snsd costumes for 2009: ~1 billion won

In 2009, approximately 1 billion won (USD 860,000) of expenses went towards SNSD's outfits on stage.

Not only did SNSD sweep the nation with their songs 'Gee' and 'Genie,' they were also the 'Soshi fashionistas' of the year.

SM Entertainment said "last year SNSD showed many different costumes for each performance of 'Gee' and 'Genie.' Changing the costume that often for nine members would have cost around a billion won."

By calculation, for every stage performance there are 9 costumes, and for 100 performances there are 900 costumes.
If each costume cost 500,000 won with 100 performances, that would come down to 450,000,000 won.
Last year SNSD performed around 200 times.

SNSD is back with 'Oh!' released at the end of January, with increasing popularity.

SNSD's new album is showing off fashion such as the cheerleader fashion as well as a romantic girlish look.
It seems that costume costs will be quite hefty for this album too.

I'm pretty sure they reuse costumes. they don't wear 100 different costume for 100 performances.

I know for a fact they reuse the costumes because there was a bunch of performances where Tayeon's shorts were unraveling lol. People were wondering why they couldn't buy her a new pair.

This price seems exaggerated but I wonder if this includes their other clothes that the stylists buy. I mean they wear louboutins and a lot of other high class designers.

Actually I just think the reporter is doing the wrong math.

They may also be including the salaries of however many codis/seamstresses/etc they have.

but taking into consideration the number of outfits, the number of members.. the number of hours it must have taken seamstresses to customize it to their sizes & the cost of the materials themselves, it's understandable.. we know mariah has about that much in just shoes ;P

I was just wondering this weekend what they do with all those clothes after a promotional period is over. You rarely see them recycle Gee outfits and what would they do with the Genie ones?

It's not that hard to believe. Just compare the quality of their clothing (fabric and craftsmanship wise) to other idols and you can see why it costs so much.

And there's freaking 9 of them! Of course it costs a lot. lol

Also Genie had the least amount of variety. I can only think of...maybe 20 different outfits? Gee had a billion (and they rarely re-used them, unlike Genie).

that's a lot of money. if they used a different costume for each perf, i didn't notice. really thought they re-use (specially on the genie performances) too.

Exaggeration again. I highly doubt this is true.

1) They didn't have 200 costumes. There was plenty of reusage and stuff.
2) It's unlikely all the costumes cost 400+USD like this calculation claims. Eg are you really trying to convince me the T-shirts and jeans for Gee cost that much?

i really liked their outfits for gee, but brightly colored jeans and tank tops should not cost 500,000 won :(

Well, if you read the article it's just Newsen estimating that it's around 1 billion won... I hope their outfits weren't that much though because they weren't cute at all.
