In the upcoming KBS2TV drama, ‘Dream High‘, 2PM’s Taecyeon and Tara’s Eunjung have been rumored to be prime candidates for the main roles.
In the drama, ‘Cinderella Sister’, Taecyeon had showed off his acting skills to considerable praise. Eunjung has also received similar views regarding her acting in ‘Coffee House’.
‘Dream High’ is a much talked about collaboration project between Bae Yong Joon and Park Jin Young, with the former expected to produce, plan and even act in it while the latter will train rookies actors in dancing and singing.
The drama, ‘Dream High’, covers the story of success and failures of singers and actors in their road to fame. The theme alone caught the interest of the large entertainment corporations and competition for the main casting roles has begun.
A ‘Dream High’ representative confirmed the high likeliness of 2PM Wooyoung and Taecyeon as the main cast, but the representative emphasized that no contracts have been signed yet.
Another member of the ‘Dream High’ production team said that there will be about 5 main roles in the drama, likely all filled with idol group members.
Rumors of Taekyeon and Wooyoung’s roles have already raised public expectations and interests.
KOREAN POP NIGHT CONCERT 2010
Singapore Expo Hall 2
Last Saturday (23 October 2010)
There were at least a few good reasons why the almost 9,000 fans at the 2.5-hour Korean Pop Night Concert 2010 might not have been as wildly enthusiastic as they were.
Some performances lacked the spontaneity and extra spark that would have made them different from the groups' music videos.
The singers were not pitch-perfect. And one of the groups' lead singer, SHINee's Kim Jong Hyun, did not
But did the 8,700 fans, who carried colourful posters, banners and lightsticks to the event held at the Singapore Expo last Saturday, care?
Not in the slightest. In fact, their eardrum-shattering sing-alongs - even when they probably knew not what they sang - helped it become the biggest K-pop gig here this year.
That, plus the stellar line-up, of course.
Pop-rock quintet FT Island, all dressed in sleek black suits, kicked off the proceedings with three up-tempo numbers and a love ballad, including Bing Bing Bing and Love Love Love.
Rookie boybands The Boss, ZE:A and Infinite showed off their potential with synchronised sleek dance moves that came across a little too rehearsed.
The biggest names of the night - SHINee, Girls' Generation and Big Bang - increased the excitement of the audience, as measured by the decibels of the fans' screams.
When popular K-pop boyband SHINee appeared, the voices from the crowd threatened to drown out those on stage.
Despite the absence of vocalist Kim, the remaining four members put (up) a good performance, singing chart-topping fast hits such as Ring Ding Dong and Lucifer.
The only girl group in the concert, nine-member band Girls' Generation showed off their bodies and slim long legs in tight and short black outfits. Their songs such as Oh!, Gee and Genie were almost beside the point.
Their pitch was off - not that it mattered to the owners of innumerable cameras whose flashes went into overdrive for as long as the girls were on stage.
Then they were gone and chants of 'Big Bang! Big Bang!' echoed throughout the venue, urging the popular hip-hop Korean boyband to speedily come on stage for their debut live performance in Singapore.
When they finally deigned to grace the occasion with their presence, the five of them provided a burst of irrepressible energy, living up to the vibrancy implied in their name.
Performing seven songs, including top hits Haru Haru, Lies and Hands Up, they constantly ran up and down the stage to interact with the audience.
Their overly rehearsed rookie counterparts would do well to take a leaf from their books.

SBS's weekend drama Life Is Beautiful is perhaps most notable for the gay couple at its center, played by Song Chang-eui and Lee Sang-woo. The October 23 broadcast, however, edited out a key moment for them that has brought on a flood of viewer complaints and has angered writer Kim Soo-hyun, who, by the way, is one of the most well-known and respected drama writers in the country.
The scene that should have been aired features the abovementioned couple, Tae-sub and Kyung-soo, speaking their commitment vows to each other in a church. The two had just attended the wedding of Ho-sub (Lee Sang-yoon) and Yeon-joo (Nam Sang-mi), and take a quiet moment to speak their devotion to each other.
Apparently the Jeju Island church where they filmed the scene voiced a complaint and requested that filming be halted. They asked for the producers to remove all dialogue from that part, after which filming proceeded wordlessly. Producers had intended to air the scene as filmed but the result hardly had the intended effect.
The 67-year-old Kim Soo-hyun spoke out her disappointment on Twitter, writing, "I had thought a church was a place where even a murderer could hide without being kicked out, but I suppose I must have read too many novels and watched too many movies." After the broadcast ended, she wrote, "It feels like my face has been wiped with a dirty rag. The flow and rhythm and timing were all a mess." She also uploaded the script to show how the scene was intended. (Translation below.)
Some viewers also voiced their anger, pointing out the hypocrisy of stations having no problem airing adultery and other makjang content, but balking at a positive portrayal of a gay couple vowing their love to each other.
Here's the script excerpt as posted by Kim:
The doors of a church open, and Kyung-soo and Tae-sub enter holding hands. Looking at each other... still holding hands, Tae-sub leads Kyung-soo inside...
Kyung-soo – [Looking at Tae-sub, he quietly follows]
Tae-sub – [Stopping, looking ahead] "...It'll be okay [to go inside] even if I'm not religious, right?"
Kyung-soo – [Looking ahead with him] "I think so."
Tae-sub – "I was envious of Ho-sub."
Kyung-soo – [Looking at Tae-sub] ...
Tae-sub – [Standing face to face, he holds out his hand wearing the ring]
Kyung-soo – [Takes the hand wearing the ring]
Tae-sub – [Two hands clasped] ... [He looks at him]
Kyung-soo – [Looking back] ...
Tae-sub – "...I... am praying." [Looking ahead, with hands held]
Kyung-soo – "Try it out loud. If you don't like it, I'll redo it for you..."
Tae-sub – [Opening his eyes, looking forward] "Until the day we die..."
Kyung-soo – [Looking back]
Tae-sub – "Let us be forever... That's my prayer."
Kyung-soo – [Looking at him] "Then I won't have to redo it... I feel the same way."
Both – [They embrace quietly]

On the 22nd, the amazing Thai designer Thakoon, as well as Marcus Wainwright & David Neville were in attendance at a party at the "10 corso como" in Seoul, Cheongdam-dong. Marcus Wainwright & David Neville are a design team from the company Rag & Bone, known for releasing fashions that are both stylish and practical.
Leading Korean designers, fashion models and other people related to the fashion world attended. F.CUZ’s Jinon and Kan attended as the only invited celebrities.
The designer David Neville saw the F.CUZ members dressed in Rag & Bone’s clothes and praised them with the comment “they look good and have great style”. And that’s not all, other attending models and people in the industry commented warmly on their great style and appearances.
There are high expectations that the F.CUZ comeback in November, with a song by Kim Hyung Seok, will not only bring a 180degree turn to their music but also of course to their style.

9-member Korean girl group SNSD released their 2nd single “Gee” and sold 66,000 copies within the first week. They entered the 11/1 weekly single ranking at #2. A British female group called “Nolans” released a song called “Dancing Sisters” and entered ORICON at #2 for the 12/1 weekly chart of 1980. SNSD is the 2nd female group to accomplish this, it has been 30 years. Aside from Japan, they are the first ever Asian girl group to enter at this rank.
The single “Gee” is the Japanese version of their Korean big hit from January 2009 that also set records. In September, SNSD’s Japanese debut single “GENIE” (First week sales – 45,000/Total sales 97,000) helped them achieve the record of being the first foreign female artist to rank that high (rank #4) for a debut single. “Gee” has already started by exceeding the rank and sales of their debut single “GENIE” and both singles sales are expected to increase.

In the second of a series on the Korean Wave, or hallyu, The Diplomat investigates the popularity of South Korean TV dramas in Taiwan, China and Japan.
Attractive characters and one-of-a-kind storytelling are the key to South Korean TV drama success, according to the Korean culture analysts I’ve spoken to (with some inoffensive Confucian values thrown into storylines for good measure).
As I mentioned last week, Michael Shin, a professor of Asian studies at the University of Cambridge, calls the Korean Wave an ‘interesting puzzle,’ noting that trying to understand its popularity has been made more difficult by the fact that a major component of it, TV shows, have wildly differing national audiences—‘different dramas are popular in different countries.’

Back in June, boy group Code-V made their return to the K-pop scene with Addiction. The group had originally debuted in 2007 under the name Bless, but suffered from poor sales and lack of promotion. Unfortunately, their comeback results in June was sub-par and member Taemin left the group in August. Now, the group has found a replacement for the departed Taemin and they’re preparing for a comeback.
The new member is named 서민호 / Seo Min Ho and he supposedly has great vocals. You can check out his photo below:
No word on when exactly their comeback will be but hopefully this time around they enjoy some success.

I hope they do well this time around, I love them. Also, replacing Taemin with Minho? Methinks they have some SHINee envy...
The ladies and gents of Co-Ed were Wang Biho’s latest victims on the October 24th episode of KBS 2TV’s “Gag Concert.”
Wang Biho’s warmed up his show by jokingly voicing:
“Since you guys sing and dance, you would be students at an arts school. If students like them went to my school, they would immediately be reported to the school dean. The dean would make them shave their heads.”
Wang Biho later scoffed at Co-Ed for the members’ unique nicknames. In particular, he targeted Solid Sungmin (알찬성민) and linked his name to one of Korea’s finest delicacies, pickled crabs. The first two letters of Sungmin’s name (알찬) also means ‘packed with eggs’ – the more eggs a pickled crab has, the better it tastes. Wang Biho teased Solid Sungmin by asking, “Are you a pickled crab?”
Sori and actor Kim Heung Gook also became victims of Wang Biho’s ridicule.source ~ allkpop
you have gone too far this time, Wang-oppa

With the controversy against cable channel Mnet’s decision to hold their year-end awards, “MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards),” in Macau, and the battle of pride ongoing between public broadcast companies, it seems that the singers themselves are also caught in the crossfire as well.
Mnet will be holding the 2010 MAMA on November 28th in Macau, having previously revealed, “We have worked hard to make sure that MAMA is a representative of Korea. Now we will be attempting to make it represent not only Korea, but all of Asia as well. Our first event will be held in Macau, and will then move out into other countries.”
The problem lies in that Korean singers are forced to choose between appearing on MBC’s “Music Core” and SBS’s “Inkigayo” against Mnet’s MAMA.
The two music programs have been careful in making public statements, but SBS has stated, “Our live program, ‘Inkigayo,’ puts the viewers first. Whether or not popular artists perform, we will be airing the program live as planned.”
Regarding allowing artists to perform a pre-recording, the producers gave a negative response.
The representative continued, “Due to some unavoidable circumstances, one or two teams will be performing through a pre-recording, but we absolutely will not allow artists attending MAMA to go through a pre-recording with us. ‘Inkigayo’ will continue like normal.”
One such case is CNBlue. Due to CNBlue’s Jung Yonghwa being an MC for SBS’s Inkigayo, CNBlue is unable to attend the MAMA in theory. In addition, MBC who is currrently adopting a guest MC system will have to tread carefully in appointing their MCs for the week.
MBC representatives added, “Singers have not told us anything in regards to MAMA. There is still a lot of time left, and we’re busy enough preparing for next week’s broadcast.”
Other management agency representatives commented, “Due to Mnet holding their ceremony overseas, artists will not be able to participate in music programs at home. Artists that rejects MAMA will also be met with considerable difficulty in appearing on Mnet programs in the future. Nobody is sure as to what decision to make at this point.”
Mnet representatives stated, “We have nothing confirmed as of yet. We’re not sure whether to take the singers for two nights and three days, or whether to take them all on the afternoon of the Saturday. For now, we will be attempting to solve this with the public broadcast companies. MAMA has a positive purpose / intentions, but we feel that some others are intentionally trying to bring it down.”

In a recent magazine interview, Krystal revealed that her older sister Jessica of SNSD has shown jealously towards f(x)'s leader, Victoria. During the interview, Krystal showed deep affection towards Victoria and said, "Whenever I see leader unnie having a hard time, I want to give her a hug. Besides my family, in this world, unnie is the person I want to protect the most. I wish unnie can be healthy and cherish her own body. Wish I can be there when unnie is sad to comfort her."
The reporter than asked Krystal if Jessica would get jealous of this affection, to which Krystal replied, "She’s already beginning to be jealous of Victoria unnie. She told me, “YA! Victoria is your real sister now?!”
It's not a surprise that Krystal and Victoria are close as they are in the same group and work closely together. However, nothing will break a strong sisterly bond like Jessica and Krystal's. Don't worry Jessica, no one will take Krystal away from you~
