I'm so strangely proud of f(x) for all those nominations. Get it, bbs!
gogoparty 29th-Jan-2013 10:38 am (UTC)
critics really didn't like nell's album and a lot of people (including nell fans) thought it wasn't as good as their other albums too.
personally I think it was good but not good enough to make top 5 on these award categories tbh

I always wonder why this can't be turned into huge event like Grammy? (I hate it how both MAMA and GDA try to claim that they are Korea's Grammy awards) I mean they still nominate some popular stars in addition to indie musicians, so with a mix of them, and some specifically invited to perform (non-nominated) famous non-idol singers/bands like Baek Ji-Young, Leessang, etc. they could still make a show with high TV ratings and at the same time give much needed visibility for indie artists.

crazykaiyi 29th-Jan-2013 10:20 am (UTC)
3rd Line Butterfly's Dreamtalk for album of the year please. Just perfection.
eAeon, Naul, 404, Primary and Glen Check's albums were great too.
song_jihyuk 29th-Jan-2013 10:22 am (UTC)
no 10cm? :(

MTE. Searching in vain...
askbask 29th-Jan-2013 10:28 am (UTC)
I've given these awards praise before, because they don't seem caught up in defining artistry on superficial grounds, they mix idols with other artists, and they ALWAYS nominate f(x), which is sweet,

but last year and this year I've started noticing they have a real problem with gender equality. There have been so many good female singer/songwriter albums the past two years that have not even received a nomination here, and some of the male-fronted alternative rock they do nominate is definitely not as good or unique.

gogoparty 29th-Jan-2013 10:45 am (UTC)
interesting take! I never thought about this that way. At least we know that 3rd Line Butterfly is going to win the best album award and at least they're fronted by Nam Sang Ah? ;w;

I'm curious to see what female singer/songwriters you were thinking of / male-fronted rock bands that are not as good!
lee_chikin 29th-Jan-2013 10:42 am (UTC)
Look at all this lack of idols (apart from f(x), sistar and g-dragon). Is Jay Park considered an idol?
I searched for "Cassette Schwarzenegger" because I liked the name and wow, I like them.
pon_pon_pink 29th-Jan-2013 03:16 pm (UTC)
lol i was going to google casette schwarzenegger cus that sounds so weird x'D
jongkeyisreal 29th-Jan-2013 10:52 am (UTC)
why no 10cm
asnindie 29th-Jan-2013 11:18 am (UTC)
The Electric Eels are just the best, their album was one my favourites of last year.

I can understand why Nell isn't here, I mean their album was alittle uneven if you compare it to 3rd Line Butterfly. But why no love for Galaxy Express, Yellow Monsters, JRabbit or Yoon Young Bae???

Critics really love F(x), they were really high on most year end charts last year.

I don't really get why f(x) is even here...

I hope Primary will win as many awards as possible. The album is fantastic.
mya13 29th-Jan-2013 11:53 pm (UTC)
i dont get it either...
uglypricetag 29th-Jan-2013 11:43 am (UTC)
idk why critics have such a hard-on for f(x). most of their songs are terrible and try-hard.

Cassette Schwarzenegger is an awesome name for a... band (?)

eAeon better fucking win. i find glencheck kinda basic oop
asnindie 29th-Jan-2013 11:56 am (UTC)
Glencheck are nice but yeah, I find them alittle basic at times.
chibi_rei 29th-Jan-2013 11:53 am (UTC)
Urban Zakapa ~ yes please! They're so good.

Song of the Year

3rd Line Butterfly – “헤어지는 날 바로 오늘” (nominated for modern rock song)
Kim Dae Joong - “300/30″ (nominated for rock song)
Busker Busker - “여수 밤바다” (nominated for pop song)
Psy - “Gangnam Style” (nominated for dance & electronic song)
G-Dragon - “One of a Kind” (nominated for best rap & hip hop song)

can it be assumed that these will be the winners for their respective categories?

anyway, happy for f(x)'s nominations. i really like jet and i'm glad it's nominated, too. also happy that gain's bloom is nominated for pop song of the year.
pumpkinskin 29th-Jan-2013 01:34 pm (UTC)

oppameansit 29th-Jan-2013 02:19 pm (UTC)
doesn't f(x) get nominations for the KMAs fairly regularly? i seem to remember them getting one for pinnochio too.
lennoxs 29th-Jan-2013 05:35 pm (UTC)
yeah they do, critics looove them
honeebs 29th-Jan-2013 03:58 pm (UTC)
This list is amazing.
Check out all those genres.
yay for Junggigo!!
antrea 29th-Jan-2013 04:39 pm (UTC)
Primary better win some awards, the music he produces is amazing
clayray3290 29th-Jan-2013 05:09 pm (UTC)
YOUNHA. And Park Junghyun!!

Also See-Through is my jam.

I need to get back up on my K-indie and K-rock. I haven't been paying enough attention lately.

My one gripe about this is just that personally, I don't like it when an artist is nominated more than once for the same category. Like f(x) twice for Best Dance & Electronic or Busker Busker twice for Pop Song of the year. I'd rather just have one representative song for an artist and then see another artist that deserves commendation.

me too actually. but that genre takes a bit more effort to keep up with. when i was younger and had more time on my hands i was always up to date with non-mainstream music. popular music is always right there though and does the work for me.

8jj6 29th-Jan-2013 05:20 pm (UTC)
Why so proud of f(x)? It's not like they were nominated for best dance performance but for the songs in which the members had given zero input in its creation. G-Dragon's nomination, on the other hand, deserves to be given praise to himself.
gogoparty 29th-Jan-2013 05:53 pm (UTC)
They SANG the songs, I'd say that's a lot of input into the creation lol

amina_yui 29th-Jan-2013 05:45 pm (UTC)
Yay f(x)! Electric Shock was a great album and a great song. I'm glad they're receiving recognition for it. It's their song and I honestly believe that while they didn't write it, they have ownership of the song.

Having input on songs doesn't only happen in the creation process, it can also be seen in the performance aspect.
