Nichkhun involved in a minor car accident while driving under the influence

3:45 pm - 07/23/2012

2PM‘s Nichkhun has been allegedly caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

On July 24th at 3:30AM, Nichkhun was involved in a car accident while driving in Gangnam. The singer was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he rear-ended a motorcycle.

His blood alcohol level was measured at 0.056%, a percentage where he will be subjected to his license becoming suspended.

An official from Gangnam’s police station informed Dispatch over the telephone July 24th, “After measuring his alcohol content at the site [of the incident], it was concluded that Nichkhun was not severely intoxicated. Immediately after the accident, Nichkhun and the victim were investigated by the police.”

No one was injured at the scene, and there was no serious damage to either vehicle. The police station official continued, “It was a small accident and neither Nichkhun nor the victim were injured. Both vehicles were insured, and Nichkhun has taken measures to safely return home following his investigation.”

He's just above the limit I think? Oh shit though, he should have used his brain and not drive, idk try a taxi dumbass. But I'm wondering if this was more an accident and less related to his state. But yeah, Khun man wtf were you thinking? I'm just glad nothing bad happened to either of them.

I heard that Korea has a really nice service in which you can call someone to drive your car back home... IDK why people don't use it more often.

kneekalies 23rd-Jul-2012 09:28 pm (UTC)
seriously, bothered that he could't take the time to call a car service and decided to put people lives in danger.

I'm glad the cyclist isn't hurt.

What's the blood alcohol level limit thing in Korea? Just out of curiosity because I know here it's 0.08
raiha_kasep 23rd-Jul-2012 09:34 pm (UTC)

How incredibly stupid of him. Good thing no-one was hurt.
2ne3rd 23rd-Jul-2012 09:32 pm (UTC)
It's unfortunate that he was intoxicated, but at least there's no serious injuries.
oh and good luck to Khun and Hottest.. you'll need it with all the hate that's surely coming your way.

We have practice, don't worry about us.
shintotchi 23rd-Jul-2012 09:33 pm (UTC)
While it was a DUI, this seems like a minor one. Looking it up, it seems like .05% intoxication would be 1 to 2 drinks at most. I guess it really depends on what he drank and his normal tolerance level. The way it's written, I'm not 100% sure the accident was caused due to his drinking.
wind_master1 23rd-Jul-2012 10:29 pm (UTC)
Actually, it depends more on his size (height and weight) and how quickly he drank the alcohol. The recommended speed is less than one standard sized bottle of beer an hour. According to another article, he was drinking beer, and judging from his relatively high BAC, he was probably drinking it relatively quickly.

And his intoxication level is actually pretty high. At that point, his concentration and possibly his reasoning and visual perception were impaired, so his accident was probably because of the alcohol.

Fuck him. I can't stand drunk drivers, especially rich ones. JUST TAKE A CAB.
All respect lost for him. I knew there was always something off about him...

When I was starting to gain more respect for the 2PM members, oh welp. :c
There's no excuse for driving drunk, especially if you're rich and can afford a taxi/etc.

tsk tsk Nichkhun.
I'm just glad everyone is okay, hopefully he won't do this again.

Question: How big are these bottles of alcohol that they drink? Whenever idols are asked about how much they can handle they seem to always answer "1 bottle" or "2 bottles", etc.

mycorrhizoid 23rd-Jul-2012 09:57 pm (UTC)
I think they're generally talking about soju there, and wiki says a typical bottle is 300mL (about 10 oz).

However, apparently the alcohol content varies. 20% ABV is typical, but it can go as low as 16.7% or as high as 45%.
exo_cath 23rd-Jul-2012 09:44 pm (UTC)
Really disappointed in him and was really upset when I heard this :/ I know that Nichkhun has the brains to know that he shouldn't have done that :(
Glad that the motorcyclist wasn't hurt and Khun is lucky that it wasn't that serious
myungsugoi 23rd-Jul-2012 09:46 pm (UTC)
smh at some bbc saying this karma. if people actually got hurt that is some sick karma you want.
obviousgirl 23rd-Jul-2012 10:10 pm (UTC)
But technically it is karma.
love_allure 23rd-Jul-2012 09:49 pm (UTC)
gross. so gross.
asiapopsecret 23rd-Jul-2012 09:49 pm (UTC)
I'm glad it wasn't serious or anything. But tbh, this kind of thing is going to happen anywhere. People losing respect for him is kind of unfair. People make mistakes, Nickhun made one, and now hopefully he can learn from it.
love_allure 23rd-Jul-2012 10:06 pm (UTC)
how is losing respect for someone "unfair" when they took it upon themselves to drunk drive? they lost that respect with their actions, they deal with the consequences.
geniebsmart 23rd-Jul-2012 09:49 pm (UTC)
No Nichkhun noooooo OTL

So glad the cyclist was not hurt!

I don't drink and never been designated driver before, but i assume there's a buddy system, right? Even if one person goes out to drink by oneself, there's a list of people he/she can call for a ride, right? Even if that option is not available, there are taxis. Are and other people afraid of getting caught drunk or something by the fans/press/etc? Like...grrrr I don't know. There was a better way than for Khun to do THIS. Oh boy...
mycorrhizoid 23rd-Jul-2012 10:25 pm (UTC)
I gotta wonder if they're worried that they'll get a taxi driver affiliated with sasaengs.

Still doesn't make this kind of decision acceptable, but . . .
allthingsgood 23rd-Jul-2012 09:52 pm (UTC)
As someone who doesn't know how to drive and wouldn't really want to drive anyway, maybe I don't get the mentality, but I don't understand why getting a cab/getting a driver is not the default action when you're drunk. I doubly can't understand it when you're as rich as this and getting a cab probably costs less than the money used to wipe your butt. You're tired! And driving means you have to do something yourself! Getting someone else to drive is obviously the solution to this. Why do people not have this inherent sense of laziness and common sense?!
jasmineakaiumi 24th-Jul-2012 12:15 am (UTC)
lmao ikr! When I drink I'm like UGHH I DON'T EVEN FEEL LIKE WALKING THE 20 MINUTES TO MY HOUSE LET'S TAKE A CAB so idg why someone would even want to attempt driving
