500,000 "Ninja Assassin" DVDs Sold Within Four Weeks

Rain's first lead role in a Hollywood movie was of course the action-flick "Ninja Assassin". It was recently reported that it was the 10th most rented DVD in the U.S., according to an American DVD sales and rentals chart named Rentrak.

After hitting theatres in November of 2009, Rain's movie grossed $38,122,883 in ticket sales. Following that up with over $10 million in DVD sales within four weeks? Not too shabby... especially for a foreign star. According to reports from a U.S. film information site, The Numbers, after going on sale on March 17th, DVD sales for "Ninja Assassin" hit 514,683 within four weeks, bringing in a total of $10,084,306. Combine that with ticket sales at the box office, the film banked a total of $48,207,189. This exceeds the amount of $40 million dollars that was initially invested into the project.

The global box office sales totaled $61,590,252. Industry sources say that if that amount were to also take in the international DVD sales, the total gross amount would roughly be $90 million.

A Message from Yunho’s Father - Yu Kigoshi's Blog Update

T/N: Yu Kigoshi, born 1981. He is a writer in a publishing company, and also the author for the books “The Secrets of Tohoshinki Part 1” and “Part 2”. Some of our friends should remember that he collected encouraging comments to send to Yunho and Yunho’s father in Dec 2009 – Jan 2010.

T/N #2: Yunho’s father’s message was written before the news of the new unit was announced by avex. The blog entry was translated directly from Japanese, while Yunho's father's message was translated directly from Korean. We have made sure to keep the translation as accurate as possible to it's original form.

T/N #3: Before reading, one request from the staff team, please. When we introduced Kigoshi-san’s activities of sending messages to Yunho and Yunho’s father in Jan, we were sad to see some negative comments and groundless bad mouthing in some of the English sites, criticizing Kigoshi-san’s activities, which were especially for Yunho and Yunho’s father. Kigoshi-san seems to have seen them, too. We sincerely hope that all of our friends hold respect to those who are using their precious time for us fans. Thank you very much.

“Shock” @ Portuguese version of ‘So You Think you Can Dance?’

Sometimes we find ourselves at home, watching our boring TV, and then !BAM! Kpop in our faces!
That’s what happened when my friend was watching “Achas Que Sabes Dançar?”, the portuguese version of “So You Think You Can Dance?”, this sunday night.

In the castings, the contestant Hugo Teixeira “dances” to Beast’s song ‘Shock’ and then proceeds to explain his… feelings for it.

rain wins his second music bank k chart with love song

Having lost M! Countdown to Lee Hyori last week, there was no repeat of another loss on Music Bank as it was announced that Rain had won last week’s K-Chart against the very same opponent.

Even though broadcasting of Music Bank was canceled for the 4th straight week, scores were still tabulated as usual.

K-pop king, Rain kept his momentum going strong as he won the K-Chart with Love Song for the second week running. His score of 14,475 just barely edged out Lee Hyori who came in second with 14,182 points, a mere difference of just 293 points. SNSD, Super Junior’s Yesung and Secret rounded up the top 5 for the week.

This was Rain’s 4th trophy since making his return after winning twice at M! Countdown and Music Bank in the month of April.

We congratulate Rain on yet another win despite minimal stage performances and we certainly hope music shows will all return this week!

Congrats Rain :D

Pledis Entertainment to release their response to After School’s plagiarism accusations

8-member girl group After School has recently been entangled with choreographic plagiarism accusations by German dancer Camillo Lauricella, earning undivided attention from many K-pop fans. The accused dance moves were undoubtedly too identical to be called “mere coincidence,” though many would deem otherwise.

To refresh your memory…

Luckily, the accusations have already reached After School’s label Pledis Entertainment, who confirmed that they have seen the video themselves through a phone interview with Newsen on the 26th.

Pledis stated, “We saw the video yesterday. We are currently discussing the matter. We will release further statements very soon.”

From what we can see so far, lack of originality seems to be the number one problem the K-pop industry is currently suffering from, which is causing their music to be quickly downgraded by others.

Something really must be done about this mess. Let’s hope it starts with After School’s Bang! choreography.

Jjangu is a fan of the Adam Couple

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

We are all aware how much Korea, and even international fans, adore 2AM’s Jo Kwon and Brown Eyed Girls’ Ga-In, who play a make-believe couple on MBC We Got Married. Dubbed as the Adam Couple, the two have gained a huge fanbase since their stint on the show started and the numbers keep increasing steadily.

However, it seems like the Adam Couple is appealing to the 2-D world as well.

As seen in an episode of Korean cartoon show Jjangu (Crayon Shin-chan), he and his mother visit a norebang session and belt out Jo Kwon and Ga-In’s duet song We Fell in Love. They might not have been able to do the song justice, but it was a cute attempt that certainly deserves some credit on its own.

Shin Dong-hyuk Tells of Horrors of North Korean Prison Camps

SEOUL -- In Camp No. 14, the North Korean political prison where Shin Dong-hyuk was born and where he says he watched the hanging of his mother, inmates never saw a picture of Kim Jong Il.

"I had no idea who he is," Shin said, referring to the leader whose photograph is displayed nearly everywhere in North Korea.

Inmates did not need to know the face of their "Dear Leader," as Kim is called. Behind electrified fences, they tended pigs, tanned leather, collected firewood and labored in mines until they died or were executed.
