the J2 is a joke tbh. Like the J1, it'll sell because it's well promoted not because it's the best option.

Nikon, give it up with the CX format sensors for real. I understand the direction you've gone for in this field but at least step up to a 4/3 like everyone else has. If you had that nice design but with the 4/3 sensor and some other kind of improvement on the j1 other than LCD and creative shooting mode on the dial I'd actually recommend this to people instead of the PM-1/ PM-2. If you could have everything on the camera pretty much the same (shutter speeds, fps in burst mode which are still unchanged from the J1, like a lot of the J2 features) but a larger sensor and a better range of lenses for the J range you'd be dam close to being the best in market. But no.
That's the bit I don't get, Nikon, I thought you were making the Js like a step up from compacts, rather than the 'SLR but smaller' approach Canon and Sony have taken, but then you expect people to use the full-size (full price) nikon lenses for SLR on the J body. That's dumb. You need to look at Panasonic's lens range and their efforts to make zoom lenses more compact and take a leaf out of their book.

Still, when a person says to me they want an entry level CSC, I look to the Panasonic and the Olympus. Not you, Nikon. Ilu but unless a customer says to me straight away 'I want a J1' I do not sell your J1s, J2s, V1s etc... And I'm a Nikon ambassador. :|

Dara looks nice though

what would you recommend for a beginner like me? I'm planning to buy a Nikon camera......

are you thinking of getting an SLR? Nikon's entry level SLRs are pretty much the best in the market. The D3100 or 3200 are really good choices for beginners. They offer you a lot of room to grow, the guide mode on them is an awesome feature that eases you out of auto settings. The d3100 has dropped in price a lot, and if you're in the UK, the single lens kit has £35 cashback, the twin lens has £60 cashback.

thanks for responding hmmmmmmmm I'm not in the uk right now but I'll look into getting an SLR.. I'm watching some reviews and I'm liking what I'm seeing. I am ignorant with cameras but you have to buy the lens right? the camera and the lens don't go together when you buy em?

It's quite possible there are cashback offers from Nikon outside of the UK, but I only know about where I am~

You get a lens in the box with the camera body. The standard lens that comes with most cameras (if not all) is a 18-55mm lens, which is like a wide 3x zoom. The twin lens kits comes with a second lens, which is your bigger zoom, the 3200 doesn't have a twin kit at the moment, but the 3100 comes with a 55-200mm zoom lens but the zoom lens in the kit isn't the greatest. It could be worth shopping around to see who can give you discount on a lens, or holding off and buying a zoom lens later. Bare in mind that other lens brands (Tamron, Sigma, Tonika) make nikon fit lenses and are often a lot cheaper.

the s110 is a nice camera, I love the ring function. I recall, though, it being pm the same as the s100 but with GPS (kinda like the SX240 vs the SX260) but the price difference is huge. I'd personally get the s100 new while I can and save my pennies, unless GPS is super important to you.

Are the other girls still involved with Nikon? It seems to me that with their endorsements they usually start as a group and eventually only Dara is kept.

they have some promotional stuff together as a group but tv ads are mostly dara.
