Korean tensions close to boiling point

Tensions are close to boiling point on the Korean peninsula after North Korea scrapped a pact aimed at preventing accidental armed clashes with the South.

This followed around 10,000 people marching in the South's capital of Seoul, to call for attacks on the North in revenge for the alleged torpedoing of a Southern warship.

Veteran writer Kim Soo-hyun’s goal is to make homosexuality a subject that is no longer taboo

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Homosexuality was once thoroughly dismissed in Korean society, discussed rarely even among friends and certainly not a subject to be treated lightly. In recent years, however, the topic has moved a bit farther out of the closet, with (seemingly and openly) gay characters appearing on the big screen. But television dramas have largely shied away from having an openly gay character, let alone a couple, as the focus of the show.

Enter the new SBS drama, “Beautiful Life,” which is about a doctor named Tae-sub who is in a relationship with Gyeong-su, a photographer. In the show, the attraction between two men is both physical and intellectual. They even consider marriage.

Kwon in the Club

The above picture of 2AM’s outrageous leader Jo Kwon at a Los Angeles night club has been recently circulating on the internet.  It appears the 2AM boys had a little vacation time on their hands being able to see some attractions, have some fun at Six Flags Magic Mountain (I would kill to see a vid or pic of Jo Kwon on the Tatsu or any other roller coaster there) and apparently clubbing.

No word on who the guy and gal surrounding Jo Kwon was, but they appear to be having a good time with Kwon striking a pose and being the center of attention.  It’s possible that this picture was taken at the after party of the JYP concert which was available to fans willing to shell out $300 per ticket.  There was no mention of the name of the club in the post or articles written about this picture, any readers in LA know what club they were at?

Rain to fly into LA next week for MTV awards

Asia’s most celebrated star Rain will fly off to Los Angeles next week to attend this year's MTV Movie Awards, according to his agency on Friday.

An official at J. Tune Entertainment said Rain will depart from Korea on June 3 to attend the 2010 MTV Movie Awards for which he has received an invitation from MTV's headquarters.

The singer and actor has been named one of the five nominees in the "Biggest Badass Star" category for his role as a ninja in Hollywood flick "Ninja Assassin" last year alongside Hollywood blue-chips Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum, Chris Pine and Sam Worthington.

Nominees were selected by fans who cast online votes on MTV's website to choose their favorite 'badass' actor out of 22 potential nominees.

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, has released six studio albums to date and has held several tours throughout Asia and in the U.S. including a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden.

The singer also ventured into acting, starring in several hit television dramas including "Sang Doo! Let's Go To School" (KBS, 2003), "Full House" (KBS, 2004) and later making his big screen debut in Park Chan-wook's surrealist comedy pic "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK."

He made his Hollywood debut in 2008 through the Wachowski Brothers' action flick "Speed Racer." The Korean star reportedly made such a great impression on the famous sibling duo that they offered him the lead role in last year's martial arts flick "Ninja Assassin."

[Star diary, Part 6] ”What did I do on the stage?”

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 Part 5

2009 was an exceptionally tough one for Taeyang (23·real name Dong Young Bae). Managing both Big Bang’s activities in Japan and preparing for his solo album, he got more and more tired both mentally and physically.
I feel last year was just a blank in my life. It was a nervous time, maybe because it was the third year in my singing career.

Kwon Sang-woo banks on his lucky charm

Actor Kwon Sang-woo is hoping his new film “71-Into the Fire” will help him mount a comeback with his fans.

Kwon Sang-woo, 33, was once one of the most eligible bachelors in the country, with a string of hit films and TV shows early in the decade. After seeing his popularity take a hit in recent years, he is now hoping to make a comeback with his role in the new film “71 - Into the Fire.”

In the movie, set to be released on June 16, Kwon stars as Koo Kap-jo, a 17-year-old student soldier fighting against the North Korean army during the 1950-53 Korean War.

But he was almost excluded from the cast.

“I almost wasn’t cast because I’m too old [for the role],”
Kwon said with a laugh at a press conference held earlier this month in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, southern Seoul.

Kim Seung-woo, who plays an officer from the South in the film, said that he, too, had concerns about the difference between Kwon’s real age and that of the character he plays.

“When I heard that Kwon was cast as a character who is the same age as [Choi] Seung-hyun, I was really worried because [Kwon] is around our age,” Kim said.

WOOYOUNG,KHUN,JUNHO @ SHIM SHIM TAPA

Hebergement d'images

In the beginning of the show there was a short skit. Wooyoung played a girl and Shindong a guy, who are watching 2PM on TV, and WY was nagging his "bf" saying stuff like yah, stop eating you pig, and so on.

Later Shindong asks everyone of them try the girl act and say "Oh, you pig~" (Ah~ dwaeji~)

Nichkhun says "Pig" so softly that it doesn't even sound bad.

Wooyoung's catchphrase as of late: "I'm not telling lies". (says basically in every radio show he's on)

Junho gets asked whether they have lots of ajumma fans and he says that during fansign events, they have mothers coming with their daughters, both being fans.

In a recent interview with Rain’s company, his representatives stated, “It is correct that his expected enlistment date is September 28th. However, the Office of Manpower Administration has not sent him an official notice yet.”

They added, “We know that there is an age limit when using school attendance as a reason of postponement…As we look into the situation, if the postponement is approved, we will act accordingly to the law and postpone his enlistment as planned.” The maximum age for postponement is 28. Rain will be 28 on June 25th.

Rain also stated, “As a Korean man, I believe that it is only natural to be dutiful to my country and enlist into military service…I will go within the next year.”

Rain receives army enlistment warrant for 28th September, but enlistment was postponed for next year

Singer actor Rain (27) has received the warrant for army enlistment on 28th September, but due to some legal reasons, it has been postponed till next year.

A JTune Entertainment rep told MyDaily on 28th May, “Rain has received warrant for army enlistment this year on 28th September. But because he is currently taking courses in a DanKook Unversity, due to reasons of his study and schedule, he has applied for the enlistment date to be postponed till next year.”
