G-Dragon’s new solo album will have to delay its release date due to the new video rating law implemented by the Korea Media Rating Board (KMRB).

According to a report by Star News, G-Dragon and YG Entertainment just recently found out that the new video rating law initiated by KMRB gets enforced on August 18, the initial set date for G-Dragon’s new solo album, which is also his birthday. Because of this new law, all videos expected to get released and uploaded online after August 18 are required to get a classified ranking by the KPRB prior to its release.

KMRB is accepting new videos requests starting from August 13, one week prior to the first enforcement date. It usually takes 7 to 10 days to get the classification so G-Dragon is expected to get his new MV out on August 20 at the earliest.

We planned all the promotions with G-Dragon’s birthday in mind. But unfortunately, his birthday falls on the same day as the first enforcement date. Because of this new rule, a lot of our plans are getting complicated,” Yang Hyun Suk, the head of YG Entertainment said.

He also expressed his disappointment with the new law saying, “Time is a very sensitive issue in the K-Pop industry. A lot of the artists spend hours editing the video even until the last moment before releasing it. It’s this type of attention to detail and professionalism that really brought up K-Pop’s overall quality.”

He continued, “Due to this new system, a lot of the artists are no longer able to plan their promotions in advance. We don’t even know when the video will first get released now, so all of our plans are heading for the worst case. If KPRB doesn’t pay more attention to the root of the problem, this is only going to get worse.”

Meanwhile, G-Dragon began filming for his new music video yesterday and was aiming for a comeback on August 18, just in time for his birthday. This will be his second solo album and the first in three years.

naturalhonee 11th-Aug-2012 04:26 am (UTC)
ikr when has GD ever 'smooth-sailed' thru anything
i guess that's just his career though: controversy + major success nonetheless.
prettyminstrel 10th-Aug-2012 05:32 pm (UTC)

Well... just release the mv later.
annhh 10th-Aug-2012 06:04 pm (UTC)
I wonder what's the root of the problem
ashiva 10th-Aug-2012 06:11 pm (UTC)
They aren't probably done with album production yet and are just using this as an excuse to postpone the release date as otherwise they could release the title track and MV just before midnight on 17th.

ashiva 10th-Aug-2012 06:05 pm (UTC)
Just release that damn MV like 23.59 on 17th and be done with it.
goldenrosalie 10th-Aug-2012 06:21 pm (UTC)
ikr? i don't really understand why they don't want to release mv EARLIER tha Aug18. this would eliminate the problem.
falling_empress 10th-Aug-2012 06:17 pm (UTC)
that sucks for the labels...if the vid has to be re-edited to be approved that's time and money wasted
benihime99 10th-Aug-2012 06:19 pm (UTC)
Not to mentionned that this law seems to be "vague" as to what will be censored
I'm not sure labels even know what to look for

Funny how when I "monitor" music videos all day, it's just an unproductive,
time consuming hobby, but for other people it's a job and a mission of protecting the youth.
How can I apply to this KMRB?

“Time is a very sensitive issue in the K-Pop industry. A lot of the artists spend hours editing the video even until the last moment before releasing it. It’s this type of attention to detail and professionalism that really brought up K-Pop’s overall quality.”

Lol, I find this statement beyond hilarious. Kpop agencies NOT planning everything in a timely fashion is exactly what is at the root of this whole issue!

We've all known for a long time that GD has been planning a solo album release for August this year. Why isn't the album ready weeks before that date and why didn't they plan to shoot the MV like two weeks earlier with enough time to edit it properly, pay attention to details and have it checked by the government?

Seriously, why is planning stuff properly such a huge impossibility in kpop where almost everything nowadays seems to be a last-minute fail undertaking?

And lol, YG postponing things - totally shocking!!!
sisterjune 10th-Aug-2012 07:47 pm (UTC)
omg that eito gif, why is subaru walking out in a fit? is that from papadol? lol. (i never watched that drama but my eighter friend Mari was like omg they got eito way wrong in it, and also its a terrible drama and I was like welp)
benihime99 10th-Aug-2012 07:50 pm (UTC)
Yes it's from papadol
Didn't watch the drama cause I don't like the plot but there's a lot of nice gif coming out of it
Mostly Eito judging the fuck out of Ryo XD
patentpending 10th-Aug-2012 08:56 pm (UTC)
So, artists can't even upload "alternative" versions of the videos just to be viewed on youtube anymore?
madbeevip 10th-Aug-2012 09:04 pm (UTC)
Damn, YG! You've got 8 days to work with. Upload it before the 18th!

I still don't understand how they can enforce this law on videos uploaded to Youtube.
inurbed 10th-Aug-2012 09:05 pm (UTC)
This is the time when netizens need to do their witch hunt.
