Sunye to halt Wonder Girls activites after her wedding

Sun will no longer be a member of the Wonder Girls after the upcoming press conference for her wedding.

The Wonder Girls leader will officially stop promoting with the group after her wedding, which will be held on January 26th at 10:30PM KST at Seoul’s Lotte Hotel. Sun is marrying Korean-Canadian James Park, who she met while they were both volunteering in Haiti.

JYP Entertainment announced, “With her wedding ahead on the 26th, Sun will be completing her official promotions after the press conference. The press conference will be held two hours before her wedding.” It was also added that Sun’s fiance will not be attending the conference.

In related news, the Wonder Girls are currently reported to be preparing for solo promotions.

SORRY GUYS!! Allkpop first wrote it as if she was leaving, then changed it later when I wasn't on my computer. :(

I do wish her all the best though ;~;
devilsatin 19th-Jan-2013 07:11 pm (UTC)
why are ppl acting shocked? they've been saying this same thing for the past 2 months when her wedding was first announced
itsprincess 19th-Jan-2013 07:16 pm (UTC)
before it got changed the article said that she was leaving the wonder girls not halting activities.
avex_girl 19th-Jan-2013 07:21 pm (UTC)
Heartbroken but more than anything her happiness is what matters. I feel lucky to have gotten to see her on stage with WG at least once.
odd_fish_stick 19th-Jan-2013 07:25 pm (UTC)
akp trolling for hits, nothing new
miyozari 19th-Jan-2013 07:30 pm (UTC)
Everyone take a chill pill.
All these comments are making me facepalm, akp's mistranslating (check the comments e.g.) again. Sunye is just halting her activities but that's not brand new information, they already announced that she'd take some time off after her wedding. Seriously, guys. This makes me side-eye your reading abilities and you should never rely on akp's translations.

Regardless of whether or not she's leaving now, she'll def be pregnant before the end of the year and will leave then. I'm the last person that thinks women should have to give up their jobs when they have kids but being an idol and having a bb do not mix lol. (But if that could be pulled off then miracles rly do happen)
frequency 19th-Jan-2013 07:56 pm (UTC)
halting, akp mistranslated as usual
sergel02 19th-Jan-2013 07:59 pm (UTC)
As a casual fan of them for years, this makes me sad. I know she's just halting activities, but I'm not counting on her being back =(
It's bittersweet.
nana_the_dwarf 19th-Jan-2013 08:34 pm (UTC)
Many tears will be shed.
Still wish her and her husband the best of the best.

Oh wait, re-read the whole thing. I thought she was leaving for good.
Feeling better. ^^

Id recommend leaving permanently. They aren't in the same field so it'll be a bitch finding time. A year or two isn't going to solidify a marriage.
annhh 19th-Jan-2013 08:45 pm (UTC)
I just don't understand why does it have to be either-or situation. as if she's now suddenly a stay at home mom or something.

but I'd maybe do the same if I was her
flumes 19th-Jan-2013 09:13 pm (UTC)
i mean i'm guessing it's for a bunch of different reasons. being newlywed and not in the same country (at least if you're that type of person) is difficult, maybe they want to start a family, a break from the industry, etc
flumes 19th-Jan-2013 09:12 pm (UTC)
yea, we knew this. but ik that the original was a mistranslation etc

im glad shes taking time off it will be nice. hope she's happy.
laceandskin 19th-Jan-2013 09:19 pm (UTC)
I doubt that she'll still be part of the Wonder Girls for much longer tbh. Soon she'll have a baby and won't be able to live the hectic life of a k-pop idol anymore.
racquelle2005 19th-Jan-2013 10:16 pm (UTC)
I doubt she will be able to have a successful marriage with a full idol schedule. She hasnt left yet but she will soon.
stephantasm 19th-Jan-2013 10:21 pm (UTC)
they said she was taking a break while the rest of them did solo activities a while ago...
pivotandsway 19th-Jan-2013 10:57 pm (UTC)
lol as if she would ever leave for good. even Sunmi is considered inactive and she wasn't the leader or the main vocal or the foundation of the group. fucking akp
akaich0u 19th-Jan-2013 11:19 pm (UTC)
Calm down, everybody. In Kpop land everything turns over faster than you can blink, but in the real world (and arguably most successful music markets outside of Kpop), it's possible for one to take breaks. Which is exactly what Sunye's going to do. Only time will tell if this is a permanent leaving. WG is a group created for and around her. It is not, however, a group that is going to end with her.

WG has been doing things differently from everyone else for years. This too, is a step into new territory. I can be nothing but happy for Sunye, and excited for WG's subunit/individual activities.

It is not, however, a group that is going to end with her.
Exactly what I've been thinking.

I also agree on that part of WG doing things differently. I just wish her that the things turn out as positively for her as possible. I am not all too concerned about WG going down over this. They can work with subunits with WG, in a way they've explored that within the songs with Yoobin/Lim already. Sohee is so popular, she can go by with solo activities, and Yeeun has done solo activities too and released/wrote some own stuff. I can only embrace the variety of options and the final result of what WG will do while Sunye will once do something for herself and not look after everyone all the time.
xkeirafanx 20th-Jan-2013 12:02 am (UTC)
I am honestly just happy that she is happy. That's all.
k0dama 20th-Jan-2013 12:13 am (UTC)
Boooo why can't you do both.

Korea's sexist system wins again.
asth77 20th-Jan-2013 05:10 pm (UTC)
oh finally someone who gets it right.
muzegrey 20th-Jan-2013 12:33 am (UTC)
Honestly I wish that girls wouldn't just have a career until they get married and then suddenly drop out like a career is only just to get them to a man. Ugh.

I know she wants a family though. I guess she wants to have kids quickly too, but I hope she deals with moving to a new culture, having a new marriage, and dropping out of her former life and possible babies. Sounds like a lot of stresses at once! Good luck!
daisyazul 20th-Jan-2013 01:26 am (UTC)
awww I wish her the best
karatefeelings 20th-Jan-2013 01:27 am (UTC)
So incredibly happy for her marriage but like everyone else, I hope she doesn't eventually quit showbiz just because she's ~married~.
Although I do honestly think that WG has kinda decided to let loose in the wanting to take over America part and just living life which I think is so awesome of them except the misconception that they've become flops because of that sometimes makes me a bit upset. :/
They're really not in the same league as groups like SNSD, Kara and 2NE1 anymore and not because they're inferior but their priorities have changed.
akaich0u 20th-Jan-2013 02:42 am (UTC)
not because they're inferior but their priorities have changed.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
xxmiracle 20th-Jan-2013 02:39 am (UTC)
Well.. if this is the last of WG as a group..I'm glad it ended with sunye's marriage. and not like...DB5K
megamisama_ann 20th-Jan-2013 04:29 am (UTC)
Goodluck, baby *crying a river
ladida90 20th-Jan-2013 07:17 am (UTC)
Hang on I'm confused different sources saying different things. Is she halting her activities temporarily or is she leaving for good?
