Flashback Friday

Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s check out what we were listening to in the 1st week of December, 2009. I liked all of these, so this is a win this week for me lol. Hope you are in the mood for some strong auto tune, Omona!

#3 SS501 “Love Like This”

I remember really liking this song. A lot lol. It’s the first song that pops into my head when I think of the group now. That chorus is just so damn catchy. Wikipedia tells me this was the 3rd bestselling album of the year, after Super Junior’s Sorry Sorry and GD’s Heartbreaker. Damn, we REALLY loved auto tune back in 2009.

#2 Brown Eyed Girls “Sign”
This is still one of my most favorite songs from them. I loved this era, 2009 was such a good year for Brown Eyed Girls. Narsha looks freaking amazing here! They all look gorgeous! I still do the “dot dot dot dot dot” choreo with my imaginary fan lol. Speaking of the fans, you could totally hear them clicking open and closed through the live mics. Human fan chants also sound great lol.

#1 2PM “Heartbeat”
I’ll say it again: I thought that they ALWAYS ripped their shirts off in the live stages, so I was disappointed at this lol. But it’s still an amazing comeback stage! They did so great and the fan chants sound so good. That ending choreography is so iconic.

Honorable Mentions

#5 SeeYa “His Voice”
This was the first release after one of the original members left the group. She was replaced by Lee Soomi, who would also leave them to become the leader of Coed School and then F-ve Dolls (wow there’s some group names I haven’t heard in forever).

#7 IU “Marshmallow”
Oh, I was so into this back then lol! I think this was the first time I really got into one of her songs. She was so freaking cute! I also loved the live stages, cute choreography and such cute outfits. And so many thigh high boots, ugh I love!

Heartbeat really was a turning point for 2pm musically. Such a great era. It also started a trend with boygroups iirc

Im trash for 501 like theres no way that song should still be so catchy but here i am

Heartbeat omgggggg I loved that song so much! The closest I came to stanning a boy group was this era haha, I watched so many performances since the choreography was so good. That hair though, oof. Jun K is the only one whose look is fine, the rest of these looks didn’t age well

Sign is the song I might have officially ‘followed’ first - I was a newbie to kpop and the songs I was discovering were out for awhile, I found I really liked BEG and saw it was announced that they were making a comeback with Sign so watching it come out and being part of the experience - it’s very special to me 😊

Love Like This was SUCH a jam I hate that ss501 has been ruined forever by Kim Trashcan

It's been 84 years since I last saw that SS501 video and I just now noticed that that's Jaekyung. She looks smashing and I miss Rainbow.

I remember most of these, especially Heartbeat. It's scary how time flies...

SIGN!! Such a huge throwback wow. So good.

ALL THOSE THREE SONGS ARE THREE OF MY ALL TIME FAVES.
I was a hardcore triple S and Sign is one of my fave BEG songs of all times.
Heartbeat is my fave 2pm song ever.

2009, the year Kpop groups had to sing live still.
prob my fave year as a Kpop fan tbh

Sooo muccch nostalllgiaaaa ;___; This was right about the time after I had just gotten into kpop through SJ and SHINee that I decided "LISTEN TO ALL THE GROUPS!!!1!" so I listened to most of these. Love Like This was my jam. I really enjoyed how they spelled 'LOVE' with their hands and had a 4 part pic collage of me doing it on my FB xD 9 years later and Jungmin's cute cute cute fluffy hair still has me aowfiejsdoiik

And lol same about the dot dot dot dot dot choreo OP. Every time I hear it I do it. This song and Abracadabra (GOD TIER KPOP SONG) are my faves by BEG.

I remember really liking the fancy stacky-choreo for Heartbeat and being super impressed thinkin when will my favs ever.

2009 was a good year.

omg 'love like this' came out roughly when i got into kpop and i was shook.

Heartbeat is my all time fav 2pm song.

It's interesting to see how choreography has changed like the stuff theyre doing in these vids would now seem amateurish if they were to release it now

Oh man, I loved all these songs! 2009 was when I was WAYYYYY into kpop since I got into it in 2008. Time flies

Omg love like this was such a jam. Too bad ss501 had that trash can piece of shit member .

2009 was such a good year for kpop. heartbeat was the turning point for 2PM, it really put them on the map, made them the nations boygroup and gave them their beastly image.

also, this will forever be the best marshmallow performance. sad that zico never performed it live with her

but damn, you can tell that IU disliked this song so much. her face says it all
sra_interesante 8th-Dec-2018 10:26 pm (UTC)
yeah, to think she still performed those until this tour ...

good thing she officially announced she wont perform all those cute songs from her teenage years anymore lol

she was very specific about the kind of songs she wants to say goodbye and picked all those with childish lyrics & aegyo dances

SS501 was my first group I got into. I listened to all of their Korean and Japanese songs.
I watched all of their Korean and Japanese variety shows in 150pp quality on YouTube split in 10 videos, waiting months for subs (anyone remembers the weird "Stalker" show??)
And then I was very upset when during their LLT comeback this young new group started winning against them in music shows. So I decided to see what the new group is about. The group was Shinee and here we go, over 10 years later, still stanning Shinee to no end.
SS501 is mostly just a memory (I've never liked that person), but I still wish Jungmin would have a career that he deserves.
sra_interesante 8th-Dec-2018 10:18 pm (UTC)
aww too bad during this tour IU said she's retiring from performing all those songs from Marshmallow era ....

this tour i realised she isnt a teenager and she wont perform like one anymore
welljustguess 9th-Dec-2018 09:16 am (UTC)
I agree @ that ss501 song
babyjenkski 10th-Dec-2018 07:25 am (UTC)
It's been 10 years since I got into KPOP and SS501 will forever be that fave group who got me hooked.
