Warm socks, comfy clothes in general (layering is the best so you don't necessarily need really big sweater)
Gloves and a good scarf, you might want to pack some moisturising product (for your lips, hands and face especially)
Sneakers are a bit light, and if the road is icy your mom might slip

Uniqlo HEATTECH line (or anything similar) is nice cause it's light but warm and comfortable

Also stay hydrayed and well fed, your body needs the energy, use the cold a an excuse to get drunk on hot cocoa or mulled wine
And have tones of fun \o/

but i love big sweaters! (jk)

i have a bunch of uniqlo heattech, but most of them are camis, and i don't know if layering just those with outer clothing is warm enough or if i need to layer another heattech on top (generally the camis are enough down to 1-5C with a long sleeved top and a long skirt with regular leggings and a coat and hat, but I've never been to anywhere colder than that).

I will eat lots of barbecue in this trip apparently bc that's what the travel itinerary says! \o/

I usually wear my camis under a sweater and throw a coat on but we rarely go under 5°
