Weekly Idol Hosts are leaving the show in 2019 - show will be restructured

On November 21, it was announced that MBC every1 will be restructuring “Weekly Idol” again next year. This comes after large changes to the show in 2018, when longtime hosts Jung Hyung Don and Defconn and producing director (PD) Kim Jin left “Weekly Idol.”

The show then brought in Lee Sang Min, Kim Shin Young, and Yoo Se Yoon as MCs, and they have been hosting since April.

MBC every1 has now confirmed that with the upcoming restructuring of “Weekly Idol,” they’re planning to change the current MC team as well as the PD and writer. “As the restructuring is planned for January of next year, the MCs who will be taking over have not yet been decided,” the network stated. “It is also unknown when the final episode with the three MCs will air.”

That doesn't surprise me
I don't think the current hosts make the show work. They didn't have the room to create their own style since they're so closely following the Weekly Idol system, and they're obviously compared to Doni and Coni. Also the formula has been going on for a while, time to change things a bit!
I enjoy Kim Shin Young on it though

Surprisingly, I don't think Idol Room work so well either. It's basically Weekly Idol 2.0 with different segments but somehow I find Doni and Coni more awkward? I watched the Twice episode and realized half way through that I had completely tuned out lol it was super weird because they're usually good at this

Watch GOT7's episode, truly one of the funniest things I've EVER seen them do

GOT7 are good at variety to begin with, I'm not surprised that they made it work!
I'll keep your recommandation in mind :)

I hope this restructering makes a completely different show tbh Or at least lays off its dependancy on big/well established groups to be interesting. The 3mcs never really got off the ground even tho i personally liked them and KSY has worked with idols so much that being confined to the format worked against her

Also idol room is a trashcan

idt I've found Weekly Idol entertaining since Heechul and Hani were filling in as hosts. They should go that route if they re-organize things and get hosts that are more peers to the idols who appear. they usually know what buttons to push and how to relate to them better.

my issue with weekly idol atm is the lack of sound effects feels awkward, idk. hopefully they do better with the next iteration
bring hani back tbh

I kinda liked these three because they were more chill and nice

while i dont think these three are more fun than doni coni (although the only real problem here for me is sangmin actually), i feel bad for them lol bc they're aware that ppl keep saying that they're not fun. and i thought ppl are starting to embrace them rn. but maybe not after all.

also, i hope the restructuring doesnt mean it'll stop airing in my country bc i need the subbing money

Oh cool, you sub the show professionally? Are you translating or doing the whole nine with timing/typesetting?
pseudo_shigure 22nd-Nov-2018 12:51 pm (UTC)
i got the english file already with timing, so in this case just translating since it's a non english show. but since we're a week behind the original airing date in korea, sometimes i compare the one i got with the one uploaded on YT, since the english is weird sometimes, and i feel like most of the time it's the same exact translation. lol idek.

Aaaaah, so it's english -> your language ? That's awesome! I saw a MBC job posting for translators not long ago, is around 80$ (1 hour vid) the standard for jobs like these would you say?
pseudo_shigure 22nd-Nov-2018 01:41 pm (UTC)
yes. it's eng to my language. and i'm working for a subtitling company so the rate might be different. also it depends on where you live and what language you work on i think. i just checked another subber's work order, he got paid almost 20x than i do, translating jpn-eng and i think it's a subber in HK so he got paid in HKD. it's much more than the rate from MBC and it's only a 0.5hr show. so...
juhli 22nd-Nov-2018 01:56 pm (UTC)
Very interesting! 20x more.....i guess the demand dictates the rates wow.

I looked up the job posting for mbc again and turns out it's 180$, not 80$.

It's super interesting to know the rates for stuff like this. Yesterday i read that dramabeans pays (or paid) their recappers 300 $ for each recap + bonus if you submitted it early :o
pseudo_shigure 22nd-Nov-2018 02:22 pm (UTC)
yeah, well different living standard i guess -_-. i'm thinking a jpn-eng subber would also be paid much more than i do in my country, just as a jpn-canto or eng-canto probably would be paid less in HK. Also, i think in pro subtitling, typesetting is not a thing, if there's a caption on screen, you just have to time and translate it (also depends on the protocol, sometimes you don't have to sub it if there's dialogue over it). also, sometimes you only have a script and the media, so you have to time and translate it. but most of the time it's already in a working file so you just have to translate and maybe adjust the timing here and there.

I just googled what e recapper is lol. and wow, i didn't know that they got paid. i thought it's just a blog they do.
