Big 3 Album Sales So Far This Year: Gaon and Oricon

Reddit user BanterMasterGid compiled a bunch of numbers from groups and solo-ists across all three companies and broke them down in graph form. It's a combination of korean and japanese releases.

Cube's numbers put together by user 5mayday

sources: r/kpop 1 2

the totals aren't as interesting as seeing the breakdown of artists within the companies themselves.

a cross comparison I thought was interesting was that Got7 sold more than all YG boygroup combined, even though iKON had the bigger song this year.

BoA's numbers are shockingly lower than I expected for two releases already this year but Oh! GG doing so well with just a digital and khino single is great.

Looks like Stray Kidz will be taking the rookie male awards. Didn't realize their numbers were so high.

RIP Triple H

i see that BP chunk and all I can think is "damnit yg, do you know how much bigger that could be???"

also shocked to see BoA's numbers so low. I didn't think OSTS was at that sales level.

OSTs?? what do you mean?
babyjenkski 21st-Oct-2018 05:44 pm (UTC)
Wow Twice. Wow BTOB.
goshipgurl 21st-Oct-2018 05:49 pm (UTC)
SM's pie (and YG's too i guess) look the healthiest, as in they have a variety of artists that sell equally well. with JYPE and CUBE it's twice and btob that keep the company running, which can backfire real quick if something bad (scandal, or in btob's case military) happens.
eelgirl13 21st-Oct-2018 06:35 pm (UTC)
got7 and 2pm have good touring power though - particularly in japan if i remember correctly. obviously a hit to twice would be bad for jype (since their touring power is no joke as well), but its not like got7 and junho wouldn't be able to keep the company on it's feet for at least a while.

cube tho... pentagon is doing decently in japan but i don't think they come close to btob, and they wouldn't be able to bring in tour money from other places overseas not like cube would let them.
daceymormont 21st-Oct-2018 06:03 pm (UTC)
yes twice and btob!
got7 are doing so well yet people say they're flopping. compared to twice everyone's "flopping" i guess.

Wait didnt Taemin also have album release earlier in the year?
vintage_boom 21st-Oct-2018 06:12 pm (UTC)
Nope his first solo release for 2018 comes out next month in Japan. He did a couple one off special songs for a variety show earlier this summer.
rainstormraider 21st-Oct-2018 06:12 pm (UTC)
At least the Stray Kids and Day6 are doing better than I expected.

The Cube chart shows that It’s not really worth continuing CLC, even though I like their past songs. I wanted to see Cube have two girl groups they supported and they can take their turns promoting, but it may not be realistic.

I winced when I saw that. I feel like they really kinda hit their image stride with Black Dress but... yeah. If we do get CBs, they will probably be budget af so they can save it for g-idle. Can't say I blame them, but Black Dress turned me into a stan. But then you have the fact that g-idle is girl crush / cool girl and... ugh. What would be the point? I'm afraid they'll either drop CLC entirely or make them go cutesy again and I don't know which is worse, lol.
kukamine 21st-Oct-2018 07:35 pm (UTC)
got7 is doing really well idk why knetz thinks they're flops just because they don't have as much public recognition compared to other groups
they're selling even more than BP who's considered top tier gg (almost 4x more)
also smh yg, BP could be selling way more than that and winner too! 😒

Wow, Exo have sold almost as much as BlackPink and Ikon even without a comeback.
NCT have clearly been doing well for Sm this year. Good for them.
evilcoc0nut 21st-Oct-2018 08:14 pm (UTC)
Lol this was my takeaway too.
dull_and_wicked 21st-Oct-2018 08:00 pm (UTC)
cube's chart shows that clc's probably in some trouble...although i feel like btob losing even more members with minhyuk and changsub enlisting this coming year and the loss of the money hyuna brought in probably has given clc a little bit more time :/
eelgirl13 21st-Oct-2018 08:07 pm (UTC)
i actually doubt it since idle has sold almost 3x more... if anything btob starting the military service and the loss of hyuna means idle is going to be pushed to the forefront (and that cube really needs guanlin back from wanna one asap)
lynethia 21st-Oct-2018 08:38 pm (UTC)
Pleasant surprise to see the SNSD subunit did so well for a non-hyped Kinho album package. Exo, Red Velvet and Taeyeon still have a comeback to go to see how these slices end up looking year end. Impressed at NCT's numbers, too.
