Flashback Friday

It’s Friday and I bought 2 boxes of cookies and 3 bottles of wine so I am ready for the weekend! Every week I check out this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. Let’s see who was on top for the 3rd week of November, 2015. Leave the men at home Omona, because it’s a Flashback Friday Ladies Night!

#3 Taeyeon featuring Verbal Jint “I”

This was the single off of her debut solo album. I’ve never seen the whole video before, it’s so very pretty! New Zealand is gorgeous! She looks great, and I would like all the outfits please and thank you. Although I’m in Southern California and it’s like 75 today, so I’d probably have no use for them. But that styling is darn cute. The only part of the actual song that I remember is the “I” yodel part though. Is that considered a yodel?

#2 IU “Twenty Three”
I don’t remember the song, all I remember about this era was that it was kind of a mess. So much controversy about the whole album. This MV, other songs on the album, and I think even the artwork? But yeah, that’s all I remember about this era. It didn’t seem to hurt her popularity though, the song charted well and she went on to tour with the album.

#1 f(x) “4 Walls”

I think this probably my favorite song from them. I remember at the time everyone comparing it to Shinee’s View, but I loved View too so idk lol. I don’t really get the video, but it’s pretty. And they look pretty too, I like the soft makeup.

Honorable Mentions

#5 Brown Eyed Girls “Brave New World”
This is the kind of song you put on when you’re getting ready to go out. Like you most definitely could take a million makeup mirror selfies to this. I dig on this funky disco sound, and I always still singalong with the “heeeey” lol. They all look hot, but I’m especially loving this hair on Jea.

#6 Twice “Like OOH-AHH”

This was the group’s debut single. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the full MV before. Why didn’t they ever acknowledge the zombies? They’re just in an alternative universe where they live side by side with them like its normal? And those so called zombies are wack, they don’t even attack. Anywhos, I’ll probably be doing that “like ooh ahh” dance move all weekend long now.

Omg, all the top three songs were released when I was studying abroad in japan .___. Such a good time!!

Love all of these songs! Though I prefer to listen to the version of "I" without Verbal Jint that someone made. 4 Walls is the song I've listened to the most (according to my iTunes), and I still listen to it all the time.

What I never got is that the english for the end of Tae's chorus was so clunky. Instead of 'my life is a beauty' why not 'my life full of beauty'?
adenar 17th-Nov-2018 02:29 am (UTC)
I never had an issue with it to be honest. 'A beauty' is old-fashioned but still used, i.e 'a beauty but a funny girl'. It might be a bit weird in this context but it's grammatically correct so as far as English kpop lyrics go I'm satisfies.

That said I did hear it as 'my life is so beauty' at first so it's miles better than that.

I guess it's the exact ideal of an english kpop lyric because like yeah you can technically use it that way but no native english speaker would. I guess the thing is that you only ever use it for tangible objects?

I was just re-watching Twice's MVs today and wow I forgot how weird and creepy some of them are. and watching them back to back made heartshaker a super uneasy viewing experience.

OP i think they're trying to cure the Zombies back in the people through music lol at least the ending makes it seem that way.

this was the time i was reborn into kpop.

aaaaaaa I love 4 Walls. This is one of my favorite Amber raps, too

Brave New World is my favorite Brown Eyed Girls song and one of my favorite all-time K-pop music videos. The colors are so bright, the lighting is fantastic in the dance scenes, and everyone looks beautiful!!! I just love watching it.

i still think "twenty-three" is a bop, though it reminds me of "can't help" by parachute and "why" by hurts.

i'm still not keen on "like ooh-ahh", but i don't dislike it as much as i did when it came out, lol.

I love 4 walls and I thought it would lead to a new era of F(x) releasing this kind of music for years and becoming SM's new fave...but instead they disappeared as a group and everyone just started doing solo work <_<

This was such a good time for kpop.

its a pity all op remember about chatshire era was IU witch hunt ...
luckily that didnt hit her popularity because at the end most controversy was based on fangirls rants and random posts easy to debunk :)

still iu never stopped performing zeze or any song from that album anyways lolz

F(X) - Four Walls masterpiece still love that song and listen to it a lot, IU song was really, good, and Twice debut I still go back and watch Like OOH-AHH especially around Halloween. It is one of my favorite songs of theirs and I don't know all of the girls names but I still smile and laugh when the one dress like a cheerleader tries to lift her leg up :)
