Jonghyun recently changed his Twitter dp to this:

Translation of the picture of the open letter on Jonghyun's Twitter profile:

Hyunstar about Jonghyun’s new profile picture content: “Jonghyun’s new profile picture is a message stuck on the notice board of a certain university’s sociology department. The title of the essay is: “Not welcomed no matter what we are called”. The essence of the content is to encourage people to stop discriminating against LGTBs.

translationsCollapse )

Kim Eun-ha, the author of this letter got a wind of this and posted up a DM of her conversation with Jonghyun.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who cried. Jjong, you golden-hearted jerkface <3
It really pisses me off though, the idea that SM would be mad and might make him retract what he's said.

It'd be an absolute miracle if they issued a statement agreeing with Jonghyun, wouldn't it?
achan123 14th-Dec-2013 09:03 pm (UTC)
it would be such a huge bitchslap that SM says that jonghyun is entitled to his opinion and he can do whatava the fuk he wants to
xkat_attackx 14th-Dec-2013 08:34 pm (UTC)
Ugh, my flawless bias remains flawless. He's just so freaking perfect. Like he's good looking, talented, smart, kind, etc. LITERALLY WHEN WILL YOUR FAVES?

And I swear, if people come in here and try to somehow spin his words or find negativity in this then good fucking bye tbh.

This is wonderful Jonghyun. Hopefully this will be a good example to other people as well.
bambi_lu 14th-Dec-2013 08:48 pm (UTC)
Ugh, Jonghyun why? There was a reason that you were my first Shinee bias and a reason I keep coming back to you. He's seriously perfection. And he even thought of her feelings and wanted to make sure she was alright? Just. Yeah. I need a moment.
1111_am 14th-Dec-2013 08:49 pm (UTC)
I always knew he was one of my faves for a reason. bb's got a heart of gold :')

Also, idk but this reminds me of that one interview or something where he's talking about marriage and all the members make a joke about it being a guy and Key's all like "well, maybe it'll be okay by the time you get married."

me too! Plenty of people tried to brush it off as a joke but every joke has a grain of truth to them

also wanted to let everybody know what the girl has written is part of a campaign that's been circulating all over korean college campuses, started with a korea university student who's posted an open letter titled "Are You Doing Well Today?" it was about the political and social issues going on in korea right now, and how even though we are aware of the issues happening all over the country, we've been ignoring them by not doing anything about it, and that the college students, the young intellectuals of the day, need to stand up for what they believe in and change the country.

What the girl has written is an answer to that letter, addressing the issues she cares about, which are LGBT issues. I think it's wonderful that the college students of this decade are rising up to speak their mind, but also sad that the same thing happened in the 70s and 80s and the country has not improved since their demos and sacrifice. in fact the guy who wrote the first open letter was already visited by the investigators who's asked him questions on why he wrote it in the first place. it's scary times in korea, and i'm glad jonghyun is aware of the issues and also uses his celebrity status to show support and spread awareness.
anthonymarie 14th-Dec-2013 09:12 pm (UTC)
wow thanks for shedding more light on this issue. it's scary and totally unnecessary that the guy who wrote the first letter was instigated but i'm glad a lot more people are taking a stance!
theharleyquinn 14th-Dec-2013 09:10 pm (UTC)
The actual letter itself was such a good but upsetting read. I was so moved by it, and I'm glad that Jonghyun passed it along. The student is the real brave one here, but he's also taking a huge risk by approving, so good on him for getting the word out and actually demanding dialogue on LGBT issues. SM can't keep a cap on him, it seems, and it's always cool when things like this happen.

I actually like that Jonghyun talks about politics so much. He'd be an interesting person to talk to. I think he's a lot more thoughtful than his persona and people's assumptions credit him for.

Yeah, it'd be really easy for him to keep his mouth shut on these issues, being an idol and all. I'm glad he doesn't.
hipployta Jjong...why can't you be happy with sharing my #2 bias spot in Shinee14th-Dec-2013 09:13 pm (UTC)
Why must you insist on being #1?

That student is beyond brave
