Itaewon Murder Case features “psychopathic” Jang Geun-seok

Check out the teaser poster for Jang Geun-seok’s newest movie, the murder mystery based on a true story, Itaewon Murder Case [이태원 살인사건].

In the movie, Jang plays one of two Korean-American teenagers who are the main suspects in a killing occurring in an Itaewon fast-food restaurant. Both young men point the finger at the other for the killing a Korean university student, and the thriller unfolds as a detective (Jung Jin-young) tries to uncover what really happened. This casting differs slightly from the true case upon which the movie is based, which occurred twelve years ago in April of 1997 and has never been entirely resolved. The real case involved 17-year-old American Arthur Patterson and 18-year-old Korean-American Edward Lee, who were let go after a “bungled prosecution,” after which Patterson fled to the U.S. and Lee was acquitted by the Supreme Court.

According to a source with the film production, this story differs from other murder-thriller movies like Memories of Murder or Voice of a Murder in which authorities pursue an unknown killer. In Itaewon Murder Case, the two suspects are already in custody, and police must decide which is the true culprit.

Itaewon Murder Case also stars actors Shin Seung-hwan, Go Chang-seok, Oh Kwang-rok, and Triple’s resident cutie Song Joong-ki. It is planning for a September release. Meanwhile, Jang Geun-seok also recently announced his next television role in the idol drama You’re Beautiful.

Moon Chae-won begins filming My Fair Lady

Since we’ve gotten our first look at the main players of KBS’s My Fair Lady [아가씨를 부탁해, or 아부해], now we get to see how Moon Chae-won is taking on her character.

Moon’s role as aspiring shoe designer “Eui-joo” is described as “cute and bubbly,” and she plays a young woman who has grown up her whole life as a little sister figure to Yoon Sang-hyun’s “Dong-chan” character. Moon explained that thanks to Yoon Sang-hyun’s joking attitude, they share a pleasant and comfortable vibe, which no doubt will help their onscreen chemistry as longtime buddies.

Moon Chae-won is jumping into filming for My Fair Lady with hardly a break from her last project, the incredibly popular weekend drama Brilliant Legacy, which just wrapped on SBS. She said of her role, “This is different from the past character in that she doesn’t have a dark side. I’m feeling physically tired because I’m entering this project without resting, but I’m using the endorphins from her cheerful character and enjoying filming. There are things I’m nervous about, but I’m working well with the other actors and the filming atmosphere is so great that I’m gaining energy from that.”

My Fair Lady premieres August 19 on KBS.

Target: The government of North Korea
Sponsored by:
Laura Ling and Euna Lee, two American journalists, were recently sentenced to 12 years of prison in North Korea.

On March 17, 2009, Laura and Euna were shooting video along the China/North Korea border for a story they were working on about the trafficking of women in the region. They were stopped by North Korean border guards and arrested immediately thereafter. Both women were transported to Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, where they remained under arrest until their trial.

A verdict in their closed trial was reached on June 8, and both Laura and Euna were sentenced to 12 years of reform through labor for illegal entry and grave crimes against the North Korean state.

Since the sentencing, the families have been able to receive calls on a few occasions. During the second call received on the evening of July 7, Laura and Euna reported that they are being treated fairly and are being seen by physicians. In the most recent call, they asked for continued support from our country and its citizens for their amnesty.

Urge the government of North Korea to grant amnesty to Laura Ling and Euna Lee!

[Contains Eugene's own interview about the case] Fans Seek to Save Violinist From Abuse

Fans of electric violinist Eugene Park are waging a campaign to better protect him after reports of abuse, extortion and illegal confinement by his previous agency in Korea emerged last week.

The drive is gaining momentum as video clips and writings on the Internet have showed Park expressionless and much thinner than before.

According to Internet posters, Park has been practically enslaved by his former agency for the last five years and forced to perform at small events it hosted unrelated to classical music. A photo showed a blank-faced Park posing with local residents drinking liquor.

It has been alleged that Park was kidnapped and illegal confined by his former agency. The company also kept all of his fees.

Chuno loses its leading lady

Not long after Han Hyo-joo announced her next project, she’s changed her mind and dropped out of Chuno [추노], the Joseon-era fusion sageuk with Jang Hyuk and Oh Ji-ho (who are staying with the production). In Chuno, Han was to have played a daughter to servants who falls into a love triangle with the two leading men.

This coincides with Han Hyo-joo’s recent decision to part ways with her management company and go a different way on her own. Apparently the disagreement over Chuno arose from this, as well as conflicts regarding salary.

The production team (led by the director of Conspiracy in the Court and the screenwriter of Level 7 Civil Servant) are currently in search of a new actress to fill her spot.

Han Hyo-joo has had a successful record of leading drama series, enough to be called something of a hitmaker (she followed her popular Iljimae role with the recent smash hit series Brilliant Legacy), so no doubt she’ll land on her feet. It has been hinted that she is in talks to join a different drama “starring a pretty-boy actor” — somehow, You’re Beautiful with Jang Geun-seok springs to mind — and will announce her next role shortly.

The members' injunction application has been approved

An explanation of what this might mean by bgurl1210 : An injunction does mean that the receiving party must stop whatever they are doing until something is resolved. They are legally required to do so. I'm not sure what they do in Korea but it might actually means their contract isn't being enforced right now.
