Eunhyuk gets flak for his latest joke on Strong Heart

Another guest on Strong Heart was talking about his search ranking for some event in 2009 and Eunhyuk chimed in to add, "My rank was #235 at the time. Although now, I'm sure it's gotten up much more." The MCs asked, "I wonder why?"

1. [+639, -80] Do you not have a brain? Think before you speak;

2. [+565, -68] What an idiot

3. [+560, -80] You trash, you really have nothing other to use for the show than that?

4. [+85, -44] I'm a girl and his comment really turned me off. Does he not know how much pain IU is going through right now because of what happened? And he thinks to use it as laughing matter on a variety show? I feel sad for IU

5. [+82, -16] What a fu*king idiot, why is every member in Super Junior nothing but trash?

6. [+81, -22] IU did make a mistake but it's not right for Eunhyuk to come out on TV and laugh and joke about it like this

7. [+64, -9] When's he going to the army?

8. [+60, -7] So trashy... You really had nothing else to say other than that? You should've just kept your mouth shut, instead you turned yourself into trash... Wow, seriously..

9. [+60, -7] Utter trash

10. [+48, -3] He really doesn't get the situation, does he? He's nothing but a speck in IU's life because he could never amount to what IU had career wise before what happened. He talks as if IU was the one hanging on to him. It's pathetic that IU was even once with trash like him. At least IU has talent, Eunhyuk is old and can't even sing to save his life. Trash without a speck of respect for women.

Here is a translation of the original article from AKP. Thank you asnindie!

Eunhyuk had viewers as well as the other stars on set laughing as he subtly brought up his previous photo incident in a light-hearted way.

On ‘Strong Heart‘ that was aired on the 15th, baseball playe Lee Yong Kyu discussed the attention he received during the 2009 World Baseball Classic in the Korea-Japan match. Lee Yong Kyu was hit on the head by the ball thrown at him by the opposing team’s pitcher and the news made headlines left and right.

Eunhyuk commented, “From March 5th, 2009 to the 24th during the WBC, Lee Yong Kyu was searched more than 1,950,000 times on portal sites. It’s exponentially more than Lee Min Ho‘s, whose drama ‘Boys Over Flowers‘ was ranked #1 in terms of ratings during the time.

He then added, “My search ranking used to be 235th place… But now, it’s probably gone up a lot,” hinting at his photo incident in a subtle manner. The studio was brought to laughter as Eunhyuk good-naturedly joked about it, and MC Shin Dong Yup could not help but tease as he feigned innocence as he asked him to explain, commenting, ”Just why did it go up?” causing everyone to chuckle again.

Wow...are they seriously bashing him for what he said? I think it is good he is joking around about it because people were way too uptight about the whole situation. And plus, it's not like anything super bad even happened from the scandal, at least to me knowledge. Eunhyuk provides jokes and comedy to this show so obviously he will joke about it, plus all he did was say his ranking went up, not that big a deal at all.

Istg everything is taken way too seriously nowadays.

its more so the fact that even though he was half naked in the photo, I.U is the only that had to apologize for the scandal. Its "funny" for him to make jokes because he doesn't have to suffer the same damage to his image and his gender the way I.U has. This could have really damaged her career and for him to make a joke like this and diminish the situation ESP when he had to bear little consequences and no responsibility is tacky and inconsiderate.

praying people read this comment. chances are they won't.

suju fans are in here showing their asses
shoopergirlzoey 16th-Jan-2013 03:52 am (UTC)
She had to apologize though because she posted the photo. The same way if he had posted the photo, he would apologize. And obviously there is some negativity towards him to, as seen in the above comments. And there really has been no damage to her career, isn't she coming back? I don't know anything about IU but I think career wise she is fine.
bolingi_aii 16th-Jan-2013 04:01 am (UTC)
The point of the scandal wasn't that she posted a picture, but the content. The fact that although she was fully clothed in bed with a half naked man caused the conflict. She received all the criticsm, the basic narrative in korea during the conflict was " IU is done". I remember my korean friend sending me the photo basically saying that her image was ruined bc most people were assuming that they had/are having sex. There was none of the same criticism given to eunhyuk even though he was the one half naked in the photo. The fact that IU had to apologize for causing him trouble when he choose to be half naked and consented the photo as well shows the unequal treatment. No matter if she comes back, this is a stain on her reputation, despite how her career is gonna be managed from now on, people will always remember this scandal it did damage to her image, and image is #1 to 1dols

I hope you continue to spread your wisdom across this post. Idec if this particular incident wasn't alluding to the photo scandal. Point is they've joked about this before and netizens still bashed IU and I think it's time he got a taste of what IU's had to go through.

The Oh Yeon Seo/Jang Woo mess has pretty much brought about the same kind of response. "Why is she still on tv/How dare she show her face on tv?" "Isn't she embarrassed?" Why is Jang Woo still on tv then? I'm not saying either one of them were at fault but I can't stand the double standards.

but wasn't he wearing a red shirt or something?
saw this on tumblr http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mdaymnMUgq1qz9daco1_1280.jpg

but I totally get what you mean

no responsibly? she uploaded the photo. besides he took more flack for it than she has in the broadcasts.
bolingi_aii 16th-Jan-2013 04:05 am (UTC)
the content was the issue, not the photo being uploaded. They were two consenting adults(couples) taking a photo together. The fact that it even blew up was because she was in pjs and he didnt have a shirt. He wasnt forced to take the photo and no one told him to take his shirt off. Both their..behavior? actions? clothing in the photo is what caused the scandal so they both have responsibility to "apologize" for being presumably sexually active adults. Her uploading it was clearing an accident, but the criticism that she takes is deeply rooted in sexism and the infantilization of young female idols.
luvey 16th-Jan-2013 04:47 am (UTC)
the content was the issue, but you cannot forget the context here as well. it blew up not just because he was in PJs and he didn't have a shirt, but because SK and her company put out this false image of her being pure. that is what it comes down to in reality for those deeply rooted sexism and infantilization of young female idols. that deeply rooteded sexism isn't Hyuk's fault. he didn't invent it. most the hate he is getting is from those who just see him as taking the "innocence" they though IU had portrayed (or hating him to hate him).

it was her and her companies choice to go into hiding and make that stupid statement. not hyuk's. he had go and deal with the public due to his contract obligations. he gets made fun of, feels uncomfortable because the MCs keep bringing it up.at some point something will be said, maybe, but it will have to be by IU.

i don't think it will EVER be accepted if he said anything because he is seen as the man who stole korea's little sister's innocence from the assumption of what happened before or after said photo.

one criticism over the other isn't more or less, just different, and yes it is based on the inherent sexism with korea entertainment industry.

although not popular opinion, but i don't think the upload was an accident
johnnyquest89 16th-Jan-2013 04:49 am (UTC)
he was half naked?
bolingi_aii 16th-Jan-2013 04:51 am (UTC)
yea he didnt have a shirt on
sashays27 16th-Jan-2013 05:55 am (UTC)
if u read netizens buzz. u will realise the Korean netizens are so angry not because IU is in a relationship. but for portraying her character as so innocent. they felt v cheated by what she always say in the variety shows. like why did she have to say she did not date before and had never kiss anyone before etc.
they are angry at her for these lies she made ( maybe she was forced by the company to say those stuff idk.. )

that's why Iu have so much more hate towards her in this situation.
imyoona 16th-Jan-2013 08:12 am (UTC)
the same people who are mad that she lied to them are the same people who would get mad if she was honest about her past relationships. Anyone who isn't affected by her relationship, because they have a life that doesn't revolve around idols, doesn't care that she lied and understand that she did it for her career and because it was understood that there are crazy fans who wouldn't be able to accept the truth.

imyoona 16th-Jan-2013 08:03 am (UTC)
you speak the truth tbh. Poor IU :(
rinn1e 16th-Jan-2013 08:24 am (UTC)

But with him starting to yap, IU is going to get a tiny bit more sympathizers. Clearly no one really wanted to remember the incident. He waited for everything to simmer down to starts bringing it up again. SME idols has foot in mouth syndrome like SME the company. The more they yap, the more idiotic they'll look.
adorkableninja 16th-Jan-2013 09:41 am (UTC)
I can't say much since I haven't watched the video (since some translated article isn't even exactly what actually happens in the show sometimes...the way journalist rephrases their sentences ~_~).
But I just want to say one thing. Eunhyuk does have to suffer the same damage to his image and it's not only for him, but the whole SJ.
I don't know if you do despise SJ as a whole or only a couple members, but the scandal does do some bad affect for Eunhyuk and the other members. Some members who are actually just fine have to experience the effect from the scandal just because they are in the same group of him. Everywhere they go, the scandal is brought in every article's comments. One of the possible reasons why IU is the one who's seen to receive more bad effect is because the public already didn't like SJ way before the scandal happened so hating on them isn't even a new thing to do LOL, while IU was so loved by them so the scandal really shocked them, especially with her image as the 'nation's little sister'.
Now, before you judge me wrong, I'd like to make it clear that even though I am ELF, I don't say this because I am okay that (if) Eunhyuk makes a joke about it. IMO that would be one of the stupidest things he ever did. He should have been more careful with what he says.
And I have always been a fan of IU and her music. I don't care if what people say is true or not about her because all I care is her music. I'll still buy her album if the songs are as fine as or even better than her 1집. IU writes her own songs and I appreciate her talent.
bolingi_aii 16th-Jan-2013 07:22 pm (UTC)
No he does not. Thats the whole point of the neitzens comments and most of the comments in here. Some of you elfs seem to be using Sj's (deserved) bad reputation as an excuse to dismiss what people are saying. Eunhyuk is male and he lives in Male dominated society that privileges men and does not control or constrict their bodies in the same way that it does with women. This is manifested in sexual situations. Eunhyuk will NOT and DOES NOT receive the same comments against his gender and sexual purity etc like I.U does. Most of the flack is put on her, although like I have stated clearly this is neither of their faults. They were both consenting adults who took a photo together that suggested some type of sexual intimacy and people ran wild with judgment. Most of that judgment fell on I.U. Even in here people are saying " she probably did it on purpose" " she's the one who uploaded the photo" " its //HER// mistake". The point is that it isnt a mistake at all. Eunhyuk is not to blame, no one in here is blaming him and none of the neitzens comments blame him. They are focusing on his flippant attitude because he is not getting the same flak as I.U so its tacky for him to be making light of a situation that could have ended her career. I understand what youre saying, I just wanted to clarify that due to sexism, they do not receive equal criticism....but that doesnt imply that Eunhyuk hasnt has ahjussis pissed at him.

MTE. I seriously don't know that it was about IU until I read the translations of netizen's comments.
