Jang Geun-seok confirmed for You’re My Pet

Title says it all! It was previously reported that Jang Geun-seok would star in the movie version of You’re My Pet, but there was a conspicuous lack of confirmation following the initial report. Now the confirmation is out and the news is official.

The movie is based on the Japanese manga Kimi wa petto, which was turned into a Japanese drama series starring Matsumoto Jun in 2003. In this film adaptation, Jang Geun-seok’s character is a rising ballet dancer who dreams of becoming a musical actor and choreographer. He’s a playful and affectionate character who’s impossible to hate. (As if!)

Jang, who most recently played an easily irritable character in the trendy drama You’re Beautiful, said, “I always want to try new things. I wanted to take on a bright character in my next project, and You’re My Pet seems like it suits me very well.” He is currently busy with dance rehearsals before the film begins shooting.

The movie is aiming for a release later this year. No word yet on casting for the female lead, to whom Jang becomes the “pet” character.

I hope his dance solo (assuming there will be one) is as lulzy as the Matsumoto version. xD

Adoooorable actor Song Joong-ki (OB-GYN, Triple) has been cast as the lead in a special 4-episode MBC drama, called Running Shirt (working title).

According to Song’s management, Sidus HQ, he will play a bright and cheerful marathon runner in the “bright sports youth drama.” His character Dae-gu was born in 1988, the year Seoul hosted the Olympic Games, and had to give up sports because of a painful past. Youngest Member Park Yoon-hwa Leaving T-MAX

Park Yoon-hwa of the group T-MAX personally left a message on the group's official fan cafe site yesterday afternoon, April 5th. After first debuting in 2007 with the single "Blooming", Park has announced his departure from the group that has released hit songs such as "I Love You" ("널 사랑해''), "Why'd You Do That?" ("왜 그랬어"), and "Paradise".

On his posting, Park wrote, "I won't be able to take part in T-MAX's albums. It's not so much of a personal issue...Rather, as you all know, I simply have to answer to the call of my country. I have some personal things I need to attend to which has forced me to say good-bye a bit earlier than expected."

He added, "I'm sorry that I'm leaving despite having worked so hard to prepare for this and before showing you all that I feel I'm capable of. I put a lot of thought into this decision so I ask for your understanding. Although I will not longer be a part of the group, I do ask for your love and support for them. I do hope to return and surprise everyone as a better artist onstage one day. Thank you so much for all of your love and support!"

A T-MAX representative said that due to Park having to serve his mandatory military call, he decided that leaving the group was the best decision for both sides. T-MAX plans on recruiting an additional member to the remaining trio (Kim Joon, Shin Min-chul, and Park Han-bi) to continue their activities. Their newest album is slated for release this May.

Taegoon set to make acting debut

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Taegoon on the k-pop scene as he’s been busy with activities in Japan. It’s now been revealed the singer will be returning the Korean media but this time as an actor.

The singer made his debut last year with his mini-album Call Me and his title track of the same name. Since then he’s gathered quite a strong fan base so it seems he’ll have a lot of support with his debut as an actor.

Normally most singers would start out small with a television show but Taegoon is jumping right on to the big screen as he was cast in a movie called Piano Above The Sea. He will be taking on the lead male role as a pianist Jung Woo Hyuk as he presents a heart felt love story and will romance Jo An.

A rep from Taegoon’s label at WM Entertainment said, “The producer and director have long been looking at Taegoon and have finally chosen him. Since it is his first role, he is trying extra hard to practice his acting and piano abilities.”

Taegoon commented on his first acting role saying, “I’m honored to make my first debut through such a big project. I’ll do my best to not disappoint as an actor.“

I should probably switch to my Taegoon icon to make this post but I'm too attached to my IU icon right now. XD

TVXQ’s Yoochun to lead another drama

Because TVXQ’s Yoochun is hard at work with his new Japanese mobile tv drama Loving You, I thought he would be staying in Japan for a longer period. But it turns out we’ll be seeing Yoochun in Korea very soon.

Surprisingly enough, Yoochun will star in a historical drama.

So I’m guessing we’ll be seeing this pop star in some hanbok. He has been cast in the upcoming drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Sungkyunkwan is a university that dates way back from the Joseon Dynasty and the school still exists to this day. The drama is a love story on the Sungkyunkwan campus.

He will play Lee Sun Joon, a character that has the brain, looks and money. He is a rich boy that falls in love with a girl that is cross dressing for some reason.

Yoochun said, “I had fun reading the synopsis. I want to meet Sun Joon very soon. I’m honored to play such an interesting character in my first project. I will work hard to greet the viewers with a good project and as a good character.”

Sungkyunkwan Scandal will begin shooting in May.

NK Goes for Linux-Based Operating System

North Korea, the planet's deepest information void, appears to have its own computer operating system. Not that it puts Microsoft Windows to shame.

According to researchers at South Korea's Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), North Korea's Linux-based "RED Star" software is mainly designed to monitor the Web behavior of its citizens and control information made available to them.

However, the computer operating system does represent North Korean efforts to advance its computer technology, which lags as a result of the country's isolation, relying on Linux and other open-source software, said Kim Jong-seon, a STEPI researcher.

"The fact that North Korea established a computer operating system to control the flow of information within the country is meaningful in itself. By improving its ability to develop Linux-based programs, North Korea seems to be looking to expand the use of its computer programs in more areas," he said.
