Copying a chant in K-pop ? Nooooo never !

As I was listening to Exo-K/M's song Mama last week, I felt the chanting from the beginning was really familiar to me. Since I am a lazy fuck I didn't look for the original at first, then as I watched the MV for the first time it all came back, it was from this song from a crappy French movie !!!

And the "original" melody felt already familiar, as lydzi pointed it out here.

Copying a song that copies another song, not a problem in K-pop !

[AKP OP-ED] Is T-ara’s member change a way for Kim Kwang Soo to punish T-ara?

In the last 12 months, T-ara have undoubtedly become one of the most successful acts in K-Pop, period. “Roly Poly” was the biggest song of 2011, the group became Triple Crown winners and “Lovey-Dovey” became their fourth consecutive single to top the GAON chart. They also made chart history in Japan, and in December, an official Gallup Poll of the Korean public ranked T-ara as the second ‘Most Outstanding‘ girl group of the year, trailing behind Girls’ Generation, but beating out top-tier superstars like Wonder Girls, 2NE1, and KARA. Additionally, the triple-threat of Hyomin, Eunjung, and Jiyeon, have all become stars in their own right thanks to expansive solo activities that include popular K-dramas, movies, and variety shows.

So, what does Kim Kwang Soo, CEO of T-ara’s agency Core Contents Media, go and do? He decides to expand T-ara to a 9-member group, and then publicly threatens to replace any original members who dare to step out of line.

Lee Hyori: “I Was the #1 Celebrity to Avoid”

Lee Hyori
revealed that in the past, she was the number one celebrity that agencies did not want their celebrities to hang out with. It was during the before-recording portion of the April 8 broadcast of SBS “Jung Jae Hyung and Lee Hyori’s You and I” that she revealed the interesting tidbit. Lee Hyori also stated that she wanted to talk with the guests 2AM about dating.

Jung Jae Hyung asked why Lee Hyori used to be the “celebrity to avoid.” She answered, “They said that I corrupted others.” Lee Hyori explained that the representative example was with her close friend Lee Soo Young. They would go for late night movies or drinks and the agency ordered that Lee Soo Young must stop meeting Lee Hyori.

Lee Hyori then stated, “As a singer or actor/actress I think it is important to gain experience.” Jung Jae Hyung agreed, “How can you write songs without those kind of extreme experiences.”

South Korea government faces media anger

South Koreans go to the polls next week in a vote that is expected to be one of the most closely contested general elections in years.

However, the vote comes in amid a strike joined most recently by seasoned media practitioners from the country's largest television network, the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), who say their freedoms - and thus their work - are being compromised by government interference and control.

They say Lee Myung Bak's administration selects the channels’ senior executives, who in turn prevent reporting that criticises the government.

While everyone does not agree with their sentiment, these media personnel have taken their work and protest online to tell what they say is the "truth".

Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports from Seoul.

Nine Muses & John Park with short rapper, MC SNIPER!

MC Sniper recently posted on his me2day blog, commenting on a couple of embarrassing photos he took with girl group Nine Muses and singer John Park.

On April 5th, the rapper posted, “Ah! This is so frustrating. It’s been a while since I saw my hoobaes. I even wore insoles, but my height is still…” MC Sniper then uploaded another photo with John Park and commented, “John Park is tall too, man… His album sounds great though!”

A less-than-ideal height can at times become a self-esteem killer, especially in the world of celebrities, which seems to be the reason why many fans were sympathetic to MC Sniper’s latest posts. Despite the fact that he looked like he could be younger than both musical acts, his me2day followers were charmed by his cute, innocent reaction.

They encouraged him with comments such as: “Who cares about height, it’s the music that counts,” “Your charisma is still no joke,” and “At least you look cute =D.”

I honestly don't like her new look now (her hair sucks monkeyballs), the boys looked quite awk with her, and she sounded like she's been singing relentlessly for days but I'm still her biggest fan. Congrats on your soft coming out, gurl~

[EDITED: My apologies for the gender inappropriate title. Already revised.]
