YG Ent using YT's copyright system to take down videos criticizing Jennie's lackluster performances

Criticism on YG and Jennie is valid, hate towards her not. Stay on the right side Omona!

I'm having some mixed feelings about this. She is obviously not doing a good job and should not be immune from criticism about it but I get the idea that a lot of people making a big deal about it don't actually want to see her/Blackpink bring great performances and are just rubbing their hands with glee that now they have receipts that will allow them to make her look stupid. Yes she needs to put in some more effort, that's not even really up for discussion, but even moreso her company needs to start paying attention to all the members equally, find them solid concepts and start investing in and taking them seriously as a group rather than as an easy source of money and traffic. It's ridiculous how obviously they're not being given the resources they need that would bring them to a much higher level. Any decent company should have seen this coming working up to the release and would have either worked on fixing it or canned the project entirely, it would not be the first time an idol gets passed over for their groupmates because they're just not delivering and it's not like they can't afford to deliver the best possible outcome. The only upside for this is that it makes it harder for YG to blag himself out of giving the other members solos because Jennie did sell and it might be the easiest way to take the heat off.

What really makes me wonder about this though...has there ever been such a campaign against a male idol being lazy? Not counting ones that have happened in a "my fav is better than your fav" repeat shawty Imma party til the sundown video type way, like a genuine why is this person an idol type way? Because I can't think of an example and it feels like there's an undercurrent of sexism happening here.

Ia that there is a tad sexism at play here. For female idols, i can immediately list 3 girls who had such a controversy. For male idols on the other hand... The only one that got a ton of shit was Hyunseung for his attitude on stage...but other than that, i can't recall anyone else.

Haha I forgot about Hyunseung. He was really doing the most in doing the least, he almost turned it into performance art.

I agree so so so much on the underlying sexism thing. My exo bias is Sehun- I love him to death. But his dancing has nowhere near the same amount of energy as some of the other boys even though he's supposed to be the other dancer member, and he has not gotten the same amount of media attention that Jennie's getting for this. There has definitely been times where I wonder if Sehun even practiced for a performance once beforehand. Not calling him lazy in any way, but its absolutely a truth that male idols do not get dragged the same way that female idols do. Even other male idols who are known to not be super smiley or affectionate (eg. Suga) are not criticised anywhere near the same amount that female idols who act the same way are.

I feel like Jennie has the classic combination of things that people just love to hate in a girl- she's beautiful, she has a rather strong RBF (because she's supposed to look nice all the time, obviously!), she has a very different personality than the concept YG wants for her (so because of that she's fake apparently), YG clearly favourites her, etc etc. Girls just can't win.

Yeah, I like Exo but someone like Sehun is obviously put in as a visual/"rapper" (kind of like how Minho's position was in SHINee) and it is quite common that groups with a large amount of members just have a few where you think "how could they still be at this level?". It's not even anything against the members personally but it makes you wonder what on earth their companies are doing in that they're not improving at all with all the work they seem to be putting in, and they probably do indeed do it because boy groups can mostly get away with it (and SM groups always have that one great singer or dancer in a group to compensate for lacking members so they're smart in that regard, but when you're standing next to someone like Kai it creates a huge contrast).

I wonder if the image YG is putting out for Jennie is also not helping because yeah, she's being marketed as that queen bee Regina George type and that seems to revoke an even worse response in people because they're more likely to allow lack of skill in someone who seems innocent or less confident because then it's seen as "cute". When you think about it...even if she did nail this solo it wouldn't make her more popular with men because they don't like that type of confident woman they're pushing her to be!
