HyunA Reveals "Change" Teaser

HyunA has teamed up with JoonHyung of BEAST for her new solo song, "Change."

A one minute teaser has been released and this song is right up HyunA's ally. From the teaser, we get to hear more repetitive phrases, rapping and a little vocal from HyunA.

For a solo album, I was expecting to see a "change" from HyunA, but so far from the teaser, the song is too close for comfort and too similar to what 4Minute would sing.

G Generation Taecyeon's Interview w/ Chosun

In 2005, a student attending a high school in Boston, America had a future set out for him. He was athletic with a tall height of 185 cm and 76k. His grades were in the top 5% of the nation and he was a member of the National Honor Society. Sophomore year of high school, he received an admissions to the University of Massachusetts. His future dream was to be a doctor or a business man.

With an audition by JYP Entertainment for gyopos abroad, the life of this boy was shaken up. He was at a crossroad. Will he take the road of stability and success in America or gamble with his life in a foreign country in order to become a star?

He immediately put himself on a plane to Korea and led a dark life of an unpredicted future as a trainee. Four years later, he's become one of the biggest stars to receive the love of teens all across Korea. He's idol group 2PM's Ok Taecyeon.

"I was regular just like anyone else. I only knew how to study. But the opportunity to live a different kind of life from everyone else made my heart beat a bit faster. I knew that I was jumping into a completely different world but I wasn't afraid at all. There's a saying that you're going to suffer no matter what when you're young anyway."

There's a new generation arising in Korea called the 'G Generation,' calling those born after the 1988 Seoul Olympics. They're characterized by their inability to go with the flow and their constant need to be different from those around them.

Ok Taecyeon is one of them. Born in 1988, his family immigrated to America during 6th grade. When he came back, Ok noticed "Although I came back after 6 years, I realized that we all had the same outlook on life. There was this urge to build and live in a unique world of our own."

A psychologist from Yonsei University describes it as "The older generation always molded themselves into the expectations of their family or society and some have even succeeded like that. The young adults of the G Generation instead long to be liberated from the views and opinions of others and look for success in work that truly fascinates them."

An international relations professor of JoongAng University states "The baby boom and 386 generation were always preoccupied with how they will look in the eyes of others. The G Generation instead focuses on the importance of individuality and the personal happiness of one another."

Despite the optimism of the G Generation, professionals are often critical and full of worry. A nerve psychiatry professor of Keonkook University explained "The G Generation grew up in an environment where there is always an abundance of everything. In basic issues such as loss of relationships or loss of grades, they are often extremely depressed while handling them when the older generation is able to cope and overcome within 2~3 days. The G Generation also has a harder time than their elders when attending mandatory military service. They receive a lot of stress from just having to share an environment with someone else."

Can you imagine a doctor or a businessman like this:

Korea's worst English of 2009

Not all of these are unique to 2009, and really you could flip through television or the Korea Times and make some easy substitutions to the bottom five, but here are ten that made my head hurt this year.

10) Oh shed. Oops, that should be "oh shit," a phrase students say all the time when they're frustrated. Can't seem to pronounce it, though, and nobody really gets that it's not a word you should be using in class.

9) Unbelievable. I don't know how "언빌리버블" got started, but it's a word that crept into advertisements and talk shows with noticable regularity.

8) I don't care. This was a big year for songs with English catchphrases---Mista, Hot Issue, Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry, Bo Peep Bo Peep Bo Peep Bo Peep Bo Peep Bo Peep Bo Peep Bo---and 2ne1 came out with a single that provided students with an especially annoying answer.

7) Comeback. In the K-pop world of singles and four-song "mini albums," "comeback" is used when a group comes out with their next song and dance. But, it's not a comeback if they don't go anywhere.

6) Gosship Gull. I'm pretty sure Koreans don't say this phrase with any regularity, but it's important to include the worst K-pop song of 2009 on the list. The song and video for Ranbow's "Gossip Girl" are bad, very bad, on a number of levels.

wtf get some rest already.
guys so far there's only ONE article on this so we'll have to wait for an official statement.

4minute and BEAST go Universal

JYPE's sister group Cube Entertainment has been very successful with their rookie groups 4minute and BEAST. With both of their albums passing 20,000 sales, this company is going to have a bright future.

On the 4th, Cube met with representatives from Universal, which is the largest record company in the world. After many discussions, the companies decided that Universal would help Cube debut outside of Korea. Does this mean that the two groups are going to debut in the States? There's no information of that (yet), but it seems like Cube's artists will officially start selling their albums all over Asia. There are plans to distribute album copies to eight countries in Asia, including Japan, which Korean artists tend to cross over to.

4minute's album, For Muzik, will start selling this month in other countries. BEAST will follow, and then eventually artists like Mario and Eddie will also release albums internationally.

Considering the fact that the behind-the-scenes work is done by people who successfully distributed the albums by Rain and the Wonder Girls, and that the Hallyu wave is especially strong in Asia, chances are that Cube will success with this venture.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be completely shocked if Cube followed the US-debut trend and attempted to bring artists over to the States. If the Backstreet Boys, who made a comeback last year, can still make a ripple in the States, who knows... 4minute & BEAST may have a chance!

Dae-sung to replace T.O.P. in new Song Jina drama

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Dae-sung, member of popular boy band Big Bang, will replace T.O.P., the rapper of the same group, to star in a new TV series by famed writer Song Jina.

"Dae-sung will take off his acting career starting by making an appearance in 'Zero Plus'
," an official at the group's agency YG Entertainment told Asia Economic Daily over the phone on Monday.

T.O.P., whose real name is Choi Seung-hyun, had originally been tapped to play the main character but decided to withdraw from the drama due to a conflict of schedule. He had made his acting debut in 2007 drama "I Am Sam" and last appeared in hit blockbuster drama "Iris" alongside Lee Byung-hun and Kim Tae-hee.

Dae-sung, 20, was part of the cast for musical "Cats" in 2008 and also released a solo album early this year. He also makes regular appearances on popular weekly variety show "Family Outing".

Song, one of the most successful television writers in Korea, has written numerous hit dramas including "Kaist", "Sandglass" and the recent "The Story of the First King's Four Gods", which starred Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon.
"Sandglass", which starred top actress Koh Hyeon-jeong, recorded a 64 percent viewership rating at the time of its airing in 1995, making it one of the highest-rated dramas in Korean history.

"Zero," about the dreams and love stories of students enrolled in the theater department in college, is set to air within the first half of this year.
