Where are you guys watching this? Also the teasers have been killing all my hype, but I'll still watch
showminomoney 14th-Mar-2018 02:40 pm (UTC)
fastdrama! it's also on VIU if you have access to that (though I think it's only for premium users right now)

Go check it out! It's pretty good so far!

I had to make this post already because OH MY GOD!!! I'm already very into this show. And I want to complain about how all the synopsis-es(?) I could find don't even come close to how complicated the plot actually is so far. And no matter how many times it's stated that this is based on the Korean movie Untold Scandal, there's no denying that they took a whole bunch of queues from the American movie Cruel Intentions (all of which are based on the French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses) Anyway, moving on...

I love our main trio of friends. They're all rich kids who come from broken and messed up families, who have formed their own little found family. They're so supportive and they care for each other deeply, it's so sweet. There's a whole lot of sexual tension there, but there's definitely more underlying romantic tension too. And I am absolutely devastated that this show isn't going to be just about them, because they are great, there's so much story to be told there... Soo Ji and Si Hyun are clearly in love with each other. CLEARLY. They're just denying themselves.. out of fear of losing their friendship? I'm heart broken about it. They have such amazing intense chemistry, I love their characterizations and how well the actors are able to give such nuanced performances.

The parents having their own drama is interesting, albeit not as interesting as the kids' thing. I just like that it helps build this whole messed up world that they're all in. It gives us a little bit of insight on why they're so horrible to their kids, and that they're not just the cliche "I'm doing this because I love you and want the best for you" kind of thing. Parents can be selfish and have awful motivations too.

Tae Hee and her friend had maybe 20 mins if screen time at most? I don't really have much to say, because they didn't give Tae Hee's much to do. Not gonna lie though, 4 episodes in and I've already formed a bias against her, because I really like Soo Ji. lol I know how this show will end though, so I'm just gonna... sit here and be sad and worried about how they'll try to make Soo Ji unlikable or how they'll try to sell Tae Hee as the better girl...

"Soo Ji and Si Hyun are clearly in love with each other. CLEARLY. They're just denying themselves."

YES! I feel like Si Hyun is willing to try it but Soo Ji keeps rejecting him because she is afraid of it not working and losing his friendship which I understand but GIRL, he's your best friends, he's hot, he's rich, maybe give it a shot. Also they guys does date are always these older rich guys that treat her like she's inferior.

Also I agree that our trio is way more interesting than the parents and the good girls. I could watch an entire drama about the trio. I don't know why Tae Hee was advertised as the female lead cause so far she has minimal screen time. Her friends mom is getting just as much scenes as Tae Hee.

Stray observations:

- "The only English words Se Joo knows is Love and Sex"
- The cinematography is fantastic! It's very well shot and produced, I love the production design and the styling for the characters.
- The trio have a neon sign in their clubhouse/bar place thing that says "Les Liaisons dangereuses" :)
- I like how much they scheme together. I'm all for incredibly complicated revenge plots.
- We got like 6 almost kisses between Soo Ji and Si Hyun. If they never kiss, even just once, I will literally implode.
- The girl playing Kyung Joo is kind of.. a bad actress.. and now I can't really tell if Joy is bad too, or if it's just because they only have each other to bounce off of right now..
- Literally laughed out loud at the twist about Kyung Joo's mom and why she wasn't invited to the graduation
- Woo Do Hwan, Moon Ga Young, and Kim Min Jae are so incredibly attractive and charming.
modestgoddess79 14th-Mar-2018 03:32 pm (UTC)
I totally missed the neon sign

the cinematography is good but some of the scene transitions are jarring

THEY BETTER KISS

OT3 are amazing together
dirrtypony 14th-Mar-2018 03:26 pm (UTC)
i am Joy biased but i think shes doing very well! but i agree that the main trio are more compelling right now but once the main scheming happens im sure Joy will have more to do. But man the chemistry between si hyun and soo ji is fire. its going to be hard to root for him and joy when their chemistry is so strong.

I'm enjoying it so far. They definitely watched Cruel Intentions before writing this which is what led to the potential step sibling angle.
I really enjoy Sooji but I can already see them making her character more sexually innocent than she should be. Like she had 2 ex boyfriends but I don't think they ever showed her even kissing them, unlike Shihyun who seems to kiss like its his only source of oxygen. If they make her the typical Kdrama witch we all hate I'm going to be so disappointed. Both of her male friends are in love with her but she's in love with Shihyun. Yet she keeps dating these manipulative older guys. She's clearly got some trauma based around her mother divorcing her dad and him going to jail so she is afraid of losing people.

Shihyun making out with KyungJoo's mother, I died, he has so many mommy issues. He flirts with his teachers then at a club full of flirtatious women he gives his attention to the emotionally distraught older woman. He just need a noona he can take care of, help me I've fallen.

Sejoo's family physically beating him, and it looks like the female relatives were not allowed to sit at the table! WTH. Also Sejoo clearly loves Sijoo but he knows she's in love with Shihyun. I love the friendship, he runs to Sijoo when she's upset, lets Shihyun stay in his apartment, takes the blame for Shihyun damanging the car. I hope he keeps geting character development.

The only adult I enjoy watching is KyungJoo's mother. She tries so hard to fit in with the other mothers and she obviously loves her daughter so much but I can see how her being a beauty is an issues in a loooks focused society.

Taehee, I'm still not 100% clear on what her deal is with her parents. Her mother abandoned her? But is still supporting her financially? And she's a forever single. Which I guess is this drama's equivalent of being virtuous but to me its not enough cause I think a 19 year old never having a boyfriend is not that big a deal, especially in Korea where they have such long hours of school and tutoring. This is definitely another example of MBC not being able to quite go there. Like all of the trio should be sexually active or damn near and Taehee and Kyungjoo should be more obviously not sexually active.

I have a lot of feeling and I'll probably be in this post replying to everyone.

People saying they don't want to watch it cause they worry it will be like BOF and Heirs, give it a try.

WOODOHWAN IS RIDICULOUSLY SEXY!!! Seriously he looks like Seo KangJoon but with charisma and acting talent. New bias for a reason.
dirrtypony 14th-Mar-2018 05:33 pm (UTC)
but isnt Sooji supposed to be a bitch? i mean if this is taking queues from cruel intentions, Kathryn's character was a massive bitch who knew she had a hold over Sebastian and used that. This show is obviously a bit different since they showed how much she actually cares for shi hyun but i expect their to be drama once he starts to actually fall for taehee.

kiwijoy 14th-Mar-2018 03:42 pm (UTC)
it's fun. i'm rooting for tae hee, i live whenever she side eyes shi hyun. i hope she doesn't easily fall for shi hyun, don't be persuaded by his good looks!!!

i find soo ji really interesting and sympathetic right now.

I hope Taehee doesn't fall too fast for Shihyun either, but based on the next preview, it already seems like she's a bit smitten? Although, I do like that they're making her aggressive towards him (pointing out the setup on the bus, throwing him to the ground in the preview), etc, but I wish she'd resist more (who knows, maybe she does) OR also play him, too. Haha.

im so excited to watch this this weekend!!!

Woo Do Hwan tag! 🙌 Bless
Thanks for the post, OP! I need to watch the last episode still and then I will be back.
mewaqua1 14th-Mar-2018 07:40 pm (UTC)
wasn't planning on checking it out but boy i'm glad i did!! idk lots of kdramas lately haven't been my taste and joy's first drama wasn't my thing but i saw so much stuff going around monday on twitter about the first ep that i caved just casually checked it and wow i'm won over, fully into this! woo do hwan is so damn good and bless his visuals, i'm not surprised at all @ everyone wanting a piece of that cake haha. the trio is really amazing, i love how intense the plot is and how complicated all the relationships are, great setting and def quite enough material not to make the drama boring after 5-6 ep. i'm probably one of the only ones not really shipping sihyun/sooji (like i do get 100% why everyone does but bc i know the plot is not gonna go that way i just didn't feel it as strong??) can't say a lot about joy so far bc her appearance wasn't too big yet but so far so good for me! i can't wait for next week!!! ugh going back to on air drama's is gonna kill me so hard ;;; i wanna binge watch this whole show now already!!
sweetestbliss1 15th-Mar-2018 02:03 pm (UTC)
I definitely wasn't planning on checking out this drama either, and didn't know much or pay attention about it at all until I saw the post with the teasers on here. So glad I decided to watch it! The promotional poster was definitely one of the draws (the "dark" theme of it). Like you, a lot of the dramas lately haven't been my taste, either. I don't think I've watched a drama at all this year. The last one I watched was "While You Were Sleeping."

Anyways, after watching the teasers, I KNEW I was going to be hooked (let's be real, I was already hooked) and told myself that I shouldn't watch it right away...yeah, that didn't turn out well. As someone mentioned already, this is a crack drama and even though I know it's going to be torture and I should wait a few episodes to pile up so I can binge watch, I know I won't be able to resist and will watch each episode as they come out. Hahah sigh.
timetobegin 14th-Mar-2018 07:44 pm (UTC)
This is off to a good start for me. I like how they kept the tension and darkness from the original story in there. The main trio is so miserable and traumatized and destructive and it's nice seeing them plot against their parents and making their own little family (Sejoo is already my underrated fave). I hope they keep this in balance with the (upcoming) romance and the more general comedic bits!
kaykaydelight 15th-Mar-2018 12:31 pm (UTC)
I’m obsessed with this show and it’s killing me have to wait till next week for new episodes. I love the dynamic between the trio and how they’re so supportive with each other while also being mischievous. While I I like Soo Ji I’m rooting for Tae Hee and Si Hyun. They haven’t gotten a lot of screen time yet but I love their interactions so far and how Tae Hee is trying to ignore him while he’s trying to woo her. I know a lot of people think Soo Ji will be thrown under the boss and made the witch in favor of Tae Hee but I feel like her character is more nuanced then that and she’ll find happiness in the end. Just not with Si Hyun.
sweetestbliss1 15th-Mar-2018 02:16 pm (UTC)
I'm dying to watch the next episodes, too! I don't think I've ever wished for Mondays to come quicker than I am now. Haha.

I also love the dynamic between the trio, and although this is wishful thinking, hope that they are able to maintain it for as long as possible. Taehee will inevitably come between them, but, yeah. I like Soo Ji, too, and part of me really likes Soo Ji/Shi Hyun, probably because he seems SO into her and she's trying to act as if she doesn't feel the same about him, but I like Taehee/Shihyun a tad more. I just hope they don't make Taehee fall for him too fast, especially since in the last ep they made her act all uninterested in him.

Also hope that they keep with the dark theme of this drama and don't make Soo Ji into the stereotypical spiteful bitch. Andddddd I want to know what's up with Taehee and the car scene? Why was she bleeding? Who left her? Why does she have PTSD from it?? It looks like they're going to make that a key element for Taehee and Shihyun to bond?

Please give us more substance and if it's going to turn into a makjang, at least make it GOOD. I want real heartbreak and drama. THANKSSSSSSS.
greywonderland 15th-Mar-2018 04:17 pm (UTC)
honestly the plot being as ridiculous as it is makes me like it.. at first I was like wtf is this but now after 4 episodes I am loving this
sweetestbliss1 16th-Mar-2018 01:48 pm (UTC)
Is it just me or does the actress who plays Kyung Joo's mom look like Krystal from f(x)? Like, legit, that's how Krystal will probably look when she's older!
modestgoddess79 16th-Mar-2018 02:27 pm (UTC)
now that you point it out, I can see it
sweetestbliss1 16th-Mar-2018 02:32 pm (UTC)
I'm commenting on this thread way too much, but......

It would totally be interesting if Taehee ends up helping them in their manipulation scheme against Ki Young somehow. Maybe something like, Taehee finds out how much of a jerk Ki Young is and decides to help them get back at him by stringing him along?? I think that would be interesting! And in the process, Shihyun falls for her and saves her from some kind of danger she ends up getting into because she's trying to play Ki Young. Hahah. I'm getting WAYYY too ahead of myself here. And obviously, I've watched too many dramas.
modestgoddess79 16th-Mar-2018 02:33 pm (UTC)
that would be interesting and give Taehee more agency than just falling for Shihyun and being a victim of their scheming
