HoMin were banging tonight, but I don't know how much more of this I'm-touching-myself-because-I-can't-touch-you choreography I can take. It's occasionally try-hard awkward. Yunho taking off and throwing away his ring and Changmin trying to do the same with his during Monologue put ellipses in my mouth. When did they get married?

The back-up singers, dancers and stylists were kind of bad job, but, on the sunny side, Changmin killed almost all of his high notes, especially the one right after the added bridge, and turned them into gold. Yunho was like a self-hypnotised dancing queen with his controlled and beautiful moves. I like how the live version is a little different. It'd be great if they performed an a cappella or acoustic version in the near future.

Is anyone else as happy as fuck about poor Yunho once again shooting years of careful image-building to shit tonight?

THEY WERE OK WITH THE TOUCHING DURING KYHD, i don't understand this new shit.

yunho during intro looked like a mysterious enchanted forest elf.

i need the acoustic/a cappella version :(

just noticed your last sentence. mysterious enchanted forest elf is my favrit flavr so i vote yes.
hibohabu 18th-Mar-2011 05:10 pm (UTC)
…Did you just remind me of Harvest Moon?

Yunho looked like he didn't have a single Y chromosome in his body. Or maybe an aspiring entertainer who caught the eye of Lord Shim and was invited to perform in his court. That blouseshirt was le terrible. The stylists are seriously bringing the prince and pauper concept too fucking far, ha ha.
22by7 18th-Mar-2011 05:12 pm (UTC)
wait what is "harvest moon", i misread your comment as "killing moon" and now somebody must write cleverly disguised homin songfic inspired by the lyrics.

y are we all getting so essentialist tho. it's pretty hilarious because he keeps wanting to be ~manly, of course, but apart from the awful clothing they put on him he's fine. isn't he? sorry if i sound unnecessarily sad.
hibohabu 18th-Mar-2011 05:50 pm (UTC)
Oh, Harvest Moon is a series of farming simulation video game. There're elves who live in the forest and can help to look after your farm if you befriend them. I've never completed the game, though.

I had to look up 'essentialist' and still don't understand it or your comment too well, especially the part about him being fine. Yeah, you do sound a little sad, which makes me a little sad too. Was it something I wrote? I meant to say that I felt his overdramatic yet casual clothes didn't fit in with the rest of the programme, but instead of an elf I saw a womanish silhouette… Does that make more sense?
22by7 18th-Mar-2011 06:00 pm (UTC)
FARMING SIMULATION AND ELVES. that is either a fantastic game or a very, very dull one. i am tempted to try it.

"Yunho looked like he didn't have a single Y chromosome in his body" comes off as essentialist. i speak as one who loves his "womanish" silhouette too, but the humour of "yunho fails at being a man oh no" is a little offensive, and not the exact same thing as "yunho fails at living up to his own ideal of masculinity", which i think we all agree on. sorry, now someone will accuse me of being wanky, but i wanted to say this.

also, yes, i wish the stylists would actually kind of acknowledge that dbsk being who they are deserve at least more thoughtfulness in the wardrobe department.

The elves are cutesy hat-wearing people! Probably not the kind you had in mind. You can take a look at this. Harvest Moon is a lot of fun but also a little complicated because there're many things to do in a limited amount of time. I loved to harvest strawberries during winter.

Thanks for clearing that up. I don't think you're being wanky at all; if anything, I appreciate you politely sharing your thoughts on my choice of words. I wasn't putting Yunho down or implying he's inadequate as a man in any way, which as you said is offensive indeed. I was just very impressed by how skilfully he tamed the choreography and showed a different side of himself last night. I believe that, mentally, he's as manly as they come. Physically, however, he has so much masculine and feminine beauty that it's almost an injustice how often the former is played up at the expense of the latter.

When the opposite happens, it's a real treat for me as a fan. I've always thought of him as a complex and insecure person despite his preference for an aggressively confident image. I like to think that he becomes a little more comfortable with himself and a more engaging performer every time he drops the in-your-face-ness for subtle showmanship. Everybody on stage was going through the same moves, but he alone seemed to do it with extra grace and a slightly different feel. He made the dance his own, and I really enjoyed it.

Come to think of it, that could be why the stage seemed a little chaotic! He was probably on a different page.

ty for clarifying your thoughts. really agree with especially yr third paragraph. i wonder, in fact, if this isn't why a lot of people seem to dislike/be made uncomfortable by his dancing? on the one hand he is sometimes trying to perform an image of himself even he can't get on board with for too long, and on the other when he drops it... people seem to find it hilarious, and unless the actual choreo is silly i never understand how it's hilarious.

his dancing for the intro was beautiful and he looked beautiful in that strange shirt.

but it's also true that a lot of the time i'm waiting for him to dance to a style that'd do more justice to his build, there's also that. complex and insecure and androgynous yunho, wae so interesting.

do you remember the t tour choreo for "ride on", it's easier when you can contrast with junsu; i end up thinking he sometimes has the sensuality and self-absorption of a *(it's 4:30 am and i will probably regret typing this sentence in 5 hours' time), it's charming.

* let's go with 'person who retains surprising amounts of innocence for their day and age'.

The one aspect of Yunho's dancing that I usually can't get over is his facial expression because it's downright stiff and unnatural at times. Everything else is just art and emotion, though. I can never find it hilarious because he's always extremely serious and invested. I can't laugh at that kind of work ethic.

He definitely has enough androgyny to last him eight lifetimes. I can't help recognising and applauding the intense fluidity and seductiveness of his moves, even if finding him sexually attractive is simply beyond my means. He's too much of a role model and an industry standard (there must be a better way to phrase this, but I can't think of it) for that.

Ah, his bodywaving in 'Ride on' was winning material. He was unusually relaxed then, and I wish he could let himself go like this every time. It's still a mindfuck to me how Yunho can contain so much child-like good nature and have a shipload of space left over for unnerving sensuality. I like Junsu's dancing too—very clean and polished—but it isn't as passionate as his voice is.

I feel like I ought to apologise to the OP for going on so long about this topic, but discussing this with you has been very rewarding!
22by7 19th-Mar-2011 05:09 am (UTC)
the face, that must be the final mask, yes.

i think i sort of understand what you mean by 'role model' and 'industry standard'. it's hard to pornify one of the elders of the tribe, haha.

"It's still a mindfuck to me how Yunho can contain so much child-like good nature and have a shipload of space left over for unnerving sensuality"
THIS was the EXACT thing i was going to say, except i had a horrifying analogy based on my experience of watching barely-pubescent child performers dance to raunchy songs on talent shows. but there is general a lot of maturity and innocence sitting on yunho's shoulders and confusing us, yes.

ah i hope op doesn't mind, it has indeed been a lot of fun. i've had far too many dbsk-related thoughts lately and they were threatening to explode the confines of my skull.

IA about the oh-so-sexy part of choreography. My mom watched all performances of KYHD and Maximum with me (she was especially keen on watching the latter ones) but she said she didn't know if she'd be able to do the same during those promotions.

Is anyone else as happy as fuck about poor Yunho once again shooting years of careful image-building to shit tonight?

You were saying?

As always I'm in love with your comments <3

hibohabu 18th-Mar-2011 05:19 pm (UTC)
I wonder if he knows how the photo turned out…
thier_sess 18th-Mar-2011 05:26 pm (UTC)
While it'd be probably hilarious to know his reaction to it, I think he'd be better off not knowing.
But I wouldn't be surprised if they checked stuff like that. (Poor Yunho.)

oh dear god...

Okay I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought Yunho looked SO pretty here. And yes, I associated Yunho with pretty. XD
effervesunt 18th-Mar-2011 07:29 pm (UTC)
The background singers were just downright noisy most of the time, IMO. And they did a horrible harmonizing in the beginning. It was unnecessary.

I do approve of an acoustic/a'capella version! :D :D :D

I like how the live version is a little different.
I almost think I like this version more - it's cleaner and more classy with less synth and a classic R&B beat. The guitar in the beginning was awesome as hell.

and lol forever @ Yunho's shirt during the intro. You know he's an awesome dancer when not even that atrocious fashion catastrophe can distract me from his dancing.
