MBC 'Infinity Challenge' to possibly return + KBS unionists tentatively agree to end strike

For the past 19 weeks, MBC‘s headline variety program ‘Infinity Challenge‘ has been conspicuously missing. Its absence has served as, perhaps, the most significant reminder of  the ongoing labor strike by MBC workers against the broadcast station’s top brass, its CEO Kim Jae Chul, and the lack of journalistic freedom and integrity.

However, if recent rumors are to be believed, the gaping hole in MBC’s Saturday evening lineup could possibly be filled in the weeks to come. Unconfirmed reports state that the labor union and MBC are sitting down to discuss a solution, led by MBC’s variety department, which has been the biggest loser of the whole ordeal with ratings dropping and viewers leaving for competing networks.

In the case of another MBC variety, ‘We Got Married‘, it has recently confirmed that viewers can expect to see a new episode on June 16th due to the efforts of temporary crew members. This leaves only ‘Infinity Challenge’ as the lone variety program still maintaining its off-air status.

The cast and crew of ‘Infinity Challenge’ have also been reported to have picked up press passes for the upcoming 2012 Summer Olympics in London and working on clearing out their other schedules, further fueling the speculation about a possible return.

Very skeptical about the mbc stuff, if it's actually true then hopefully any agreement will be strongly in their favor.

Has Manufactured K-Pop Run Its Course?

Fans cheer wildly at a concert by JYJ in Barcelona, Spain in October last year

June 10, 2010 was a momentous day for Korean pop music. A large-scale live concert of K-pop stars like Girls' Generation, Super Junior, SHINee and f(x) was staged in Paris, and some had high hopes that this would mean the Korean Wave had splashed beyond Asia into the wider world.

There have since been some 260 K-pop concerts in the West, from New York via Barcelona and Berlin to Santiago de Chile, according to Korea Creative Contents Agency. But is K-pop really moving in the right direction?

Some industry sources believe the focus on manufactured bands is losing its luster.
Singer Kim Chang-wan said, "Those who are leading the Korean Wave are professionally trained bands manufactured by mega management agencies. Most of them sing the same way in similar productions and tend to launch their careers abroad. Their goals are far too commercial."

YG Entertainment responds to Ji Hyun Woo’s love confession to Yoo In Na

Rising actor Ji Hyun Woo recently made the headlines when he bravely confessed his love for fellow actress Yoo In Na at a fanmeeting for their drama, ‘Queen Inhyun’s Man‘. After keeping silent on the issue, Yoo In Na’s management agency, YG Entertainment, released a brief statement to the press.

“It looks like Ji Hyun Woo made a rather rash statement,” YG carefully announced. “After discussion, it was decided that it would be best to not release an official statement on our position.”

Netizens commented, “Ji Hyun Woo was indeed rash,” “From Yoon In Na’s stand point, it probably caught her off-guard,” and “They’re both celebrities so it wasn’t a good way to go about it.”

In related news, it has been recently announced that Ji Hyun Woo will be enlisting in the army in July.

Hero Angeles Blames Sandara Park for His Failed Showbiz Career

His slow decline from stardom started when his former on-screen partner Sandara Park returned to her native Korea to start her own career, former actor Hero Angeles said.

Even during their more celebrated times as a love team, constant quarrels plagued their relationship off-cam, forcing them to put on affection for their throngs of fans back then.

Well that's the problem, Hero. While Sandara's individuality defined her career in the Philippines, your career was only defined by your love team relationship with Sandara. So don't blame her if you were not able to stand out in the competitive Philippine showbiz industry, where being unseen for just a day makes you a has-been. End rant.

VIXX hold creative contest featuring 7th member ROVIX

VIXX has started a contest for fans to remake the group’s robot symbol ‘ROVIX‘ (below), which was initially created by famous pop artist Charles Jang.

The contest launched as VIXX fans sent their versions of ‘ROVIX’ one by one on VIXX’ Twitter, and at the center of it all was VIXX rapper, Ravi.

Before the fans began to send in their drawings, footage of Ravi drawing ROVIX using graffiti as his art technique was released. The footage showed Ravi perfectly re-creating the VIXX symbol like a professional. Fans became inspired by him and started creating their own versions of ROVIX.

The agency commented, “The contest for the ROVIX drawing will end on the 19th at midnight, the day before ROVIX’s birthday on the 20th. The event is being held on VIXX’ official fan cafe.

If you would like to participate in this special event, visit their official fan cafe and submit your very own version of ROVIX.

The 1st place winner will receive special edition ROVIX shoes!
