Cube Entertainment CEO Hong Seung Song Terminally ill and Near Death as he battles Lou Gehrig's Dise

The president of Cube Entertainment which houses 4minute, BEAST and many more popular idol groups, President Hong SeungSong (49) is revealed to be suffering from ALS disease (or also known as Lou Gehrig). A representative from Cube Entertainment spoke out regarding to such ‘rumors’, “Although (the president) is not feeling well now, he does not have those widely spread rumored diseases such as Lou Gehrig, Parkinson or Cancer,” they ‘clarified’.

However, after compiling testimonials from some long acquaintances of Hong president, it was a ‘fact’ that he did have Lou Gehrig disease. According to their testimonials, Hong president wasn’t feeling well early of last year, and was sent to a famous hospital. He was thought to have caught Lou Gehrig disease, but it was insignificant then. In the second half of the year, during their family concert in South America, Hong President who joined along went to America to confirm his diagnose of Lou Gehrig disease.

Close friends of Hong President expressed that he’s having some movement inconvenience and could only stay sit on the chair. The agency however, denied any allegations of such disease by saying, “He comes to work on time and moves as he works”. Reporters tried to talked to him on the phone for the past three days, but he refused to take in any. A representative hinted, “After receiving a confirmed diagnose in America, it’s true that he’s now resting” and, “A few of his close friends who have heard the news have came to comfort him”.

Hong President is an invincible legend who has been in the music industry for the last 20 years and had raised numbers of top stars. Started as part of a management team for singer Lee Yerin, he had worked with talented artists such as Park GiYoung, Lyn, Kim DongRyul and many more. He then worked hand in hand with Park JinYoung in establishing JYP Entertainment.

His life was continuously ’fearless everyday’ until he finally established Cube Entertainment and becomes a leader of K-POP. In 2011, in an autobiography that he wrote,”There won’t be any spotlight if you stop now”, it stated that he waited (fearlessly) and as he sacrifices for that, he is a ‘Master of Patience’ that would wait quietly for talented and passionate individuals.

We once met up with Hong President 2 years ago. During that time, not only did we interviewed him and another composer in the Cube Entertainment building, he also personally escorted reporters till the parking lot. He did not say much and his pale face was kept smiling even when reporters turned around and leave. This short testimonial was recently passed to me by an affiliate in the circle. He said, “The management system differs a lot now” and, “He’s that rare type of manager that treats people with warmth”.

Hong President who has explained a new K-POP strategies through passion, and emancipates warmth to those others, we hope to see his ‘fearless’ look in the near future soon.

For those of you who don't know what ALS/Lou Gehrig's is It's a disease that affects nerve cells and is characterized by a rapidly progressive weakness, it keeps progressing until it results to death. The progression of the disease can only be slowed down with medication, but there is currently no cure for it. The median survival from the time of diagnosis is three to five years. There is no cure.

I didn't think it was something you caught.
missnothings 31st-Jan-2013 08:30 pm (UTC)
Yeah that bugs me. ALS is a genetic disease. It's not like catching the flu.
frootums 31st-Jan-2013 09:33 pm (UTC)
It is still possible to be diagnosed with it despite no history of it within your family but your icon is so hot that I'm distracted while typing this.
missnothings 31st-Jan-2013 10:49 pm (UTC)
Lol. thanks, I thought it was just a genetic thing. Oop.

And sorry, N, has the habit of doing that. XD
ashiva 31st-Jan-2013 09:42 pm (UTC)
Actually only small part of the cases are genetic. Researchers don't in fact know what really 'causes it. But Prions seem to be one factor in it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amyotrophic_lateral_sclerosis#Cause

it can't handle this. This is too sad D:

This is just awful. ALS is probably one of the worst diseases to have, as you maintain your intelligence and mind, but your body deteriorates around you. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be. My grandmother passed away this year after a long 20+ year battle with Parkinson's Disease, and I just remember how frustrated and upset she would get sometimes that she couldn't say what she wanted to say, and that she couldn't move how she wanted to. The last few years she was confined completely to a bed. It's just heartbreaking.

From what I understand the deterioration with ALS happens a lot quicker than Parkinson's and other diseases like it.

hellodee16 31st-Jan-2013 08:33 pm (UTC)
aww sorry about your grandmother.
missnothings 31st-Jan-2013 08:54 pm (UTC)
thank you. we're just happy she's not suffering any more and is dancing up in heaven with my grandpa. :)
kazu_kumaguro 31st-Jan-2013 08:58 pm (UTC)
is it the same disease as the one liter of tears girl's (Aya?)?
missnothings 31st-Jan-2013 09:05 pm (UTC)
I think so, I haven't watched that drama, but I think it's the same disease.
devilsatin 31st-Jan-2013 09:06 pm (UTC)
That was spinocerebellar ataxia
edanz_castle 31st-Jan-2013 09:17 pm (UTC)
Oh my, how I can relate to your story because my grandmother too passed away right on New Years and she too suffered for Parkinson's Disease. And Basically as you described she went through the same things and it really wass heart breaking to watch a person go from lively and talkative to restricted from doing anything else. It was getting hard to understand her and she too would express her frustrations with that.

But this disease too is really something. I can only imagine what that CEO is going through and I pray for the best for him and his family.

:( It's just a bad situation all around. Painful for the patient, and takes such a toll on the caregivers.

Sometimes I take it out and turn it over, actually - the morbid question of whether it'd be worse to have one's body go first and be aware of it, or have one's body still function but one's mind deteriorate first? (I know the division between the two is never so clearcut, but.) /sigh
hellodee16 31st-Jan-2013 08:37 pm (UTC)
this is really unfortunate. :(
Cube seems like a great company so far, thanks to him.
asnindie 31st-Jan-2013 08:37 pm (UTC)
Oh that's so sad:(
asth77 31st-Jan-2013 08:41 pm (UTC)

Yes I hope that he'll get better but ppl hese days, smh.

this is sad to hear.
flumes 31st-Jan-2013 09:03 pm (UTC)
wow this is really horrible and he is so young...this is sad to hear. i hope his last couple of months/years aren't too difficult for him.
honeebs 31st-Jan-2013 09:06 pm (UTC)
not a cold
Hope his support system is strong and hope that he leans on them for help. Hope he is comfortable and at peace.
shineebambi 31st-Jan-2013 09:26 pm (UTC)
if he does have Lou Gerigs disease thats terrible and i hope his passing is as painless as it can be :( That being said the man clearly didnt want this to be public knowledge for one reason or another and it bothers the fuck out of me that a reporter went behind his back and made the article anyway give the man so peace and quiet and privacy
lb_x 31st-Jan-2013 09:34 pm (UTC)
This. A relative had ALS, and she chose to keep it a secret from certain family members right until the end. The rest of us who knew had to respect that, and it's disgusting that a reporter would try to undermine someone's privacy when they might be in a simliar situation. If he does have such a disease, he will speak about it when he wants, if he wants.
shineebambi 31st-Jan-2013 09:41 pm (UTC)
right not only is it a terrifying disease but it can be so humiliating for those going through it because it happens so quickly you generally have no time to adjust or transition into a state where you can accept your body betraying you, and to then have it displayed in the papers and having all these strangers know something so private about your life is just ugh
45s 31st-Jan-2013 11:05 pm (UTC)
This so much. Why would a reporter do this? It's no ones business but his and his family.
supplanter 31st-Jan-2013 11:53 pm (UTC)
Well, I assume Cube is a publicly traded company? The health of CEOs has an effect on the stock (see Jobs, Apple).
shineebambi 2nd-Feb-2013 02:51 am (UTC)
last i knew only yg and sme were publicly traded companies
frootums 31st-Jan-2013 09:34 pm (UTC)
Very sad :( ALS is such a scary disease.
gee 31st-Jan-2013 09:41 pm (UTC)
If he truly does have ALS my heart goes out to him and his family. It's such a terrifying disease :( It's a shame that so-called close acquaintances are spilling out details he seems to not want anyone to know.
ashiva 31st-Jan-2013 09:47 pm (UTC)
I'm judging reporters for writing this so hard 'cause this is super personal and should be only written with a permission from Hong himself.
chanqsun 31st-Jan-2013 11:02 pm (UTC)
thats so sad...

All the best to him and his family. </3

ALS is such a devastating disease for the patient and the family and friends around him. I wish them all the strength in the world to cope with it.
cast_no_shadow0 1st-Feb-2013 04:00 am (UTC)
This is very sad. What a terrible thing to go through. I always got the impression that he was the kindest of all the company heads. He was always very warm with the members on video and the excerpts from his book moved me. Cube seemed to a very open agency compared to the others, with the members' parents meeting regularly with the company to go over the their schedules, finances, well-being, etc. Not your typical idol agency the more you hear about how they're run. Still a business of course, but with a heart.

And to have it all made public against your will...
swhyeon1991 1st-Feb-2013 05:51 am (UTC)
Praying the best for him & his family.
lonelymoon 1st-Feb-2013 06:21 am (UTC)
Horrible disease :( I hope his end is somewhat peaceful.
chibiyunie 1st-Feb-2013 06:37 am (UTC)
I know someone who had ALS and eventually passes away, it is really a horrible disease. For the person I know, he was diagnosed with it and died 10 months after that already. The disease can go extremely fast.

I wish the best to his family and loved ones.
21banged 1st-Feb-2013 08:39 am (UTC)
That's terrible! I wouldn't wish for this to happen to anyone, I wonder what's going to happen to the company. The idols must be gutted :(

Hope he's able to leave in peace and around family and friends
xalter_egox 2nd-Feb-2013 01:55 am (UTC)
Noooooo :( He's built up such a good company and seems like a really good guy~ I hope he gets well :(
iksagor 2nd-Feb-2013 03:44 am (UTC)
