in Korea.

It's annoying, because fans and the general audience in Korea would probably appreciate more original work put out by groups, if the success of Busker Busker is any indication.

Yeah, they're just now saying the band will have more control over the lead single on their next Korean album, and look at how long CNBlue has been releasing music in Korea. I hope they do that for Juniel a lot earlier, because she's already one of my favorites and I hadn't even heard her Japanese music before she came out with that Korean mini.

Jeez, poor guys. I imagine therein lies the rub: because on the one hand, they could have creative freedom under an indie label, but they wouldn't have the kind of nation-wide exposure (and endorsement) they currently enjoy. It's a bit faustian, really.

And ditto, I wouldn't have known about her Japanese releases if someone hadn't mentioned them in one of the earliest Juniel posts made on this comm. In fact, I remember giving the Korean mini a listen and thinking, this sounds promising, so learning that much of it was essentially a "remake" of her Japanese stuff was like unexpectedly receiving a present. I know I tend to gush when it comes to Juniel, but I can honestly say that she has talent, and the lyrics/melodies she's composed attest to that. So I really hope she gets to show more of that, and brush aside the "wannabe IU" remarks aside.
lightframes Re: unrepentant stanning10th-Nov-2012 04:40 am (UTC)
Yeah, the other stuff on their Korean albums that they write and compose is always better than the "prepackaged" singles. That needs to be brought to the fore.

Please keep gushing, lol. I actually like the IU comparisons because I like them both, but I know it could be a burden for Juniel because IU is already so popular.
deerlike Re: unrepentant stanning10th-Nov-2012 04:50 am (UTC)
Oh, don't get me wrong, I like IU! (Although I think she's more of a singer, while Juniel is more of a singer-songwriter, they sort of occupy different musical niches imo.)

I didn't like the comparisons partly because they fueled all this unnecessary hatred towards Juniel :/ but I guess all rookies have to face some kind of hatred when they start out, like it toughens them? I admit I'm a little overprotective of Juniel, though. How could anyone hate this adorable moppet?

I had no idea Juniel was attracting hate. But yeah, it was always going to be tough for her being a rookie. I hope her next album does so well people won't be able to deny her talent!
b1gay4 10th-Nov-2012 12:28 am (UTC)
why wasn't her contract terminated yet
twinkystar16 10th-Nov-2012 12:51 am (UTC)
she did well with Illa Illa, it rank higher digitally than FT Island and CNBLUE's songs release this year

Don't be rude, she's a talented girl if you bothered to actually listen to her stuff apart from "illa illa".
twinkystar16 10th-Nov-2012 12:50 am (UTC)
yay i love her..her songs are beautiful
lightframes 10th-Nov-2012 02:20 am (UTC)
Finally! Can't wait. I listened to her mini all summer.
gathyou 11th-Nov-2012 08:12 pm (UTC)
She definitively have potential. I'm curious about her new record, and I will totally listen to it :)
