Purplay members get thrown under the bus, apparently responsible for choreo

With the release of their video teaser, fans overseas, especially those familiar with ‘America’s Best Dance Crew‘, immediately spotted the extreme similarities between the choreography of the rookie group Purplay and dance crew I.aM.mE; and even drew frustrated comments from the I.aM.mE members.

Unaware about the attention brewing overseas, their agency has sent out a new press release to domestic media, revealing that the members themselves have helped in the creation of the choreography of their debut song, “Love and Remember”.

Their agency stated, “The Purplay members directly participated in the rap making as well as the choreography creation of the ‘cobra dance’ and ‘puzzle piecing dance’, already displaying their talents. They have outstanding choreography and singing abilities even when compared to any of the existing girl groups. They will rise to be a girl group to look out for in the first half of this year.”

They also added, “Purplay is a group that seems as if they’ll explode with their powerful dance, refreshing vocals, and emotional rap whenever you press the ‘play’ button.”

The group will be unveiling “Love and Remember” on the 7th.

elementalranger 7th-Feb-2013 04:07 am (UTC)
lbr tho, no one in korea probably even cares about this. they'll probably flop just cause they're from some nobody company
b1gay4 8th-Feb-2013 12:45 am (UTC)
and they all got the exact same PS jobs
u_niverse 7th-Feb-2013 03:10 am (UTC)
Probably the management's way to gain publicity. It sort of works
scarletapples 7th-Feb-2013 03:12 am (UTC)

damn son, how dumb can you be?
tiggie0307 7th-Feb-2013 03:20 am (UTC)
okay so they should fire their PR guy, asked the girls how they 'came up' with the dance and took the proper measures to ensure no harm would be done.
aleexnews 7th-Feb-2013 03:21 am (UTC)
lol that sux. they deserve to get in trouble for stealing shit and t rying to pass it off as their own though
921227 7th-Feb-2013 03:34 am (UTC)
Wow, if they did have a hand in creating the choreo (and not just their company saying so) that's messed up in them trying to pass it off/not crediting it. But, really, Korea has no shame in ripping off other people- it's why you can find 800 different online sites selling unsubtle designer knock offs (not to mention the countless ones that take art from the internet and use it as designs)
iznanassi 7th-Feb-2013 03:35 am (UTC)
There are idol groups that have members (Kahi, Hoya) that choreograph on their own...why is it unbelievable that they did indeed?

this is just dumb
pivotandsway 7th-Feb-2013 05:59 am (UTC)
hasn't Kahi stolen choreo before
jaerotic 7th-Feb-2013 06:45 am (UTC)
i remember that
iznanassi 7th-Feb-2013 09:33 pm (UTC)
probably, I'm just saying it doesn't mean they aren't responsible

Happens often enough even when members are talented and haven't done anything morally questionable (that anyone knows of), though.... :\
konichiwacobra 7th-Feb-2013 04:00 am (UTC)
ah well it was a nice try. goodbye purplay

So Brandon from the group posted.
They not only stole the basic moves at the marking point, he says all of the moves are theirs from the start of the show. The whole video is filmed with stolen moves.
eishastan 7th-Feb-2013 04:11 am (UTC)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Everything their agency stated is embarrassing.
luvey 7th-Feb-2013 04:12 am (UTC)
the agency statement really comes across as them (the agency) thumbing their nose at the thought of the girls stealing choreography by siting the supposed talent they have.
lalaland_xx 7th-Feb-2013 04:14 am (UTC)
Welp I take my comment back...

Still what kind of company is this lol
toshi830 7th-Feb-2013 04:17 am (UTC)
Agency please, if I wanted to be lied to I'd ask my friends to tell me I was a 7 foot tall basketball player.
xdark_symmetryx 7th-Feb-2013 04:44 am (UTC)
Lol okay. They pretty much dug themselves a hole. Their rip of the choreo was so obvious -_-
waterpulse 7th-Feb-2013 05:13 am (UTC)
Lol right like any group has that amount of control over their choreography. I feel bad for the girls but this flop agency should fail on principle.
lettace 7th-Feb-2013 05:14 am (UTC)
Well damn.
I know more kids are looking to become idols and that there are THOUSANDS of trainees... but this means that the job market is a bit more free? 'Cause if I were attending school over there like I am here, I might actually be happy when I graduate lol
vicinity_love 7th-Feb-2013 05:35 am (UTC)

LOOOOL i was thinking during the first post what if it was the girls who choreographed it and they were the ones who stole the routine.
wow crazee.
iksagor 7th-Feb-2013 09:01 am (UTC)
Yowza. They could have just uploaded videos of them doing the routine on a YT channel or something and credit them, and made something else for their debut if they knew where they got it from... lol.
ohaimanabu 7th-Feb-2013 02:32 pm (UTC)
mjspice 7th-Feb-2013 02:45 pm (UTC)
LOL No wonder it was stolen & bad at the same time. They THEMSELVES choreographed it. XPPPP
xzombiexzombiex 7th-Feb-2013 03:24 pm (UTC)
lol bye
hellodee16 7th-Feb-2013 06:07 pm (UTC)
they need to hurry up and give credit where it's due
did they forget about the international audience?
did they really think they wouldn't be caught?
lol ridic. if they flopped, I wouldn't feel bad tbh.
supplanter 7th-Feb-2013 09:49 pm (UTC)
lulz.

I don't know if it's obnoxious to ask or not, but...

In korean/korea, is whatever the word they are using that is being translated as "choreographed" (or even if it's the english loanword) understood generally as something more than "decided that this was how the choreography was going to be"? Like, is it universally understood that there is a greater element of creative responsibility there?

(Similarly, how exactly is YYJ credited for IGAB? Does it really say he composed it, or does it just say he produced it, or does it list him as one of various composers? Seeing as SM bought the song and he only tweaked it a bit for SNSD. Is that a translation error, or is it some kind of ambiguity in the korean lexicon? Or in this case, is it the practice in the recording industry if you paid ALL THE MONEY or whatever for a song, you get to take the credit if you want? >.>;;;)
