Go Hyun Jung leaves "Return" after conflict with production team

Go Hyun-jung is being removed from the TV series "Return" on SBS amid conflicts between the actress and the production team, her agency said Thursday.

IOK Co. said: "She has repeatedly had a difference of opinion with the production team, and the gap couldn't be narrowed despite continued efforts. ... We've decided after much discussion that it is hard to continue filming."

The agency emphasized that it is not her decision to leave the drama but that she was "notified by SBS" to drop out. "Rather than trying to determine whose fault it is, we think the person at the center of controversy should leave, taking into consideration that so many people are involved in the production. We sincerely apologize that she failed to fulfill her responsibility as a main cast and offer our apology to the production team and other actors," it said.

Late Wednesday, SBS said it was considering replacing Go with another actress because "the disagreement between the two sides is too big" and the production crew was having a hard time because of her "insincere attitude."

According to industry sources, she frequently argued with the producer and recently assaulted him.

The shooting was forced to stop when the actress abruptly left the set Monday after quarrels with the production team.

Premiered Jan. 17, the murder-mystery thriller is gaining popularity, with the viewership ratings recently hitting 15 percent. But rumors surfaced that Go openly expressed dissatisfaction over her smaller-than-expected lead role in the drama.

SBS said it will look for a replacement and modify the script in the coming weeks.

She has a reputation of being quite vocal about her opinion. When she was shooting "Queen Seondeok of Silla," she abruptly left the set in protest because MBC didn't allow her manager to enter the filming studio.

Is this the same drama that was flagged for a male character telling a female character she was merely a toilet for him?

Also I love how they are trying to make her seem like a petty actress when there was likely something serious happening to make her contemplate leaving a drama when it got popular. I've read the report of her not showing up or having an attitude but I don't believe them tbh. I know enough about the drama industry to know they will quickly turn someone into a diva for their benefit.

I know nothing about her, but I highly doubt she assaulted a PD due to disagreements. Also, why cast someone as a lead and give them a small role? That's bound to cause issues...

She is actually one of the most respected k-actresses. Her resume consist 2 of the highest rated dramas in the history of kdramas; Sandglass (streets in Korea basically empty when it was aired) and Eyes of Dawn. She also won the Daesang for Queen Seondeok despite being the 2nd female lead and a villain -- the ratings of QS dropped a little after her character was killed. She also brings in the ratings that is why for this drama to reach 15% is not actually a surprise. She is known for taking quality scripts in her career so I believe when they said she's being vocal in her opinion.

But I think the reason she was dropped is probably because the writer made her character to do something stupid or questionable which stray away from her initial character when the drama started. You know how kdramas made their character turn 180 degrees without any reasons and I think it probably pissed her off.

I wonder what the real reason is. And it nice to see that branding woman standing for herself as diva, difficult or crazy is universal trend /s.

From my limited korean I read that when she was in Queen Seondeok, she once buy a meal for a whole staff bcs the production team cant provide it. I believe she have a reason. And netizen seems to believe in her as well

oh wow

"Rather than trying to determine whose fault it is, we think the person at the center of controversy should leave"

i love how they can get away with that /sarcasm

so my translation for now is she is told thag she would get x amount of screen time, everyone else working towards x/2 amount of screen time for her, and when she asks why, she is told to out up with it, and she refuses to do so, starts to loudly complain... and the rest of the crew only hears the complaints.

[end of fanfic]

oh okay i read now that she didn't agree with the changes in the character.
i wonder what they forced her to do.

I knew it! I got the feelings that they made her character turn 180 degrees that is why she is mad with the changes. I would too tbh...

you read her mind. yeah, i totally agree, and i feel bad that they let things escalate like this instead of listening to her...
