TRUE LOVE IS DEAD: Kai and Jennie Break Up

Three-and-a-half weeks ago, Omonians of all nations, cultures and sexual orientations (except straight men who, lbr, do not comment here) rang in 2019 with festive cheer thanks to the journalistic integrity of Dispatch, breaking the news that King of Dance Kai was dating Queen of Lazy Jennie (I kid!): ((BREAKING) (CONFIRMED) SHE'S NO LONGER SOLOLOLOLO: KAI AND JENNIE ARE DATING!

In a scandal that did not even lost as long as my Pelosi's Government shut down, it is with GREAT REGRET THAT I ANNOUNCE THAT TRUE LOVE IS DEAD. Kai and Jennie have broken up. The news has been confirmed by SM Entertainment themselves (once again beating YG to the punch, HA!).

On January 25, SM Entertainment revealed, “It is true that Kai and Jennie have recently parted ways.”

The agency did not reveal the time or reason for their breakup. However, according to a previously published report, Kai and Jennie have decided to maintain their original senior-junior relationship. The report revealed that both were focused on their work and chose this decision for their respective groups and fans.

The report continued, “Kai and Jennie will do their best in their respective fields. They’ve agreed to support each other.”

OMONIANS, what do you think the REAL reason is? Is Kai a player and grew bored? Did Jennie want to better empathize with the message of Solo when she "performs it? Could they actually be telling the truth? Please, idly gossip below.

Shannon opens up about living in the dungeon, says she's leaving MBK & Korea soon

On January 24, Shannon answered some questions from fans via Instagram. One of her fans asked if she has plans to leave Korea.

Shannon replied, “Unfortunately, I actually do. I love Korea but I feel like I want to be able to be more creative and write songs that I can really connect to and just be more carefree since I know you guys are going to be there with me every step of the way, which I am very thankful for.”

She continued, “So for everyone asking and who have been patiently waiting: No, I am not having a comeback. I am leaving my company very very soon.

Another fan asked her, “Is living in the dungeon scary?”

Flashback Friday

Happy Friday! Thank you to everyone who voted for these Flashback Friday posts for the Best of Omona last week. I appreciate it so much! Every week I check out the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s see who was on top for the 4th week of January, 2014. 5 years now! The top three were posted before, so this time we’ll see some live stages. Everyone looks so good this week!

#3 TVXQ! “Something”
I remember the live stages of this song the most, because of the choreography with the microphones. Such impressive microphone cord choreography! I loved the styling this era so much! It’s definitely my most favorite looks from them. So handsome! Here’s their comeback stage on Music Core. Fan chants sound so good!

Cory Hong leaves 24K, Sungoh expected to return after military service

24K has announced a change to their member lineup.

On January 25, the group made an announcement on their official Twitter regarding members Cory and Sungoh.

Collapse )

I just got to see 24K for the first time last year so this is a bummer. Not surprising that he's focusing on producing since he was doing that + writing for the group already. 24K have that UKISS disease so once Sungoh rejoins, he'll be the only original member left in the group.

Baby Pudu Named After K-Pop Star Makes Debut at Los Angeles Zoo

Fans of a Korean pop star have raised more than $2,000 to name a baby deer at the Los Angeles Zoo after their favorite doe-eyed singer.

The zoo’s new baby pudu was named Haechan after a member of K-pop group NCT and its two subgroups, NCT 127 and NCT Dream.

The southern pudu made its media debut Thursday, though he has previously been on public display after he was born Dec. 19.

Donors typically name animals born at the zoo. But after tweeting about the newborn pudu, the zoo realized Haechan’s fans had long thought the 18-year-old looked like the tiny deer that’s native to South America.

Rare mystery thriller involving religious cult to hit screens next month

A rare mystery thriller built around the story of an imaginary covert Buddhist cult will hit local screens next month, its distributor said Friday.

"Svaha," a Sanskrit term used in Buddhism meaning "amen," is the latest from director Jang Jae-hyun of the 2015 box office hit "The Priests" about Catholic exorcisms.

Also written by the director himself, the new Korean film depicts another religion, a secret hybrid religious cult heavily influenced by Buddhism, known as Deer Park.

Preview for "Romance is a Bonus Book"

Lee Na Young makes her return to dramaland after a nine-year hiatus in "Romance Is a Bonus Book", the tvN rom-com about a love story that unfolds at a publishing company.

Lee Na Young plays Kang Dan Yi, a has-been star copywriter who is just too overqualified to become employed. Lee Jong Suk plays Cha Eun Ho, a cultural icon who has made a name for himself in the writing community as a prodigy. He’s also known Lee Na-young’s character for years, and to her, he’s that “familiar dongsaeng.” Despite the fact that she’s struggling with failing to find a job and facing society as a divorced woman, Kang Dan Yi continues to put her all into her life. Other characters include Ji Seo Joon (Wi Ha Joon), a stranger who suddenly appears in Kang Dan Yi’s life to save her from the rain one day with an umbrella, and Song Hae Rin (Jung Yoo Jin), who has eyes for no one but Cha Eun Ho.

The publishing company is a collection of characters in its own right: Kim Jae Min (Kim Tae Woo), the boss who rubber-bands between being a cool guy and a nagging old man; Go Yoo Sun (Kim Yoo Mi), a workaholic “ice witch”; Bong Ji Hong (Jo Han Chul), a veteran editor with a passionate heart; Seo Young Ah (Kim Sun Young), a realist working mom; and more.

Directed by Lee Jung Hyo (Life on Mars) and written by I Need Romance series writer Jung Hyun Jung, "Romance Is a Bonus Book" premieres Saturday, January 26 on tvN.
