B.A.P to release a new single on the 23rd of October

B.A.P will be releasing a new single on the 23rd, and the group has released teaser photos for leaderYongguk and main vocal Daehyun. The teaser images were released today. In the photos, Yongguk is wearing a viking-style helmet with a hockey-style mask, giving the camera his trademark playful smirk. Daehyun, nicknamed the ‘Busan Won Bin’ due to his looks, is wearing a spangled hoodie along with boxing gloves. Even though only one eye is fully visible, his gaze is intense, showcasing a completely different look from Yongguk’s playful aura. Daehyun’s cape was made by the same designer as the sparkly sweatsuit from the drama ‘Secret Garden‘. TS Entertainment has revealed that the concept of the images is ‘hipster’, stating, “We hope that they will lead a new culture that the public wants this time as well with the ‘hipster’ concept.” The word ‘hipster’ traces back to America in the 1940s, and is a word used to describe people who do not follow the general public trend and make their own styles. Before the song will be released on the 23rd, the remaining B.A.P members will be paired for their own teaser release.

SNSD attacked for slumming it on streaming lives instead of real TV

K-Pop girl group, Girls' Generation, recently gave a live concert on streaming video site Nico Nico Douga, but it has caused some criticism on the web. The event, held at Nico Nico Douga's live house, 'Nico Farre,' was a collaboration between both sides.

"Girls' Generation have typically been selling at a very high level, but then they changed course and did a live streaming performance on Nico Nico Douga. Among K-Pop industry workers, something like Nicodou, when compared to television, is pretty low in status. The types of offers that these girls got before had been coming in steadily but recently had stopped. During the planning stages of this collaboration with Nicodou, even the people working there were surprised by their participation. Some cynical people there said, 'Thanks to the Takeshima Problem, they've stepped down to working with Nico Nico Douga [instead of TV],'" said one music writer.

Many netizens have agreed with this sentiment, writing online, "Their level and pride have really fallen," "They've fallen this far??" and "They were selling at a high level, what happened suddenly?!" among other things.

Despite the Takeshima Problem which has enveloped Japan-Korea relations, and the obvious decline of K-Pop, it's possible that Girls' Generation would continue selling at a good level. Their recent single, "Oh!" even managed to get the top spot on Oricon's Weekly Singles Chart. It's incomprehensible to say that they've "fallen down," we thought...

"No, despite getting #1, comparing their initial sales to that of their previous works, it was a 30% drop. Their single before, 'Paparazzi' sold 89,000 in its first week, but 'Oh!' managed just 63,000. They've lost their previous momentum. In addition to that, because of the Takeshima Problem, the appearance of K-Pop on television has been somewhat discouraged. It wasn't a strategic move to do the Nicodou live, you could tell their hearts weren't even in the performance," said the music writer.

Gangnam Style out of the most viewed music chart due to YouTube changes

YouTube changes search to rank based on how long users watch videos, not clicks

If you have been searching for any YouTube videos today, you may have been seeing the results of an update to how the website ranks content and determines what most closely matches what you're looking for. Google has announced that it is expanding changes introduced in August to how video discovery across all of search, so that videos get higher rankings based on how long viewers are engaged — not how many clicks a video gets. The difference is that videos that simply manage to attract a click through thanks to its title or preview but fail to keep users watching won't be promoted in search. In addition, the update to the algorithm will take into account how long users' overall YouTube visits are. This means that videos will get higher rankings if users not only watch it in its entirety, but if they continue on to stay on YouTube and watch more videos. The change is a logical one to focus on bringing users content that keeps them entertained and interested, while keeping them on YouTube. It also fits in well with Google's push to improve the relevancy of search results across the board.

[BREAKING] Conflicts between Lee Michelle & YG Entertainment?

A rumor has been circulating in the media that Lee Michelle, former ‘K-Pop Star‘ contestant and member of SuPearls, may be experiencing some conflict with YG Entertainment.

According to an initial post by Sports Chosun, insiders in the industry are said to have revealed that the singer and the agency seem to be in conflict due to differences of opinion, and that Michelle has not been showing up at the agency.

On the rumor, YG Entertainment is reported to have commented, “We cannot reveal in detail about the incidents that occur before debut. For now, please keep an eye out with interest.”

This is definitely NOT surprising. She probably got fed up with all the cultural appropriation/racism in YGE. Poor SuPearls though!

ABC’s ‘Nightline’ Calls Girls’ Generation ‘Hottest Act in K-Pop’

On October 15th, “Nightline”, an American nightly news program on the channel ABC, ran a story highlighting K-Pop, from PSY’s “Gangnam Style” to Girls’ Generation, calling them “The all girl pop craze sweeping the globe.”

Scenes of fans waving pink hearts greeting Girls’ Generation in New York last October for “SMTOWN LIVE in NEW YORK” were shown as “Nightline” begins to explain K-Pop beyond the success of “Gangnam Style”. “Nightline”‘s piece explores the K-Pop industry through SM Entertainment, and even went into the company’s offices for a behind-the-scenes look at the training process. The reporter for “Nightline” singled out Girls’ Generation, saying, ”The hottest act, a nine member girl group called Girls’ Generation.”

Clips from other SM artists’ music videos from Super Junior, f(x), and EXO were shown, as well as Girls’ Generation’s music videos including “Genie” and “The Boys”, where the reporter referenced Girls’ Generation’s chart topping success.
