Leeteuk Interrupting Fanny And Taeyeon Was a "Misunderstanding"

Leeteuk
, member of popular idol group Super Junior, has been criticized by netizens for an incident that happened toward the end of the K-Pop concert in the United States.  Concert staff helps to shed some light on the misunderstanding.

At the end of the “MBC Korean Music Wave in Google” concert all the performers were asked to comeback out on stage to sing, “Arirang.”  When the song had ended, Leeteuk made the closing statement for the ceremony, “Those of us who speak different languages and have different appearances were able to unite as one tonight through music.”  Netizens were quick to acuse the Super Junior leader of stealing the attention away from the show’s emcees. The few unruly netizens felt it should have been the responsibility of Girls’ Genertaion’s Taeyeon and Tiffany to close out the show.

An official with MBC made a statement regarding the mishap, he explained, “My view of the situation is that the criticism stems from some misunderstanding of the goings on. Leeteuk was asked by the director of the concert to wrap-up the live show because he has a lot of experience as an emcee.”

The official continued, “It is completely absurd to think that Leeteuk had interrupted Tiffnay’s job as emcee. Leeteuk came on stage holding a microphone, which in itself signifies it was all planned well in advance.”

Leeteuk took to Twitter to comment on the situation, “After the ending song ‘Arirang’ was sung, I had been asked to close the concert by saying a few words. At this time I would like to express my sincerest apologies if the producer’s request of having me say the closing lines was in bad taste. If this is not the case, I am politely asking you to please not criticize me.”

hisjulliet 25th-May-2012 06:38 am (UTC)
except the lag, damn lag

and you're a mod right? Why does the source site have to be up for a post to go through. Soompi's not working right now, but it will eventually. Can you just let my post go through? Pretty please? <3
a_happy_twat 25th-May-2012 06:37 am (UTC)
it's not exactly what he did, but the manner in which he interrupted tiffany and taeyeon that pissed the hell out of people.
so yeah, still rude. :/

hisjulliet 25th-May-2012 06:40 am (UTC)
lol Leeteuk always brings the wank
nobodyelse_care 25th-May-2012 06:42 am (UTC)
Well, at least he realized his mistake and apologize. A lot better than remain quiet, I guess. I hope Tiffany & Taeyeon aren't too angry with him.
jamroc 25th-May-2012 07:06 am (UTC)
the real issue is him interrupting tiffany and i don't think he gets that

hisjulliet 25th-May-2012 06:47 am (UTC)
Yunho is judging too
sobaek 25th-May-2012 06:46 am (UTC)
Yeah Leeteuk talks to much blah blah blah.
Nothing warranted comments saying he should get shot when he enlists.
hisjulliet 25th-May-2012 06:48 am (UTC)
wow people are actually saying this?...
leeteuk 25th-May-2012 06:55 am (UTC)
lol
cagallisakura 25th-May-2012 06:58 am (UTC)
My opinion of this is that I don't mind that he made the closing speech. MBC told you to do it? Sure okay. Him not letting other people talk? That's for a different discussion. What grinds my gears is that he interrupted Tiffany. And he did, because no one was expecting him to suddenly start talking when Tiffany was clearly still speaking.
Please don't try to tell me he didn't interrupt her. If video evidence isn't good enough, lol... wow. And I think another big thing was the camera zooming in on Taeyeon's face. Like brilliant idea right there camera person!
stesabsea 25th-May-2012 07:06 am (UTC)
For all the shots of non-excited audience members, this kinda makes up for it. Gives me faith that the camera person somewhat knows what they are doing. Haha. (Except I would have liked to see Yunho's full reaction too.)
raviolikenshin 25th-May-2012 07:02 am (UTC)
whatever leeteuk was feeling himself at smtown and this concert
he got a really good response from both crowds, and got too big of a head obviously

i'm no leeteuk fan, but i'll just let this slide lol
plus i may or may not have cried watching him at the end of smtown don't judge me
unlickdbearwhlp 25th-May-2012 08:24 am (UTC)
He mos def was feelin' hisself! Even at the hotel. He was smiling and waving, all the time. Even when "fans" were doing dumb shit (watching him in the gym). Mebbe he's nice, but based on other comments...I suppose he's an attention whore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not a Leeteuk (or SuJu) fan either, but he seemed smart to me. He didn't let the hounding bring him down. I admire that, though I understand it the other way too.
jamroc 25th-May-2012 07:04 am (UTC)
fine, you were asked to close the show but don't talk over someone else, asshole.
the_lazy_one 25th-May-2012 07:05 am (UTC)
Ngl, I was at the show and didn't even notice. LOL As I look back at the stream that they posted up on YouTube, it really was done in bad taste and it's obvious by the way that Taeyeon reacted. However, I hate the overreaction that fans had over this. Reading people's hateful comments about him was pretty disgusting. I could never understand how people can wish for other people's death, especially of people that they don't even really know.

Either way, I'm glad he realized his mistake and apologized.
lazmy 25th-May-2012 07:06 am (UTC)
leeteuk was raised in a barn and has no manners
whaaaaaat
mimic 25th-May-2012 02:24 pm (UTC)
lmao wtf is that even.....
prismboy 25th-May-2012 07:11 am (UTC)
Yup, that really pissed me off tbh.
dorkiilove 25th-May-2012 07:21 am (UTC)
is it so hard to let other people talk/finish talking... SMH
same thing happened in the S.M press conference at anaheim

Didn't give others the chance to respond to group questions/kept on commenting on other peoples reponses...even though the question had no relation at all to him
cagallisakura 25th-May-2012 07:28 am (UTC)
like Jessica's baseball question right? Asks for a mic while she's talking, waits for her to finish, adds some pointless comment that the translator couldn't even be bothered with to translate lol
molly_hime 25th-May-2012 07:24 am (UTC)
What I think is funny about the whole thing is Sone making such a big deal of him cutting off a few words. Because if it had been the other way around and she had interrupted him and ELF threw a similar fit, they'd be pressed haters looking for excuses over a few words.
Also, it was unprofessional of Leeteuk to interrupt, but it was also unprofessional of Taeyeon to make her little bitch face.
simplyobessed 25th-May-2012 07:28 am (UTC)
I like this comment cause it's true. :)
shoopergirlzoey 25th-May-2012 07:25 am (UTC)
I personally think Tiffany and Taeyeon forgot he was closing the show which caused the interruption. He wouldn't must talk over like that on a big show like this. Its not his fault he was chosen to close the show, I think the girls forgot he was supposed to say his line or whatever and this whole mess happened. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case tbh considering how the course of MCing was throughout the night

martha_sal 25th-May-2012 07:31 am (UTC)
I doesn't seem to be the fact that he interrupted her that is horrible but the fact that it's Leeteuk who did it.
So what, it was a bit rude but it's silly to discuss it so much. It happened, whatever.

BREAKING NEWS: Super Junior's Leeteuk breathes air meant for SNSD's Taeyeon, netizens in full revolt

This is pretty much how I feel every time people start wank over him.
erbalurbal 25th-May-2012 07:32 am (UTC)
I got a good laugh out of this because Taeyeon's face was priceless. They clearly weren't expecting it because the camera man was all up in her face and not on him.
cottonowl 25th-May-2012 08:23 am (UTC)
That's what I thought too.
cee_90 25th-May-2012 07:33 am (UTC)
I side-eyed him for making another mistakes after another but eerrrgggghhh this fanwar is getting ridiculous...
and I'm still amazed how can this be HUUUUUGE problem when mbc gayo daejun 2011 were worse...there everybody was like interrupting everybody, lol. but no one was called rude for cutting in or making a face when it was broadcasted live and the whole nation can see. Sometimes I think this fanwar happen just because it's super junior member vs snsd member.

some kpop fans blowing things out of proportion, resulting in fanwars...not new at all.

"some kpop fans blowing things out of proportion, resulting in fanwars...not new at all."

Ikr. I think some fans just like to complain for the sake of complaining. turning something small and simple into something big and ridiculous..as always.
dysphoriia 25th-May-2012 07:33 am (UTC)
wasn't the main problem that he interrupted tiffany and not that he did the closing speech?

where's yawr apology!1!

mrstaemin 25th-May-2012 07:52 am (UTC)
Tbh I think it's bc it was LEETEUK who did it lol. Nobody would be mad if it's Yunho for example.
jaeji 25th-May-2012 08:17 am (UTC)
lol at people saying "y'all just mad cause it's teuk"... well duh. i think it just nicely builds on top of the obvious reasoning tbh.

people wouldn't be as angry if it was yunho for example because the fans know it's not in his nature to do it. never mind if you're not even a cassie, he's known to uphold a clean image instead of - let's be real here, okay? - teuk's super tainted one. yunho would be less rude about it and more apologetic if he ever went there, i believe.
cottonowl 25th-May-2012 08:25 am (UTC)
Lol at his apology. 'I'm sorry somebody made me do this' oh okay.
