Bangtan (BTS) release teaser pictures taken in The Holocaust Memorial in Berlin

BTS posted teaser photos on Twitter recently, which is great! But, uh, then people recognized the location as the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin.

So … yeah that’s a bad idea. Like horrible. Pictures is one thing, but a fucking photoshoot, apparently for a photobook? Come on.

Anyway, after being inundated with tweets, BTS’s official Twitter finally took the pics down (which is why I don’t have all of them), but it’s a bit late for that anyway.

I trust I don’t have to explain the problem to oppa apologists here.

OP UPDATE:

A spokesperson of the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe had previously commented on a similar situation:

"We only give permission to projects that have a connection to the memorial, the Holocaust or some aspect of commemoration."

This raised concern amoung fans that BigHit either didn't attempt to get permission or were denied and followed suit anyway.

It's also been noted by some that Rapmon had previously worn a hat that bears Nazi symbols (swastika, eagle, and skull). Specifically, the insignia of the SS, who were responsible for running the concentration camps all over Europe.

BigHit has yet to release an official statement.

Pictures under cut.Collapse )

This is disgusting. No words.

I don't really like linking AsianJunkie since their "articles" are not really "articles" but it's the only one I could find that isn't Allkpop.

Before everyone jumps on them (which is kind of too late), you should read this:

I honestly don't think they did this on purpose considering how the residents treat the memorial more like a park than an actual memorial. No, I don't think this excuses them, but I can see how they would get mixed up about what the place actually is. I just feel uncomfortable how much hate BTS/BigHit is getting considering how this could actually just be one big mistake. I think calling them disgusting and complete idiots is going a bit far when we don't even know the whole situation.

Again, yes, I think they screwed up, but I don't think it wasn't out of purposeful disrespect and the way some people are expressing their distaste for this whole mess is nonconducive to the situation.

Thanks for this. I like having as much information as possible when dealing with situations of this nature.

I think they knew exactly what they were doing and thought they were being so fucking cool and edgy.

Nothing like the memory of six million people losing their lives to inspire you to bring out the sexy. Gross

This is so fucked up and disgusting.
And as a non BTS fan, I'll say this - you can't put this in the same category with RapMonster saying the n word, as that's something he has done on his free will .I doubt they had any say in this, so I'll blame it on their management.
This group is messy as fuck though.

I still can't wrap my head around this mess. BigHit screwed up big time.
Who planned this photoshoot? Don't you try to get information about the places you wanna take pictures at for a photobook?
To make sure you are allowed to take pictures there? To get permission if needed? To realize that taking pictures for a photoshoot at a Holocaust memorial is absolutely disgusting?

I live in Germany, not in Berlin, but I have been there and I have seen pictures and video footage from the memorial site and it's true that people act rather "freely" around it. Sitting on the monuments, kids playing hide and seek and all that stuff. And I think that's not okay at all. It's really disrespectful. But just because other people ("even Germans") act this disrespectful around the memorial site doesn't mean that it's okay for BTS/BigHit to do the same.
There are soo many other places they could have taken nice pictures at. Even EXO could take pictures for a whole photobook in Berlin without visiting really famous spots there. I bet BigHit could have found some as well if they really wanted to.

I have no idea where I wanted to go with this but I am still angry and disappointed and can't really put my thoughts into words well right now.

What is this fuckery? Who's idea was it to have a photoshooting at a Holocaust memorial?! This person should be given a history lesson and then be fired!!! How did they even get the okay for this?
This is incredibly disrespectful.
