in today's WTF news: random youtubers ask for donations to attend AMA's to see BTS

In the past two days, two Youtubers (BRISxLIFE and TheJessLyfe) have been asking their fans to donate to their respective Gofundme pages so they could go to the AMA's and see BTS. In news that just blew my mind, both of these Youtubers reached their goals within a few days. Let's take a closer look at these two youtubers.

BRISxLIFE

Who?: from California, does reaction videos, uploaded his first BTS video in September, has 41k subscribers
How much he's asking for: $800, has raised $860 so far plus around $210 on Paypal
Why?: I'm trying to go meet BTS at the AMA's November 19th. The funds that you will be donating will be used to get the best seats available. The goal is to make an EPIC vlog so I can show you guys on my youtube channel (youtube.com/brisxlife). Tickets are going fast and if we can reach our goal by Monday the 13th I should be able to get some great seats. You guys have already shown amazing support for me and my youtube channel this will mean the world to me if I can share this vlog with you. I greatly appreciate the help. Thank you. #Brisxlifejoinsbts (from his Gofundme)

He also uploaded a video explaining the whole thing.

Apparently when he uploaded his first BTS video he said that he wanted to go to a concert if they ever hold on in the US (so he's gonna buy tickets to the AMA's because that's apparently a BTS concert). He wants to get seats close to the stage to try and make it backstage and meet them. Yes, you might be wondering if this dude has never heard of security before or if he has no idea how these shows with tons of celebs work. He wants to vlog his whole experience at the AMA's for his fans. He literally says that the goal of this is to get a LIT VLOG of him trying to meet BTS, especially his fave Rapmonster.

TheJessLyfe

Who?: from the US currently living in Germany, does reaction videos, has 84k subscribers
How much she's asking for: 2500€, has raised €2578 so far (only on Gofundme, she has a Paypal account as well)
Why?: Okay! So you guys started advocating on Twitter this morning for me to start this Gofundme page to get me to the AMAs in TWO FREAKIN' WEEKS, to meet BTS... o_o As some of you put it, you want me to be the "lamb" for the Jesslyfers. I feel dirty doing this, I just want y'all to know lol. ANYWAY! So I priced everything out. The flight from Germany to LA from the 17th to the 20th would be $897, I just rounded it to $900 and the ticket... *ahem* the ticket, to get the required access into the AMAs to meet BTS will be... *drum roll*... $1600 *winces*. Yes. Sixteen Hundred. One Thousand Six Hundred (I feel like I said that somewhere before *rubs chin*) So if you all really want me to do this, I would be honored to go out there and meet BTS on behalf of all of us. BUT you have to keep in mind, it's not guaranteed that I'll meet them but I'm going to do everything I can to make it happen! (from her Gofundme)

She also uploaded a video explaining everything, basically saying the same stuff that BRISxLIFE told his viewers. However she blames her fans for this, they apparently told her to go to the AMA's and meet BTS on behalf of all of them. You may want to roll your eyes now.

How do we feel about this OMONA? Would you rather support random Youtubers and donate to their Gofundme pages so they'll be able to go to an Award show and film a stupid video for you to see (aka nothing will change for you or the world), or donate to the BTS LOVE MYSELF UNICEF campaign to end violence against children and teens?

Wat

Like I can understand if it was for something significant like when fans of I think Big Bang or BAP crowd-funded tickets for a cancer patient but for some rando youtubers?

Your money I guess
happydirections 12th-Nov-2017 08:33 pm (UTC)
meh, if that's how people wanna spend their money than that's on them i guess. not something i would do since i'd rather invest it in myself or something i care about i've seen some people who contributed say that they've also donated to the unicef campaign so that's good. i don't care too much about this unless it's going to a horrible person or cause.
reader17 12th-Nov-2017 08:39 pm (UTC)
I don't know how I feel, if that is how people want to spend their money then I guess I am okay with it. But I have to agree I would rather them give to the Love Yourself campaign. If they are doing both then that is very nice of them. Now I am going to sound mean but if I had extra money I think I would be donating to their campaign and spending it on their albums and merchandise the stuff they get a profit from instead of a random youtuber. But maybe they have followed this youtuber for a long time and feel like they are friends and want to help them.

all young fans are gonna be susceptible to being used or conned for other people's gain -- I remember when 1D was the bait group for clicks but like... armys have got to be smarter than this lmao. the youtubers get a free ticket and get to attend an awards show on THEIR dime.

I also hate that the bris guy titles all of his videos "black guy reacts to bts *insert music video/performance here*
jazzygyu 12th-Nov-2017 11:55 pm (UTC)
I also hate titles like that. Like unless you are gonna make a video about anti blackness which I doubt most youtubers would cuz armys would attack them, why does it matter what race you are, you opinions on someone isn't more valid because of your race...

People are stupid istg... I mean, do whatever you want with your money but you're still stupid.

Reaction videos are a plague. Tons of new channels in a short period of time all suddenly reacting to BTS like it isn't obvious they're doing it for the money, yet you have all these people falling for it every single time lmao.

Ugh I honestly hate reaction videos sfm. They're useless and all they do is ruin search results.

This whole mess has got me so mad, I can't even believe it. I'm annoyed at the youtubers for scamming naive teenagers but also annoyed at the fandom for continously throwing money and attention at any and every jackass who calls bts's name, no matter how transparent an attempt at garnering fame/clicks it is. Like people who still suck up to jeff whatshisface and give his desperate tweets the time of day.

The bris guy is epecially bad because he doesn't even know anyone in the group aside from namjoon (and i think yoongi) and he only knows them as rap monster and suga. Up to three days ago he was asking if /hoseok/ is the leader of the group.

Jess has liked them for a while but her slyly trying to claim her fans ~made~ her set up a gofundme account (like she couldn't just not do it and happily announce that she'll watch it on tv/the internet like everybody else) had my eyes rolling out of my head. I knew she wasn't shit when she said she liked Papillion 😒

Yeah people can what they want with their money, but fucking hell
normanikordei 12th-Nov-2017 08:46 pm (UTC)
"I knew she wasn't shit when she said she liked Papillion" yelling omg

In the grand scheme of things, fans helping other fans get to shows is way better than, say, those Markson fans putting a blessing on a monument, or fans gifting Jin a new iphone he doesn't even want.

I don't really see a reason to make a fuss about this (except that one guy being confused might result in some serious drama).
happydirections 12th-Nov-2017 08:52 pm (UTC)
those Markson fans putting a blessing on a monument

do i even wanna know?
haixiao 12th-Nov-2017 08:46 pm (UTC)
i mean i kind of have no room to speak bc my friend bought my kcon la ticket this yr (i didnt ask him to btw lmao) but like...if you wanna do smth as ridiculous as go to the AMAs jus for bts or drop hundreds of dollars on a kpop concert trip in general then like...do it yourself. i can't imagine lacking this much shame and asking random ppl for money to do smth i don't absolutely need to do.

Any nugu can raise money for a stupid reason these days. Jess made it sound like she didn't want to go and her fans were forcing her to go rme. I remember she posted her paypal account on Twitter before the BBMAs as a "joke" and asked her followers to donate so that she could attend the awards and some people didn't get the joke and actually donated.

I don't get this "i'm broke but here have $10 so you could live the sweet life and meet my faves in my place while I get nothing in return" but to each their own.

I unfollowed her on Twitter bc it was getting obnoxious.

People are so dumb istg

Forgot to mention that she is also on Patreon and quit her real life job to do Youtube full-time but her content is so boring. Her reactions are fun but paying her just for that is a bit too much and she's barely updating anyway.

from what i saw of her bts reactions she spends most of them yelling about the tiniest glance or gesture as though the members were stripping in front of her and giving her the nastiest lapdance of the century... like alright you find them attractive but chill please, it's getting weird
timetobegin 12th-Nov-2017 08:50 pm (UTC)
Mostly I'm just insanely jealous that these people can ask for money to chase their dreams and actually get it like...... that's the kind of charity that a regular peasant like me isn't ever gonna get. All people like me get is anguish and dispair on a daily basis lol
normanikordei 12th-Nov-2017 08:58 pm (UTC)
start doing bts reaction videos before the bubble bursts
sanctuairee 12th-Nov-2017 09:03 pm (UTC)
i can't imagine being so shameless that i'd ask people to give me money so i could do something so extraneous, and all they get in return is a vlog. the donors can do what they want with their own money, but why this?

jesslyfe claiming her fans are forcing her to do this is so.. ugh at least own up to it
seulgibear 12th-Nov-2017 09:03 pm (UTC)
everyone paypal me money for exo's concerts in 2 weeks. i need around 10k. tnx appreciate it x
baekpedaling 13th-Nov-2017 02:55 am (UTC)
i'm poor but here's $0.50. have fun!
existingisfunny 12th-Nov-2017 09:07 pm (UTC)
i recognize thejesslyfe because i've watched her kcon rants. anyone know why she lives in germany?

where people waste their money isn't up to me but yuck at taking advantage of young fans

i'm curious to what they plan to do/say when they "meet" bts

edit: lmao the jokes remind me of dashcon tumblr posts

>>…so i need y’all to donate $20,000 to my paypal account for ProblematiCon 2k14

>>finally, a con all of my faves will be at

Afaik she mentioned that she visited Germany a few years ago with/for her boyfriend and liked the country so much she decided to move there permanently.

This is nuts.
pinklunacy 12th-Nov-2017 09:14 pm (UTC)
wat. the fuck. Either I have too little faith in humanity or people are too gullible but what happens if their little trips fall through for some reason. Are they gonna refund everyone? But as it's been said, people are free to spend their money however they want. I'd just rather get myself a shit ton of beauty products and a new pair of shoes #lovemyself
