PSY to Campaign for Manila Mayoral Candidate?

Korean rapper Psy to join Erap on campaign trail in March?
By Edwin P. Sallan, InterAksyon.com · Wednesday, February 13, 2013 · 8:56 am

Amid reports that former president and now Manila mayoralty bet Joseph Estrada plans to use Psy’s monster hit “Gangnam Style” in his campaign sorties, the promoter of the Korean superstar’s post-Valentine concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena mentioned something that thickened the plot.

At the press conference for Psy’s February 16 show Tuesday, the topic eventually shifted to the extent of Psy’s stay here after his concert. That’s Ntertainment’s Joed Serrano said that because of the rapper’s busy schedule, he is scheduled to leave the following day.

However, Serrano added that there’s a chance the K-Pop phenomenon may be back here as early as March.

And for what purpose? “Para sa mga mae-Erap*,” Serrano casually volunteered.

Para sa mga mahihirap (For the poor people),” he later corrected himself, implying that Psy may do a show for the masses who could not afford to buy the pricey tickets for the February 16 show. The promoter did not elaborate.

“Erap Para Sa Mahirap” (Erap for the Poor) was the famous campaign slogan that catapulted Estrada to the presidency back in 1998.

Estrada, who rose to the Presidency in 1998 but was ousted from power three years later, is running for mayor in Manila against incumbent Alfredo Lim.

Translator's Note: "Mae-Erap" is a play on the word "mahihirap" (the poor people), inserting the name of Joseph "Erap" Estrada, known for his popularity with the poor.

I feel sorry for Manila. Thank God I live in a city where I don't have to choose between the two of them.

All I can say about this is

Can Erap, Mayor Lim, and Gangnam Style all disappear from the face of the Earth?!

I'm LOL-ing at the fact Mayor Lim starts his tweets with "O". That's so bad-ass.
oxygenlove 16th-Feb-2013 06:39 am (UTC)
I'm not from the city, though my uni is in Manila, but his tweets are just hilar I followed him on Twitter haha :D

Especially when he starts giving out love advices. Or when he replies to followers in general. It's obvious when it's him tweeting or when it's just someone in his PR team.

One tweeter asked him to tweet in Chinese, and all Lim said was:

"O, kung hei fat choi. Medyo late na"

I gagged!

I'm gonna follow him on Twitter, but I'm still thankful I won't have to vote for him.

Haha, this sounds ridiculous.

Is Erap still kind of popular with people?? He just seems really creepy to me and I remember that it was a mess when he was kicked out of presidency.
empressmaruja 16th-Feb-2013 10:38 am (UTC)
The fact that Erap was second in the last presidential elections, he still has the hold among the poor and older voters.

It's the younger, educated ones who do not bother to vote out of cynicism are the reason why Erap and his kind remain elected.
denzy14 16th-Feb-2013 03:36 pm (UTC)
THIS. and unfortunately these are the ones who complain when in the first place they did not go out and vote.

IMHO, Erap as second last presidential election was ridiculous to the point of disgust.

OMG this is so true. I judge the hell out of people who don't vote because "we'll all end up with corrupt government officials anyway"

I mean seriously

We won't be having a clownfest of congressmen and senators who come up with fucking weird and intrusive cybercrime bills and anti- ~piracy~ bills right now if only everyone voted.

Okay, I guess we still will, but the clownfest will probably be reduced to a more entertaining than annoying level. UGH /feelings

I have more anger for the apathetic than the stupid.

3 mos before the election, and I still have no idea who to vote for. How much Erap's party are willing to pay for the song anw? Just this week, MCA said that politicians are not allowed to use PSY's song in the campaigns, so what do u think happened?

And Champion would have been a better campaign song, tbh. :D
