Hello OMONA!

As a frequent submitter of posts (my record is 7 posts a day, yes I have no life) I know the struggle of finding good sources. Especially new users that want to submit a post but don't know where to get good information might choose not to post at all. But don't worry cause the good sis goshipgurl is here today to bring you an

updated list of sources that are

Our last post with a list of possible sources was in 2009, wtf. Since then many sites have shut down (R.I.P.), new ones have seen the light and others got banned *cough* akpoop *cough*. I took time out of my busy life (ha who am I kidding) and tracked down as many news sites as possible. I'm dividing this post into three categories: General K-Entertainment Websites/Blogs/Forums, Newspapers and Sites in English and Translated Netizen Content. You can also always post content from your oppa's Instagram, Twitter or Youtube, as long as you credit them! If you know other sites just drop them in the comments below and I'll add them to the list.

General K-Entertainment Websites/Blogs/Forums

Translated Netizen Content

Korean Newspaper & Websites (in English)

Sites you should avoid

  • allkpoop - Ever since the Ailee nude picture scandal the self-proclaimed premier source for all the latest K-pop celebrity gossip is a banned site here at OMONA. Submitted posts with content from their site will get rejected!

  • Koreaboo - to quote CEO-nim shanny_w, "Koreaboo is someone we are careful with since sometimes they print iffy stuff and sometimes we repost it and get an angry email from someone threatening us to take it down." So before you submit a post from Koreaboo, try and find the same article on another site.

Disclaimer: omonatheydidnt is not responsible for any of these websites.

Are we allowed sourcing from r/kpop? There are sometimes user translations, though i'm sure eventually other sites listed above will cover the same article too, I guess.
giriboy 3rd-Apr-2017 06:23 pm (UTC)
i've seen ppl source off reddit before! maybe just cross-check between sites?

Chosun Ilbo CANNOT be used as a source. It is copyrighted, and gives you a warning.

Are you guys sure about KpopStarz? There's nothing wrong with them, but I've seen some of their stories include fan comments, via Twitter, if I remember correctly. (Then again, I'm not sure why I'm complaining, but whatever.)
goshipgurl 4th-Apr-2017 12:41 am (UTC)
you can include fan comments in your posts but you have to mention them in your sources as well!

Thanks for the post! I usually just stick with Soompi/Dramabeans since I'm not sure what other sources are out there, so this is definitely helpful and will be bookmarked for future use. I actually had looked up that 2009 post last week because I was searching for new sources for drama stuff, so this is perfect timing.

Thanks for making this post, OP!

A couple of disclaimers / mod tips:

- We would prefer if posts weren't purely netizen comments. They're interesting to read from time to time, but we'd much rather have a fully/partially translated article than just reactions to said article. Then we'd just be reacting to the reactions, and that's pointless.

- I would put Asianjunkie in line with Koreaboo. Their articles are also very subjective, so it's best to be mindful about what you share from there.

- Please check a source's terms before copy pasting / sharing from them. Sometimes they only allow partial sharing, so you can only share a couple of paragraphs and then just link back to them for the rest of the article (ex. billboard & moonrok)

- When sourcing from other forums such as OneHallyu or r/kpop, make sure to credit the user that made the translations, and also include a link to their original source

That's all I can think of for now.. if you have any questions or need any help, feel free to message the mods. :D

how can you put asianjunkie and koreaboo in the same category, AJ is quality journalism at its finest
