YG Ent using YT's copyright system to take down videos criticizing Jennie's lackluster performances

Criticism on YG and Jennie is valid, hate towards her not. Stay on the right side Omona!

Wonder if all this criticism will lead to a change in her performance, since her company is now obviously aware. She used to be a good performer, so I hope she brings it again. I got into kpop partly because of the performances, so it's been sad to see so many groups looking like school talent show performers.

Nah, YG thinks his shit doesn't stink, I doubt he'd adapt to public criticism unless the backlash was severe. Most of the criticism of her seems to be from fans/online. Maybe if Jennie's aware of it she'll change on her own, though...I'm actually really interested in what she'll do bc I think it will say a lot.
benihime99 29th-Nov-2018 06:58 pm (UTC)
Lazy doesn't seem like the appropriated word to me anyway
She doesn't have an once of charisma that's one thing but she also seems overworked, bored and disillusioned

I also really thing the image YG is forcing on her doesn't suit her
She's a cutie, she shines the most when she interacts with fans (or food); when she's smiles
Which are things YG doesn't really let her do
She IS not the new CL and she should not have to be
YG pushing this mature/sexy image on her is gross and I honestly think she doesn't like it

I know it was going viral (but also "Jennie is a lazy dancer" has been a meme since 2017 already, not like it was all that new), but I feel like this isn't helping with that favouritism stuff.

well she'll surely go extra hard at the next performance. If not, the criticism is just gonna get worse.
miwa201 29th-Nov-2018 07:22 pm (UTC)
what i wonder is if all the videos yg used had footage from the concert. bc if they did, then i get why they were taken down. but other fancams should be free to use.

either way, i started noticing this during as if it's your last promotions and i have a feeling jennie is disillusioned with idol life. she was a lot more enthusiastic in 2016 when they debuted. i blame yg for everything idc

Keep the criticisms coming, as long as they're based on stuff like performances and are not attacks on things she can't control or legal personal life choices (e.g. let her date.)

Whether or not she likes it, she needs to hear that she's doing a disservice to the fans who pay. And maybe the asshats in charge will start paying attention. I am starting to dislike this girl, and it seems like the main reasons for my dislike aren't even her choice. Tough luck though.
lil_poisonfrog 30th-Nov-2018 06:46 am (UTC)
I agree, Jennie's probably making decent money right now from her CFs and stuff and will likely be fairly rich by the end of her idol career. That's not the case with most of her fans who paid those ridiculous ticket prices. YG is trash for many reasons but that doesn't give her a pass to just give up and not try at all.

I'm curious to see if there will be a noteable change in her next performance after this issue got so much attention. When is Blackpinks/Jennies next performance?
suggestivepeach 30th-Nov-2018 01:17 am (UTC)

I think they’re attending the Melon music awards so perhaps then?

vintage_boom 29th-Nov-2018 08:13 pm (UTC)
I think pushing her to be first with a solo and making her a solo brand ambassador is only adding to the already growing issues people have with BP/YG. For Jennie, they've always styled her differently to draw the eye to her and now that she's the first to get a solo release it's showing even more and her not being able to live up to the hype is disappointing to everyone, her included probably.

They should rly rush the next solo release at least to draw some heat away from her and to prove that YGE is going to keep their work and let all the girls do something on their own.
timetobegin 29th-Nov-2018 08:20 pm (UTC)
Jessica was also notoriously lazy on stage but I never saw anyone complain about that so idk why Jennie is being targeted. Cause she's now solo, I guess?

I watched a few of these video's and the comments were negl. Sexism at its finest, kpop fans being transparently biased as always.
juhli 29th-Nov-2018 08:24 pm (UTC)
Jessica, Sulli, Yeri etc. all got heavily criticized....i think it might seem bigger with Jennie now because K-POP got a lot bigger since then?
lizanka23 29th-Nov-2018 08:46 pm (UTC)
like it was said before, i'm really curious how it will affect their performances but who knows when the next time is for blackpink. they barely promote ever...
sciencebottle 29th-Nov-2018 09:08 pm (UTC)
Agree with OP's note! It's one thing to make a valid criticism of her performance- its a whole other thing to extrapolate from that and call her lazy, spoiled, a bitch, stuck up....etc, which there is absolutely no evidence for. The amount of hate she's been getting has been completely and utterly wild and the fact that people have the time to make videos like this tells me more about them than it does about Jennie, tbh.

Her performances are lackluster and need more energy and she doesn't finish her choreography. She doesn't show much emotion. She seems nervous. That is all valid criticism and I hope that she is a) given more of a push to ditch this bored concept and actually have fun on stage, and b) is actually given a shit ton more training. She's had fantastic performances before, she can do it again.

Also does anyone else see the Jisoo camera-guns ddu du ddu du MV parallel happening in real life (yes i'm reaching I know lol)
donutism 29th-Nov-2018 09:20 pm (UTC)
i think her performance is disappointing and lackluster, but the only valid criticism i think is lazy. i think a lot of the hate is a bit overboard, but she shouldn't be shielded from everything.

i think YG fucked up by giving them like barely any opportunities to perform. how are they meant to get better if he keeps them in a dungeon?
lil_poisonfrog 30th-Nov-2018 06:52 am (UTC)
Lol right...stuff about her being an entitled rich bitch might be a bit too far, but idk what else you would call that dancing but lazy. We haven't heard any excuse that anything else caused her to perform like that. I don't believe in spreading hate, but also don't like the attitude of treating celebs like fragile babies we can never say anything negative about, especially when the criticism is about how they do their jobs.
ohbubbajoan 29th-Nov-2018 09:49 pm (UTC)
i'm so tired of seeing this everywhere. as far as i'm concerned most of yg artists don't dance that well or like it for that matter. even the others girls in BP half ass it most of the time. the thing is, with the others they all have some sort of charisma on stage and know how to play it which, sadly, none of blackpink girls have (yet, i guess).

i wonder if the relationships between BP and the seniors are that bad/yg idols are that petty, that dara or cl can't sit down and give her a few points about finding her way with the performances to drawn the public in. her face works only to an extent and rely only on YG opinion/desires is gonna hurt her at some point - not now, since SOLO is all up on the charts and won things, so kfans don't seem to care this much.
nekobot 29th-Nov-2018 11:00 pm (UTC)
I'm having some mixed feelings about this. She is obviously not doing a good job and should not be immune from criticism about it but I get the idea that a lot of people making a big deal about it don't actually want to see her/Blackpink bring great performances and are just rubbing their hands with glee that now they have receipts that will allow them to make her look stupid. Yes she needs to put in some more effort, that's not even really up for discussion, but even moreso her company needs to start paying attention to all the members equally, find them solid concepts and start investing in and taking them seriously as a group rather than as an easy source of money and traffic. It's ridiculous how obviously they're not being given the resources they need that would bring them to a much higher level. Any decent company should have seen this coming working up to the release and would have either worked on fixing it or canned the project entirely, it would not be the first time an idol gets passed over for their groupmates because they're just not delivering and it's not like they can't afford to deliver the best possible outcome. The only upside for this is that it makes it harder for YG to blag himself out of giving the other members solos because Jennie did sell and it might be the easiest way to take the heat off.

What really makes me wonder about this though...has there ever been such a campaign against a male idol being lazy? Not counting ones that have happened in a "my fav is better than your fav" repeat shawty Imma party til the sundown video type way, like a genuine why is this person an idol type way? Because I can't think of an example and it feels like there's an undercurrent of sexism happening here.
juhli 29th-Nov-2018 11:17 pm (UTC)
Ia that there is a tad sexism at play here. For female idols, i can immediately list 3 girls who had such a controversy. For male idols on the other hand... The only one that got a ton of shit was Hyunseung for his attitude on stage...but other than that, i can't recall anyone else.
sra_interesante 29th-Nov-2018 11:23 pm (UTC)
what can i say? she isnt the first or the last idol with this lazy/dead inside/out of it/plz kill me now vibe

after seeing a bunch (10 concerts/fanmeets, 2 music banks) of idols on live performances for around 7-8 years now
i realised most of them, even groups i actually like and stan, lack lots of charisma or "stamina" or even basic manners lol

caliling her lazy, when she's one of the "it girl" of the current kpop scene .... its like saying kpop in general is lazy lmao

Edited at 2018-11-29 11:27 pm (UTC)
nekobot 29th-Nov-2018 11:33 pm (UTC)
Kpop has that special unique brand of laziness where it's just extreme amounts of time and effort allocated in the worst possible way. Like "we trained for 7 years and deprived ourselves of sleep, food and human contact" and then you just think...okay and this is the best you could do after all of that?

Funny use of gif because out of all the idol concerts I've seen SHINee were the only group that I was really seriously impressed by in terms of performance.
thebloomroom 29th-Nov-2018 11:51 pm (UTC)
Lol i just commented about this in one of the Solo posts yday! I was playing catchup and I noticed the videos posted here were taken down.
