T.O.P Wants to Keep Acting as Long as People Want Him To

On September 1, BIGBANG’s T.O.P, who also goes by Choi Seung Hyun, revealed his plans for his acting career in an interview with OSEN.

He said, “If there are people who want me to act, I would like to continue doing so. I want to keep going if I can do it well. But, honestly, I don’t think acting is a job that I do while expecting to succeed. I only act as an advocate for the character that I am portraying.” He continued, “It’s the same for a singer but an actor is always the latter of two parties, the audience being the former. I want to continue acting until I am sure that the audience wants me. But I don’t want to continue unless I get that confidence. I think that is one of the reasons why I haven’t done that many projects yet.

Meanwhile, T.O.P is the lead character for Tazza 2, which is set to be released this coming September 3.

Tazza actors talk about actor Choi Seung Hyun (MAXMOVIE)

From a Max Movie article (x)
I wanted to translate this for you guys because it shows how hard he worked for the movie, and it was really nice to see all the compliments from his senior actors. I’m so proud of him ಥ‿ಥ I hope you guys enjoy reading it!

“When I joined the movie crew for the role “Agui”, they were 4~5 months into filming, and Choi Seung Hyun was already perfectly melted into his character, Ham Dae Gil. He is a friend that is young and full of energy. I got the impression that he has very pretty eyes.” Actor Kim Yoon Seok

“I wanted an actor with good eyes for Daegil’s role. For Daegil’s role, you have to show how you break through the great wave called ‘life’ with your eyes, and you have to go against eyes like Agui’s. In that sense, Choi Seung Hyun was the best, irreplaceable choice for an actor with good eyes.” Director Kang Hyung Cheol

“It must have been stressful acting with big seniors at a young age of 28, and he must have worked very hard since there were exposing scenes. It must have been a huge burden to him, and I don’t think I would have been able to handle all that if I were his age. But Choi Seung Hyun have handled it so well and really did his best.” Actor Kwak Do Won

“As I watched Seunghyun oppa thinking seriously and working diligently, there were a lot of times when I had to reflect on myself. I haven’t really worked with actors around my age a lot, and as I was watching him, I was very surprised and touched.” Actress Shin Se Kyung

“Choi Seung Hyun is a very dynamic character. He has the heaviness (seriousness) of a veteran actor, and he also has the flexibility of improvising little playful things. He is a brilliant actor well equipped with those qualities.” Actor Kim In Kwon

“From the moment we started working together, we had good harmony. I almost felt sorry for Goni (Cho Seung Woo) that I worked with for (2006) because I felt like I was betraying him. But as I was filming, I realized that Daegil was sitting in Goni’s place before I even knew it.” Actor Yoo Hae Jin

“Choi Seung Hyun is an actor that is like a sponge. When Director Kang Hyung Cheol asks him to do something or directs something at the filming scene, he absorbs the information without having to explain it 2 or 3 more times. He even applies what he learned, and he did so well without losing his energy.” Actress Go Soo Hee

“He is an actor that gives off an innocent feeling like a baby. It’s a great advantage that he can turn into good acting.” Actor Oh Jung Se

“It was impressive to watch him work so passionately. There was a scene where I hugged Daegil like he was my son, and I personally felt happy and proud. It made me wonder if I would ever be able to have a son this handsome.”(Laughs) Actor Lee Gyeong Young

“He was very passionate even when he was outside the cameras. Since he had bright and innocent sides like a young boy, I was able to work in good harmony with him in a happy, affectionate manner.” Actress Park Hyo Ju

T.O.P’s Press Interviews for Tazza 2

Some translations from the interviews:

TOP: It was my first time to do melo/romance, more so with two women. It was like a burden to me. I wasn’t confident if I could act the character at first. Since the original cartoon was loved by people so much, it took me a long time to decide. I knew it was kind of risky, but it’s not my style to care about netizens’ concerns.

TOP: I hate showing skin. It just makes me shy. My fans have said that it’s shocking that I showed skin (in the movie), and it was shocking for me too. (laughs) When I was filming shirtless, I was like screaming because I was so shy. It was so embarrassing. If the two actresses weren’t there for the naked scene, it might have looked like a sauna scene with 3 naked men.

Q: Did you work out for the movie?
TOP: I didn’t really try to make muscles (get muscular), but I tried to lose weight instead. In the original series, Daegil is pretty skinny. The director also didn’t want a muscular, super built body, so I didn’t do any shoulder or arms workout.

Acting alongside Shin Se Kyung
TOP: It was my first time meeting Shin Se Kyung after meeting her for a commercial shooting 4-5 years ago. She had a mature image compared to her age, so I was worried about things like, “What if she’s too sensitive? What if I make a mistake?” But when I actually met her, she was very honest, cool, and caring for other people. It was my first time meeting an actress that is so considerate of others. I only have good memories about Shin Se Kyung.

Q: Do you like girls like Shin Se Kyung?
TOP: She is too good for me. (laughs)

Working with Lee Honey
TOP: I’ve known Lee Honey nuna since a long time ago, but I have never talked to her. We just said hi when we ran into each other. While filming, I talked a lot to Lee Honey nuna. It felt like she was my real sister. Her personality was really cool and straightforward. It was my first time meeting an actress as cool as her. She doesn’t hide anything. She makes the other person feel comfortable, so it was great acting with her.

On acting
TOP: I want to keep acting as long as I can do well and as long as there are people who want me to. I don’t think the job (acting) is for a big success. I just act as a substitute for the character.

On promoting as Big Bang and as an actor at the same time
TOP: The bad thing about it is that there’s a lot of times spent in confusion. Even though I’ve been doing music since I was young, when I come back to being a singer after acting, it takes about 1-2 months to step on the pedal and pedal to the top. It’s the same as acting. Every time feels like it’s my first time.
