Future Of “MIXNINE” Final Group Remains Unclear

Plans for the final group from “MIXNINE” are still uncertain, with industry sources saying the group is not currently preparing for debut.

During its final episode on January 26, JTBC and YG Entertainment’s survival program “MIXNINE” announced that the group made up of its top nine male contestants will make its debut. However, many people in the industry are saying that plans for their debut may be falling through.

Sources in the industry spoke to the news outlet Sports World and said, “After the end of ‘MIXNINE,’ we haven’t heard anything about a particular schedule from YG Entertainment. [The trainees] are just continuing to practice individually, they’re not preparing anything related to the debut.”

They continued, “It’s been two months since the program ended, but we haven’t received anything about a debut schedule. A debut track and team name haven’t even been decided on. We’re worried that the debut of the finalist members will be canceled.”

Another source said, “YG Entertainment is too busy taking care of its own artists’ comeback plans, so they’re not able to take care of the ‘MIXNINE’ debut group. If there are reports of a cancellation of the debut, then YG will explain that they’re getting ready for it. However, in reality, they haven’t prepared anything, so it’s no different from a state of the debut being canceled. It’s time for them to show definitive action on whether or not the debut is happening.”

Several sources in the industry also told Xportsnews, “It would be difficult for the ‘MIXNINE’ final group members in reality to release a new song in April. The process, including practices together or meetings about it, has not taken place at all.”

“MIXNINE” aired from October of 2017 to January of 2018, and YG founder Yang Hyun Suk participated extensively in the show, from selecting the competing trainees to taking part in choosing members of the final group. The final group consists of Woo Jin Young, Kim Hyo Jin, Lee Ru Bin, Kim Byeong Kwan, Choi Hyun Suk, Song Han Gyeom, Kim Min Seok, Lee Dong Hun, and Lee Byoung Gun.

On the other hand, UNB, the male project group from KBS’s idol rebooting program “The Unit,” has announced it will debut on April 7.

LOL I'm seriously so pissed tbh.  I can't believe they wasted these kids time like this.  I just wanted my boy Woo Jinyoung to debut in time for his grandma to see but that seems more and more unlikely between this and Happyface's inability to hold on to their male trainees.

It literally kills me that 90% of Big Bang is in the fucking army and we still got new music from them before we did Black Pink lmao

I didn’t know stanning a yg group was going to be this bad, I wanna know the logic behind YG locking the girls in the basement like all 5 of their songs were big hits and they are always trending. I just don’t understand!

I have the feeling that by the end of Big Bang’s service they will have released more music than all of YG’s other artists combined because YG thinks he can’t float without them.

I won't be surprised if you're right :(

I'm pretty sure BB does make the majority of revenue for YG and have been doing so for years - which is why I hope that one day soon they all leave to form their own companies and let YG to crash and burn as it deserves (BB seems loyal tho so I can also imagine them staying or setting up YG subsidaries sigh).

Their musical output is even slower than 2NE1's, it's a fucking tragedy. Where the fuck are these girls???

wtf yg, i feel bad for the trainees to work so hard and then win and yet...

this is why i avoid anything associated with yg ~_~ i very casually like blackpink and ikon (recently)

okay but lowkey i saw this coming when that reality show was announced lol

at least laun & hyojin never stop promoting with onf, just yesterday they did their first japanese activity ... when will yg???

how on earth is this trainwreck company still together. with the level of incompetence and lack of fucks given i'm surprised any of the artists ever put out any finished material.

It has been really weird to watch YG's downfall. There was a period, let's say 2008-2011 where 2NE1 and Big Bang simultaneously had decently steady output and activities, even if many of them were in Japan. Not as steady at SM or JYP, but reasonable. Then shit just hit a snag of epic purportions and it has never been quite the same.

I am dissappointedbutnotsurprised.gif mostly because my bbs Donghoon and Byungkwan could really use the exposure for ACE, but even so, I’m more ticked at how incompetent YG is just as a company in general. Like all these poor kids’ hard work is for what? To be left in the shadows of a lackluster finale while said “other groups” (does YG mean iKon?? BB’s digital release does not count) wait in the wings too? Does YG even remember he has a girl group signed to his trash bag of a company?

I hate Mr. Yang so much, lol I have to laugh or I will throw my phone.

lbr the only way YG artists ever put out anything is when they do it themselves. It's not really a surprise that the acts that put out the most music - BB, Winner, Ikon - all write their own material. Even 2NE1's second album might not have come out if CL hadn't taken a lead in songwriting (and clearly pushed YG to let her be more directly involved). They don't have enough songwriters/producers otherwise and are way too reliant on Teddy.

I highly doubt YG gives his female artists the same musical freedom as their male counterparts

they def don't lol Crush is the only 2ne1 album where CL even has any credits. While sis was fighting to even get those songs on their final album, Winner and iKon got to debut w/ self produced songs =/

I think that article about CL's nonexistent solo career from a while back even implied that her creative differences with YG/American management are at fault for her career not happening so yeah so much for getting releases if you write your own material

Nothing to be said but the usual: YG is crap, no surprises here, etc. I feel for these kids.
oppameansit 15th-Mar-2018 08:19 pm (UTC)
at this point I don't know why any female would sign with yg.

What a trash company. i saw somewhere that they haven't gotten paid or whatever either. i didn't watch this stuff, but it srsly sucks for them to have wasted their time and effort like that. =/

I'm scrolling back really far in omona so this is a late late late comment but I was just thinking about how ONF is really due for a comeback soon if they want to stay in any way relevant (after taking home like 0 rookie awards from last year) but Hyojin and Laun are stuck in this limbo..
