SuPearls disbands, YG Entertainment nullifies contracts

It’s been revealed that YG Entertainment‘s new girl group SuPearls have disbanded.

YG Entertainment stated, “We’ve decided to nullify the contracts of Lee Michelle, Lee Jung Mi, and Lee Seung Joo without any conditions“. Out of the girls who were supposed to debut under the highly anticipated girl group, only Lee Hi will be staying in the company to continue her solo career.

The label added, “Even though it’s disappointing, they decided that they should break up for the benefit of each other, so we have decided on this unavoidable decision.” Not only so, but YG Entertainment is currently busy with their upcoming girl group, as well as the comebacks for 2NE1, G-Dragon, and Kang Seung Yoon. Lee Hi will also release her solo album next month.

i always think nega network is a shitty company but then i read stuff like this and realize yg is even worse...
virgo288 18th-Feb-2013 07:16 pm (UTC)
Nega houses BEG and Lunafly right? What shady thing/s have they been up to? I've never heard anything negative from them yet so I'm just wondering.
eccentricvibe 18th-Feb-2013 05:51 pm (UTC)
I feel bad for them. Even if they did debut YG probably wouldn't have promoted them properly.
konichiwacobra 18th-Feb-2013 05:51 pm (UTC)
well that's disappointing
the_erotomanic 18th-Feb-2013 05:52 pm (UTC)

sandritablue 18th-Feb-2013 05:52 pm (UTC)

peachie_ego OMG! MICHELLE! *crying*18th-Feb-2013 05:55 pm (UTC)

I definitely believe/agree with the person on akp who said that SuPearls was a back up plan group just in case Lee Hi flopped She's gonna flop like Gummy in the end because he can't manage any of his solo artists for shit.

It's pretty shitty of YG to do this 1.2 years after the show ended, when they had offers lining up from other companies that might have given them a better chance to debut together.

what companies do you think they will go to? do you think they will stay together as a group or go their separate ways? I was looking forward to Michelle's debut.
uledy 18th-Feb-2013 06:17 pm (UTC)
Michelle is finished. I don't see anyone picking her up. YG was her best chance.
lee_chikin 18th-Feb-2013 05:59 pm (UTC)
they decided that they should break up for the benefit of each other

the girls have understood that the company was going to fuck them over and run the hell away.
45s 19th-Feb-2013 12:03 am (UTC)
This. You saw it coming with the Michelle thing. Girl wised up real quick
uledy 18th-Feb-2013 06:15 pm (UTC)
Not only so, but YG Entertainment is currently busy with their upcoming girl group

Wait, what? Confusing sentence. Is there another upcoming girl group besides SuPearls?
miwa201 18th-Feb-2013 06:20 pm (UTC)
There's the no plastic surgery girl group with the girl who was in GD's That XX music video.
miwa201 18th-Feb-2013 06:21 pm (UTC)
jfc this is horrible. I feel so bad for the girls, especially Michelle. I hope she finds another place, maybe Jungle Ent and be like Jungin?
mizzyoung 18th-Feb-2013 08:14 pm (UTC)
OMG Jungle Ent! I'm with this idea
racquelle2005 18th-Feb-2013 06:25 pm (UTC)
I find it hilarious that everyone neglects the fact that the girls might have actually wanted to go separate ways...
eccentricvibe 18th-Feb-2013 06:28 pm (UTC)
I was thinking that could possibly be the case too. Or maybe the girls were having issues with the company.
hadashi_no_eden 18th-Feb-2013 06:29 pm (UTC)
They probably wanted to break up (if that's is true) because they knew they'd never debut as a group.

A Korean-English translator posted this on Twitter earlier today:

YGE announced it would take quite a while before SuPearls would be able to debut w/ YGE, so instead of wasting more time, they'll let go. YGE, "Like our former ballad group, BIG MAMA, we wanted to make SuPearls the second version of them. But in order to do that it would take years of training before they'd able to debut. To lessen that burden, we decided to terminate their contracts." It was decided that it was too much for YGE to debut SuPearls with Kang Seungyoon's debut preparations along w/ the new boy & girl groups.
YGE, "(The termination) Has nothing to do with any problems within the members/company, nor were the girls' talents insufficient. In fact, no matter where the girls decide to go next, we are hoping to support them in any way possible to help them out."

No link to the article they translated that from though.

I actually hope this isn't real because that is an infuriating crock of shit. If they can let Lee-Hi debut, who is sorely lacking in stage presence and while she does have a good voice, does not have as good of a voice and natural talent as Lee Michell, and Dara, as much as she is a sweetheart and I love her personality to death, she doesn't hold a candle to any of these girls either, and not to mention those sorry ass teasers they've released so far for the group they've been "teasing" for over a year now. They could've given these girls a shot.

Also, if he felt he couldn't debut them as a group, why did he have to terminate all of their contracts individually. He really didn't see enough to at least keep one on board? Then again, if this is true, I don't think I'd want to be with a company that would do something like this either.

Something in the milk ain't clean.

wow. i dont even like YG ent or any of the YG artists, but this is pretty sad :/
ashiva 18th-Feb-2013 06:43 pm (UTC)
They should have done this already earlier as the group lost face of the group (Lee Hi) for her solo career. (Lee Michelle got continuously least votes from public in kpop star and got as far she got because votes from judges and as other members weren't that memorable either, so the group was kind of fucked after Lee Hi left it.)

Still kind of wished that YG would have debuted Lee Michelle as a solo star for international market. Oh well, maybe someone will sign her (though it's no way sure as she didn't get that good image among Korean public in kpop star).
toshi830 18th-Feb-2013 06:45 pm (UTC)
I want to say I'm surprised but I'm not, which really sucks
hurtmybones 18th-Feb-2013 06:51 pm (UTC)
as expected
hipployta 18th-Feb-2013 06:53 pm (UTC)
Not surprised but still F YOU YG!

The moment they started pushing Lee Hayi I knew SuPearls was over

Lee Michelle...girl this is the time to learn English and go to the international market
benihime99 18th-Feb-2013 06:54 pm (UTC)
It's not a surprise but I'm still pressed like a panini
nightfrost75 18th-Feb-2013 07:21 pm (UTC)
Unpopular opinion:
I don't think K-pop or at least the big companies really suit these reality star artists, so few have been successful. (Yes I know Busker busker and Oh lala but they were groups before their shows) YG/SM/JYP like to take young people and train them for years to fit their mold but with singing show contestants, they really have to go from nobodies to stars in less than a year.
What I'm trying to say is, I doubt this will be the last mess to come out of the K-pop star signings.
virgo288 18th-Feb-2013 07:26 pm (UTC)
Same with American entertainment tho imho, I mean aside from Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood we don't really hear from other American Idol winners anymore, not to mention all the America's Next Top Model girls lol.
virgo288 18th-Feb-2013 07:23 pm (UTC)
Shouldn't have hoarded them from the beginning then?
YGE should just take a seat and hire some real management who knows their shit to straighten out their company for a while instead of going with YG's every single whim.
