Groups whose contracts end in 2018 and 2019

Several groups' contracts will be ending this year and next year. Among them, there are groups with uncertain future, successful groups, and groups who might not be satisfied with the companies they're working under.

Find out which groups' contracts will be ending soon.

2PM debuted in 2008. Their contracts expired in January this year, and so far five out of six members renewed their contracts with JYPE. Nichkhun, Junho, Chansung, Jun. K and Wooyoung had chosen to re-sign with the agency for the second time.Taecyeon, who is currently serving in the military, will discuss the possibility of renewing his contract once he completes his service.

B1A4 consist of 5 members: Jinyoung, CNU, Sandeul, Baro and Gongchan. The band debuted on April 23, 2011 under WM Entertainment. Members' contracts are said to be ending in April of 2018. The group's latest releases include a mini album titled Rollin' in September of 2017 and a full album in Japan in June 2017.

Block B
Block B consists of seven members: Zico, P.O, Lee Taeil, B-Bomb, Ahn Jaehyo, U-Kwon and Park Kyung. The band debuted on April 13, 2011, under Stardom Entertainment. In 2013 they left their agency and signed with Seven Seasons. Zico is a successful soloist and producer. U-Kwon, B-Bomb, and P.O form a sub-unit called Bastarz. Their contracts with Seven Seasons end in April this year. Korean mini album "Montage" was released in November 2017 and is group's latest release. Members Taeil, B-Bomb and Jaehyo are group's oldest members and were born in 1990.

SHINee debuted on May 25, 2008, under S.M. Entertainment and currently consists of: Onew, Key, Minho and Taemin. Member Jonghyun passed away on December 18, 2017. Members' contracts are ending in May this year. On March 26, 2018 Shinee released their Japanese single, "From Now on", posthumously featuring Jonghyun. Member Onew was born in 1989 and might have to enlist in the near future.

Boyfriend is a Kpop band that consists of 6 members: Donghyun, Hyunseong, Jeongmin, Youngmin, Kwangmin and Minwoo. The band debuted on May 26, 2011, under Starship Entertainment. Members' contracts end in May this year. Boyfriend released their ninth Japanese single, "I Miss You", in February 2017. Five months later, they released their first Japanese extended play, Summer, with "Summer" as the lead single. After two years of releasing their fourth Korean extended play, Boyfriend released their fifth extended play, Never End with title track "Star", in August 2017.
4 of the 6 Boyfriend members, Jeongmin, Donghyun, Kwangmin and Minwoo auditioned for the KBS idol-rebooting show called The Unit. Out of the 4 members, only Donghyun participated in the show.

FIESTAR currently consists of 5 members: Linzy, Yezi, Jei, Hyemi, and Cao Lu. They debuted under LOEN Entertainment, on 2012. Cheska left the group in 2014. Fiestar haven't had a comeback since March 2016. In July the same year Cao Lu received backlash for supporting the South China Sea issue on Instagram. Members' contracts end in August this year. Yezi participated in Unpretty Rapstar and released a solo single. Members Jei, Cao Lu and Linzy signed solo contracts with other companies (Mars Entertainment, Yuehua Entertainment, WILL Entertainment).

JJ Project
JJ Project is a duo consisting of JB and Jinyoung. They debuted with a song "Bounce" in 2012. It is unknown whether JB and Jinyoung signed new contracts before debuting with GOT7 in 2014. According to JYPE, JJ Project members' contracts end on the last day of 2018 (December 31).

Hello Venus
The group originally consisted of six members: Alice, Nara, Lime, Yooara, Yoonjo, and Yooyoung. They debuted with lead single "Venus". In July 2014, Fantagio and Pledis ended their Tricell Media joint ventures. Yooara and Yoonjo remained under Pledis, with the other four members continuing their group activities under Fantagio. In October 2014, Fantagio introduced two new members: Seoyoung and Yeoreum. Original members' contracts will end in May 2019. The group’s debut was strong, but group activities began to dwindle as members embarked on solo activities. Since Hello Venus has not produced a full studio since The Mystery of Venus in 2016, fans fear the contract may not be renewed.

AOA debuted in 2012 under FNC Entertainment. AOA debuted as an seven-member girlband that consisted of Choa, Jimin, Yuna, Chanmi, Hyejeong, Seolhyun, and Mina. Member Youkyung left the group in 2016. In 2017 one of the most popular members - Choa left. AOA released successful songs such as "Short Hair", "Like a Cat" and "Mini Skirt". Seolhyun is group's face and the most popular member. Jimin, group's rapper participated in Unpretty Rapstar. AOA announced that they're preparing for a comeback in May. Members' contracts end in August, 2019.

B.A.P debuted in 2012 with TS Entertainment. The group's six members are Yongguk, Himchan, Daehyun, Youngjae, Jongup, and Zelo. B.A.P made their musical debut with the single "Warrior". In 2012 they competed with EXO and Busker Busker for the title of debut of the year. In 2014, B.A.P filed a lawsuit against TS Entertainment, wishing to nullify their contract due to unfair working conditions and profit distribution. In 2015, B.A.P and TS Entertainment reached a settlement but, given the history between the two parties, fans’ concerns about B.A.P’s upcoming contract expiration are understandable. Members' contracts end in January 2019. Yongguk and Himchan are group's oldest members and were born in 1990.

VIXX debuted with Jellyfish Entertainment in 2012. VIXX consists of N, Leo, Ken, Ravi, Hongbin and Hyuk. No disputes between the two parties have been reported and the VIXX members have expressed their desire to continue on as a group. This year VIXX performed at the International Olympic Committee general assembly opening ceremony, where they performed their hit single, "Shangri-La". Members' contracts end in May 2019. N and Leo were born in 1990 and might have to enlist in the near future.

EXID debuted in 2012 under AB Entertainment and is currently under AB Entertainment and Banana Culture Entertainment. The group currently consists of five members: Solji, LE, Hani, Hyelin and Jeonghwa. EXID debuted in February 2012, with the single "Whoz That Girl" and found success thanks to their hit song "Up and Down." They've just had a comeback with a single "Lady." Members' contracts end in February next year.

Wanna One
Wanna One was formed by CJ E&M through Produce 101 and debuted under YMC Entertainment and CJ E&M in 2017. The popular group has been active for less than a year, but their contract is already set to end on December 31, 2018. On January 31, a news outlet reported that Wanna One’s contract may be extended to February 2019. In response, YMC stated that although an extension was brought up during a meeting, it has not been discussed in-depth.

They are currently a five-member boy group. Signed under Amuse Korea, the group consists of South Korean members: Shin, Sangmin, Yongseok and Seyoung and Japanese member Takuya. Their contracts end in June 2019J.G. left Cross Gene to start a solo career while Chinese member Casper left the group after few years in 2017. The group released a mini album "Mirror" in February 2017. Not long ago fans called for better treatment of Cross Gene following Takuya's Musical Casting Controversy. Their label announced that Takuya would be involved in a Japanese musical "My host" and fans could "win" experiences with him and other casts of the musical including hugs and other forms of physical interaction.

A boygroup formed by DSP Media in 2012. Early in their career, the group was known as DSP Boyz but then was changed to A-Jax.The group is currently composed of five members: Hyeongkon, Yunyoung, Seungjin, Seungyeop, and Junghee. DSP announced that the group would be debuting and promoting in South Korea and Japan simultaneously in 2012. Their contracts end in June 2019. On January 8, 2015, DSP Media announced that Jaehyung would enlist in the army as a public service officer. On January 7, 2016, it was announced by DSP Media that Sungmin had left the group. On February 5, 2016, DSP Media announced the departure of Jaehyung and Jihu. Jihu and Sungmin would remain with the label, while Jaehyung's contract was terminated. Junghee was added to the group and A-Jax will continue promoting as a quintet. On September 19, 2017, the group released their third Japanese single, "Romeo." Members Seungjin and Junghee participated in the idol rebooting show KBS's The Unit. Former member Jihu participated in MIXNINE. The group hasn't had a comeback in Korea since 2013.

BTOB was formed in 2012 by Cube Entertainment. The group consists of Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Changsub, Hyunsik, Peniel, Ilhoon, and Sungjae. Under the label, BTOB has gained success (a fairly big Korean fanbase, good digital sales, Sungjae also found success through acting), and the group has given no indication that they would not be willing to renew their contract with Cube. Members' contracts end on March 2019. The oldest members are 90ers and might have to enlist in the near future.

NU’EST debuted in 2012 under Pledis Entertainment. No publicized disputes between the group and their label have occurred, but the past few months have not been easy for either party due to Baekho‘s sexual assault charges (Baekho was acquitted of sexual assault charges recently). Four members (JR, Baekho, Minhyun, and Ren) participated in the reality television series Produce 101 Season 2. Member Minhyun is currently not promoting with the group as he was selected as one of the members of Wanna One after participating in the series Produce 101 Season 2. NUEST started promoting as NUEST W without member Minhyun, and their comeback promotions were successful. Members' contracts end on March 2019.

In your opinion, which groups are going to renew?

fiestar's pretty much over, there just hasn't been an official announcement. i could see b1a4 possibly disbanding tbh it seems like most of them are interested in things other than being idols.

i can see key and taemin likely resigning with sm, but i wonder about onew :(

bap and btob should pull a highlight

OP, AOA debuted as 8!! And the AOA Black unit gave them their first win

Honestly this next release is make or break for AOA IMO. If they can get a good song and bump Hyejeong up to a main vocal to go alongside Yuna and Jimin's rap is nice then maybe they'll be fine?? IDK

B1A4 debuting on my birthday is something I would find super adorable had Banas not decimated Dal Shabet's entire career. SMH!

EXID seems to be holding on and I think if they can get in a comeback with Solji then they'll be fine, IDK about a renewal tho.

Hello Venus & Fiestar need to hang it up - I'm sure Yezi will do fantastic as a soloist - while I want for SHINee whatever it is they want and IDK her.gif to the rest.

Fiestar and Hello Venus are already dead in the water.

B.A.P are going to run from TS, we all know this. Whether they disband or choose to regroup under another label is up in the air

NUEST will 100% renew. I think all of SHINee will as well with SM although there is a chance Onew may not.

EXID are uncertain. They have a good thing going with Banana Culture so I hope they renew but they themselves have said time is running out for them as a group.

Wanna One-lol. They gone.

Doesn't FT contract end in december 2019? Did they resign already?
Wasn't AOA contract supposed to end in may 2019?
boxcuttergirl 21st-Apr-2018 08:03 pm (UTC)
ot but i love your new icon!
myrrhcat 21st-Apr-2018 07:07 pm (UTC)
OP hello venus' most recent album was in 2017, not 2016! as for their future as a group... ugh. on one hand the members seem to have a really strong bond and i want to see them stay together, but they've just been so overlooked and mistreated by fantagio. and if the other four members don't renew their contracts, where would that leave seoyoung and yeoreum?
they do have a 6th anniversary fanmeeting coming up, so it seems they haven't been entirely forgotten. and the members still keep referencing a planned comeback. i want to believe.
even if they don't renew under fantagio, i could see them staying together.

Thank you! I was checking wiki and other sites and somehow didn't see anything about this release ):
xlovexlessxtyx 21st-Apr-2018 07:19 pm (UTC)

That being said, can we cancel Wanna One early? That’d be swell.

RIP Fiestar. The girls did their best... I think?
ganzcyn 21st-Apr-2018 07:16 pm (UTC)
To think that in august the worst thing i thought could happen was Shinee splitting up
I can see Taemin, Minho and even key resigning with SM, I don't know about Onew. But whatever they chose to do Im gonna support their decisions.
keytfelt 22nd-Apr-2018 07:23 am (UTC)
Same at your first sentence. I bet Key will re-sign but like you said, whatever they do I'll support them.
ohlookshiny 21st-Apr-2018 07:17 pm (UTC)
i can see fnc disbanding aoa and the members continuing with their own stuff. i think this will be their final release. the shelf life of girl groups makes me so sad :(

b.a.p will definitely leave ts and i think they will stay together and if possible set up their own agency. god knows what will happen to sonamoo & trcng

btob will stay with cube as their management has improved and they basically give them free reign at this point.

as for b1a4... idk. maybe they will stay together but mostly do their own thing and have infrequent releases (basically their current situation). wm won’t want to lose them and onf are still babies and they need to establish them before letting b1a4 go. it really depends on the members themselves i think.
goshipgurl 21st-Apr-2018 07:21 pm (UTC)
taecyeon will re-sign for sure. or take over JYPE, he has a business degree so i don't doubt that he'd be better at managing the company than the current folks.

groups i don't see renewing:

B1A4, boyfriend, fiestar (i thought they already did, oops), hello venus, B.A.P. (just to get away from TShit)

AOA, depends how their upcoming comeback will do.

if it wasn't for PD101 Nuest would be on that list too, but i don't see them giving up their new-found fame
lostintheechoes 21st-Apr-2018 08:01 pm (UTC)
b.a.p deserve 150% better, i really hope they go and do their own thing either on their own or with another company.

boxcuttergirl 21st-Apr-2018 08:06 pm (UTC)
i feel so bad for boyfriend, starship mismanaged them and then dropped them like a hot stone once monsta x debuted. hopefully they don't disband ;;

nu'est are 100% going to re-sign lol
22_taken 22nd-Apr-2018 04:29 am (UTC)
from what i remember starship stopped promoting then long before monsta x debuted, i don't know what was the reason but i don't remember boyfriend having a big fanbase or being successful digitally. maybe starship expected a sistar level of success from them.
a_suitcase 21st-Apr-2018 08:24 pm (UTC)
Sad to say but I feel like there's no way Fiestar or AOA will stay together :/. At least Yezi will hopefully continue to release amazing tracks.

EXID might be okay - they do get on so well and they seem to really be enjoying this latest comeback! Besides, we deserve to get a few more comebacks with Solji...
thebloomroom 21st-Apr-2018 09:45 pm (UTC)
I think most of Shinee will renew but Onew... idk. I think he may not. We will see.

NU’EST would be dumb not to capitalize off their revival so. EXID seems popular is there a reason they wouldn’t? Idk anything about them really. I think Block B will renew too. I just recently got into Wanna One and I’m lowkey sad they have to disband lmfao, but I’ll just follow Ong and Daniel after bc idrc about most of the others. Hopefully Jisung finds something....

Hopefully BAP is successful elsewhere, I am surprised they never got more famous than they are now. Wasted potential smh.
22_taken 22nd-Apr-2018 04:51 am (UTC)
BAP release many albums and promote non stop in both Japan and Korea but I don't know if their fanbase is still growing. Back in 2012 their fans were everywhere on Twitter (just like EXO fans), but later some of their international fans went to other fandoms. I'm glad they can still hold tours and release music frequently (not every group who debuted in 2011-12 can).

No one can deny how popular Wanna One is but I'm not sure if all members can find success after their contracts end. Members who already have solo deals can manage (I think), but the market is oversaturated and only few groups debuting every year find a moderate success.
miss_suunshinee 21st-Apr-2018 09:52 pm (UTC)
tbh the only member i always predicted leaving shinee or sm is indeed gone .... so yeah, whatever happens to shinee will be for the better

b1a4 are still main breadwinners on WM, lately they are getting lots of freedom in personal and profesional desicions + their japanese career is going surprisingly well... i think they could resign,

wanna one we all know was created like that so i guess all of them gonna end up like ioi members
theweebdream 21st-Apr-2018 10:03 pm (UTC)
I honestly didn’t even know Fiestar was still together. God, I used to stan LOEN way back in the day but I quickly learned that if it’s not IU then they have no clue how to manage their groups.
