Leeteuk reverses the game of sasaeng fans

Sasaeng fans are fans who are overly obsessed with their stars and will do anything to get close to them, such as stalking them by car, waiting for them at home, stealing their phones and even social security numbers.

With so many sasaeg fans, stars get stressed, but Super Junior’s Leeteuk decided to play around with them and switch the game around.

During the July 3 press conference for the release of Super Junior’s sixth album Sexy, Free & Single, Leeteuk said, “A couple of days ago on my birthday, I noticed that sasaeng fans were chasing me in taxis, so I decided to follow after them instead.

“A couple of days ago when I went to see director Jang Jin about tvN’s Saturday Night Live Korea, I noticed that five cabs were chasing after me. Out of curiosity, I decided to squeeze in between them.

The singer said, “Then one of the taxi drivers stopped and got out, yelling, ‘What are you doing?’ It was actually kind of fun (now that the tables were turned).”

Although sasaeng fans do disrupt the peaceful life of a star, Leeteuk still showed his gratitude towards them.

“A while before, we used to fight and I would tell them not to follow me anymore, but now, I’m even thankful for that. I even wrote on my Twitter, ‘If you’re going to follow me, have many people follow.’”

He said, “If I see them now, I even give them my autograph. When else would they follow? I actually thankful that they do. I hope they continue follow while in their 40’s and 50’s.”

Leeteuk also talked about his upcoming military enlistment and promised to resume as a Super Junior member when he fulfills his army duties.

Super Junior will make its stage comeback on July 5 on Mnet’s M Countdown.

agreed

‘If you’re going to follow me, have many people follow.’

I'm sorry, but imo, this is a VERY irresponsible thing for him to say/do...I like that he turns the tables on the stalkers and all, but encouraging them to have "many people" following him around...haven't there been instances where the stalkers caused accidents??

maybe I'm wrong, but I could've sworn I read a couple different things where the stars and/or others have been hurt because of those "fans"...

I see he gets a kick out of it, no surprise since he's pretty much a huge attention whore. But it could lead to an accident, he should think about his own safety...
anconeous 4th-Jul-2012 07:30 am (UTC)
Agree. Teuk conveniently forgot how he and Heechul have had minor car crashes twice last year because of fans following them around too closely.
sobaek 4th-Jul-2012 07:25 am (UTC)
UM. No, Leeteuk, don't encourage them to follow you. Haven't they caused car accidents in the past? I thought Kyuhyun's little crash in.....idek 2010, was caused by stalker fans in their taxis.

Like...play games with them and turn the tables, sure, but don't egg them on. Saying shit like this publicly doesn't make you look better, it makes you look irresponsible and dumb as fuck.
hisjulliet 4th-Jul-2012 07:26 am (UTC)
and here I thought he couldn't encourage them even more
hipployta 4th-Jul-2012 07:26 am (UTC)
Obviously since he is leaving he is going into full troll mode...Teukie you may be thinking, "F It" but your members are still going to have to deal with them.

I wonder if they still follow Heechul after showing up at his job those first few days
anconeous 4th-Jul-2012 07:32 am (UTC)
Heechul still has fans following him around, actually. Fans are very well informed where and when Heechul goes at night when he's not busy playing LOL in his dorm.
benihime99 4th-Jul-2012 07:27 am (UTC)
Why would someone want to be followed by stalkers?
Was he high or something?
tha_x 4th-Jul-2012 09:47 am (UTC)
just in case someone tries to murder him, you know
___varying 4th-Jul-2012 07:32 am (UTC)
Urgh don't encourage them. It's one thing not to want to lose fans, it's another to publicly endorse this sort of behaviour/culture (something which also has an impact on other celebrities ><).
anconeous 4th-Jul-2012 07:34 am (UTC)
Teuk, just because you're leaving soon doesn't mean you can go encourage the sasaengs. Your groupmates will be suffering the consequences of your encouragement for the next two years.
cagallisakura 4th-Jul-2012 07:39 am (UTC)
Lol everyone seems to agree that Leeteuk just majorly screwed his own members and just about any other idol completely over. Is it really wank if what we're saying is true? :/

He just really needs to shut his mouth and get into the army before one of his members or anyone else gets seriously injured because of his trolling.
peachypie21 4th-Jul-2012 07:40 am (UTC)
haha i remember following him in a taxi. He kept stopping and yelling at the driver xP
lasthenia 4th-Jul-2012 09:12 am (UTC)
xD !
devilsatin 4th-Jul-2012 07:51 am (UTC)
all i'm getting from this is an aging idol that realizes his fanbase is rapidly dwindling and will stop at nothing to hold on to the last few hardcore fans he has

the_erotomanic 4th-Jul-2012 07:59 am (UTC)
i don't know the why sasaengs do what they do, but i wonder if some of them will stop following him now that he has acknowledge them and reacting (somewhat) positively to them.

anyway, it's still not a good decision to encourage young fans to follow their idols around. i hope he realizes that other than stalking, there are crimes involved in being a sasaeng.

and yes, his statements reek of desperation. i hope the other members don't say anything else about this topic.
lazmy 4th-Jul-2012 08:08 am (UTC)
ok HOW do you pronounce sasaeng because i say it like say-sahng
a_happy_twat 4th-Jul-2012 08:14 am (UTC)
it's sah-seng.
a_happy_twat 4th-Jul-2012 08:15 am (UTC)
...yeah, not really a good idea to encourage their craziness but ok.
erbalurbal 4th-Jul-2012 08:22 am (UTC)
His thirst for attention is really creepy because he seems to have no limits or boundaries. What part of this sounds like a good idea to a sane person?
a_cheshire_grin 4th-Jul-2012 08:28 am (UTC)
It's Leeteuk, so I'm really not surprised by this! -.-''
angela_derp_otp 4th-Jul-2012 08:33 am (UTC)
WOW.

Good job encouraging that behavior.
bauci 4th-Jul-2012 08:44 am (UTC)
I thought he was supposed to enlist ages ago...
jumpsama 4th-Jul-2012 12:43 pm (UTC)
I was wondering what he's doing in their latest mv...
umbrella_smile 4th-Jul-2012 08:49 am (UTC)
oh my god just shut the fuck up
asth77 4th-Jul-2012 08:51 am (UTC)
"we used to fight"
What does he mean by that?

And lol @ ppl criticizing him, it's his life. If he likes it then cool for him.

Lol anyway I'm 80 % sure some stars sleep with them anyway so It's not surprising that at least one of them says he likes them...
I even wonder if some ppl are hypocrite enough to sleep with them and complain at the same time.
kingalexarnold 4th-Jul-2012 10:55 am (UTC)
anyway I'm 80 % sure some stars sleep with them anyway

what? omg why do you think that?
unlickdbearwhlp 4th-Jul-2012 08:53 am (UTC)
I saw a glimpse of this in LA. He seemed to accept his situation, which is that the fans aren't going anywhere, and had fun with it. He smiled and waved at every camera/phone that was in his face. Some fans even watched him in the hotel gym, and he waved while on the treadmill (secondhand account; I didn't dare, or care). I'm not saying he loves it, but he doesn't let it bring him down all the time. He'd never enjoy a moment if he did. Pleas to be left alone fall on deaf ears. Until something is done, you gotta live your life without worry. Fake it 'til you make it.

That was LA fans, though, not sasaengs. I'm not sure if people would compare? I can't judge. All I know is that I wouldn't be encouraging the kind of behavior he deals with back home.

Sasaengs are a whole different level compared to LA fans.
iznanassi 4th-Jul-2012 09:06 am (UTC)
Idols should focus on making sure the sasaengs stay safe with this, if they don't want to acknowledge it. At the very least because the very idols they love could be seriously injured because of them, and that's just not acceptable and immature.
akari_youko 4th-Jul-2012 09:08 am (UTC)
NGL I kinda thought it was funny idea to turn the tables and follow them around, but flat out ENCOURAGING their behavior and basically telling them to follow you in hoards? How does that sound like a remotely good idea, dude? And you're the damn leader of your group, you think sasaengs won't consider that when they go following the rest of their oppas who happen to be your groupmates?

SMDH.
