can i just say i can't believe king 2 hearts had such low ratings smh you have a drama with compelling writing, fully-fleshed out characters and most important of all, an EQUAL relationship between the male and female lead and it never hit above 20% in ratings.

meanwhile shit like moon/sun and secret garden and bof with the weak writing and problematic treatment of women get national drama ratings. was korea butthurt that ha jiwon was actually kicking butt in k2h instead of crying every episode like in tsg?
anconeous 30th-May-2012 10:58 am (UTC)
King 2 Hearts is such an awesome drama that deserved higher ratings. However, it was up against Rooftop Prince and Equator Man, which were both really good dramas. That timeslot was just brutal. All 3 were good, popular dramas that had pretty much the same ratings across the board.

Facepalm forever at how popular BOF was at its peak. I loved it for the crack that it was but I can't even bring myself to watch it again.
uniqlos 30th-May-2012 11:48 am (UTC)
i'm just surprised tho, k2h had major a-list actors so i was expecting higher ratings.
annhh 30th-May-2012 11:25 am (UTC)
equal... I don't even know when was the last time I saw that~
uniqlos 30th-May-2012 11:53 am (UTC)
you should watch k2h, it has great relationships, not only romantic ones (the main leads and second leads) but there's a great bromance, mother-son, mother-daughter-in-law, brother-brother, brother-sister, father-daughter, father-son, mother-daughter, main lead-villain etc. and the villain is crazy batshit and hateful but so well-written like moriarty lol (in fact i feel like the writer watched sherlock because so many character traits match up).

Moon/sun was such a promising story especially for the first five episodes, and everything started going downhill after the adult characters appeared.
shunluv 30th-May-2012 12:09 pm (UTC)
all the drama in that time slot around that time is all with very good storyline and acting and it is very tough competition..
each of them have the no1 spot which i think is good in term of healthy competition.
for me i enjoy each drama and they all equally good and they all deserve good rating..
for me there is no real loser or winner with K2H, Rooftop and Equator Man because all is excellent production it just they have the bad timing to go against each other rather than against weaker plot drama :P
i usually dislike when only 1 drama is the clear winner from beginning and other drama don't even have a chance to compete..
dbil 30th-May-2012 12:15 pm (UTC)
I agree with your thoughts. However, k2h was in a rough time slot. King 2 Hearts was probably one of the best dramas, I've seen in awhile in regards to writing and character development.

After seeing the pairing of LSG/HJW, I wouldn't mind seeing them in a drama again. I still love my Han Hyo Joo and LSG pairing from Shining Inheritance. I couldn't finish MGIG because of Shin Min-ah, the whole drama had me disappointed throughout.

NEED MORE LSG/HJW! Better yet, what is the next drama Jo Jung Suk is in? I will watch it because he's now on my radar after k2h.
eirien84 30th-May-2012 12:36 pm (UTC)
I agree with some of your points, but I think K2H had its fair share of "problematic treatment of women". I for one was shocked, when the supposed "hero" decided to sacrifice an innocent woman just to prove a point to the villain, as he knew she was going to be killed by him. But, as I was informed when I voiced my distaste - she wasn´t innocent! She was a golddigger, so it´s totally okay! *hates the world*

uniqlos 31st-May-2012 01:47 am (UTC)
ooh, yeah, i forgot about that. it was pretty jarring for me to watch. i didn't like his having to sacrifice her like that but how he did it was part of what made him an interesting character. his ambiguos nature was what made him so interesting to me, he wasn't perfect like his brother, he was willing to play dirty because you have to, against a villain like bong-gu.

idk i guess it was one strike in my "treatment of women in korean dramas" meter which is relatively little compared to, say, what i gave to moon/sun (aka they struck out smh).
phililen3 30th-May-2012 12:38 pm (UTC)
Did you say EQUAL RELATIONSHIPS? I am there. Gone to watch...
shocko_o 30th-May-2012 02:16 pm (UTC)
this was what i've been thinking throughout the later half, it started out as the top spot. the ratings are lower because the viewers between the 3 shows were split quite well, that tells you ratings is not a solid indicator of quality, a lot of it is how viewers respond. heck, none of these dramas rose above 17% (i think) in ratings, when they could deserve more.

it certainly made watching the ratings every week a whole lot more meaningful to see who made it to the top.
the_lazy_one 30th-May-2012 05:11 pm (UTC)
THIS SFM. It's such a breath of fresh air compared to other dramas. One of the main reasons why I stopped watching Fashion King was exactly because of the way that Younggil treated Gayoung. So to have a drama like King 2 Hearts where you have the main couple have this equally caring relationship where they depend and trust on each other, it was amazing for me. LOL
lysblack 31st-May-2012 02:21 am (UTC)
ugh srsly, K2H deserved to kick their competitors ass so hard.
anconeous 30th-May-2012 11:00 am (UTC)
I'll probably check out "I Do, I Do" simply because I love Kim Sun-ah.
ari_meh 30th-May-2012 11:03 am (UTC)
super excited for the bridal mask because JOOWON <3 <3 :Q____, as well as ghost, because... well... SO JISUB <3 <3 :Q____ . two of my favourite korean men, right there :D
i do, i do sounds cute, i'll probably watch it too. plus, it has sunah & jangwoo, those qts :3

I think I'll check The Bridal Mask..

I love Kim Sun Ah, but I still on edge about Jang Woo..
And I don't like So Ji Sub works and I don't like Lee Yeon Hee (East of Eden is a mess)
liferule91 30th-May-2012 11:26 am (UTC)
Thank God "I Do, I Do" is on Viki cause I really find it difficult watching dramas outside of that website.

Watching Padam Padam @ epdrama was a mission last month.
ayumikoshiro 30th-May-2012 01:46 pm (UTC)
For all of Viki's flaws i still love watching dramas on Viki because of the community. Sometimes I get annoyed with comments but other times my dramas feel empty without them. Plus the fansubbing teams are so fast IDE.
lilipute 30th-May-2012 01:55 pm (UTC)
I'm watching Queen In-Hyun's Man on Dramacrazy and I'm constantly asking "Where the hell are the comments? why isn't anyone commenting? what's going on?"
and to think I used to hate that aspect of Viki -_-
ayumikoshiro 30th-May-2012 02:09 pm (UTC)
OMG Queen InHyun's Man so glad I waited to watch that I'm about to finish ep 11 + 12 now. It's so freakin good, I wouldn't have been able to wait for subs.
liferule91 30th-May-2012 02:12 pm (UTC)
Ive been putting off queen in hyuns cause its not on viki and i hate waiting for subs.

But viki has always allowed ppl to disable the comments up top, i just never had the heart to do it, since some comments were actually insightful/funny
liferule91 30th-May-2012 02:09 pm (UTC)
omg yes viki is my fav site for drama watching.

I hate watching the same ads 400X times, i hate some of the commentors and omg i just hate ads period but i love the fast subbing and that the video isn't broken down to a gazillion parts. Some of the comments are funnier than the drama sometimes too.

I just wish they would get more rights to other dramas =[
ayumikoshiro 31st-May-2012 02:06 pm (UTC)
I meant to say get ad-block plus and never see another viki add again. I sometime un ad-block sites if their adds aren't too annoying, but I can't have them interrupting my drama time. They have ad-block for chrome and Firefox now.
liferule91 1st-Jun-2012 03:37 am (UTC)
i have adblock for safari but it doesn't extend to ads embed into videos =[
anconeous 30th-May-2012 04:01 pm (UTC)
So true. I remember watching "Oh My Lady" in Viki and everyone spazzing over Siwon was just hilarious. Same with "My GF is a Gumiho" where every time No Minwoo gets screentime, spazzy comments explode. :)
lenra 30th-May-2012 02:01 pm (UTC)
wow i totally forgot about Bridal Mask but i liked the trailer so i'll try to watch.
starsinshapes 30th-May-2012 02:40 pm (UTC)
I'm down for anything involving So Ji Sub
quietreveries 30th-May-2012 02:44 pm (UTC)
man lee yeon hee's acting is so bad
bababerry 30th-May-2012 03:19 pm (UTC)
ia. its hard to watch her in dramas because its obvious she's "acting"
anconeous 30th-May-2012 04:03 pm (UTC)
She's really lucky she's pretty and people like her enough to cast her in all these projects.
allthingsgood 30th-May-2012 05:23 pm (UTC)
yeah and after all these years, she's just as bad as she was when she debuted. it makes noooooooo sense to me that she's as popular/cast as lead as often as she is :\
aleexnews 30th-May-2012 03:30 pm (UTC)
probably gonna watch SBS's drama with So Ji Sub even if i can't stand lee yeon hee, but its So Ji Sub!! And also Kim Sun Ah's drama looks funny but I hate both her hair and Jang Woo's hair, what a disaster.
ghost_whisper 30th-May-2012 05:51 pm (UTC)
I wish it wasn't a Crime drama that So Ji Sub is in. I'd LOVE to see a new drama with him, but crime dramas never manage to hold my attention... :(

Bridal Mask sounds intriguing. Like Iljimae but with a more modern time period. I could totally get into that.
x_tsurara_x 30th-May-2012 08:57 pm (UTC)
I do I do~
t_domination 30th-May-2012 09:31 pm (UTC)
all of them look pretty intriguing. gotta google about bridal's mask tho cause I didn't really understand the trailer lol
muzegrey 30th-May-2012 10:58 pm (UTC)
I'm watching A Gentleman's Dignity which is AWESOME so far. I'll probably watch Ghost but the rest look terribly boring.
hagar_tammaa 31st-May-2012 02:28 am (UTC)
AGD is my new fav
lysblack 31st-May-2012 02:20 am (UTC)
i'm team bridal mask!
mcrbrasil 3rd-Jun-2012 12:26 am (UTC)
I'm betting on Bridal Mask.
