so many iconic songs in one year, wow
lizanka23 2nd-Jan-2019 06:21 pm (UTC)
-wow f(x)'s debut. they look like babies<3

- kara's iconic song that topped the japanese charts even though it was in korean (edit: or maybe i'm confusing it with step?) it's sad though that tvxq is still continuing with only two members performing at big shows in japan but kara have split even though they were pretty popular in japan ( not on tvxq level of course)

so many questionable fashion choices but still fun and wacky

"Mister" will forever be loved! And you're right, KARA was pretty big in Japan. I really wish they continued on even without the original members.
lizanka23 3rd-Jan-2019 06:06 pm (UTC)
yeah i feel like adding new members messes with the group dynamic even though i liked youngji

So many great debuts and comebacks one of the best eras 👑
I've been watching these throwbacks lately I miss my 2nd gen groups

ring ding dong was the first kpop mv that i ever knowingly watched and i remember i was so confused the whole time and didn’t understand why this one girl i followed on tumblr liked them lmfao

anyway i now love ring ding dong and 2009 is the golden year of kpop nothing will ever top it and i’m sad i wasn’t there to actually be part of it lol

gah. 2009 was really the best year. I know each and every song on this list and still LOVE THEM ALL.

Ring Ding Dong was what got me and my friend into kpop. It even played at her wedding, lol!

This was the year I went from being casually interested in Kpop to diving head-first into the fandom, all thanks to SHINee covering Forever or Never, and it's been so much fun and so fantastic elastic. I still listen to all of these songs except one.
benihime99 2nd-Jan-2019 06:46 pm (UTC)
Op as much as I love the walk down memory lane and this a+ quality content, you shouldn't claim the post as an "original" considering it's been done on other platform and ontd for a while now.

It doesn't seem fair...

So many memories! Omg! 10 years ago, KPOP was poppin!

Seeing these videos takes me right back to when i first heard them.

So strange, those songs have 0 impacts on me 10 years after.

I remember raving about most of them when they were out, but i absolutely do not enjoy listening to them again now. I only see them as tacky and cheap...It's strange, sometime i listen to other old kpop song and my mind instantly go crazy and it's a feel-good moment, i try to sing along and re-do the chorea but idk those songs don't do it for me...

The only one that is a nice throwback is heartbeat and that's only because i'm ultra biased for anything related 2pm lol

Idk if there has been a year that epic in terms of legendary songs or legendary scandals.

2009 you were something. Take a bow.

Heartbreaker, back when GD wasn't such a GD mess
strangerstheme 2nd-Jan-2019 09:23 pm (UTC)
I also discovered kpop that year, I blame 2ne1 although the first kpop song I've ever listening was Sori's Real Lips(?)
Listening to these songs is making me so nostalgic.. for me it's indeed the golden year of kpop

'Mister' was such a bop! I absolutely love/d Kara. Miss those girls. LOOOOL I remember laughing so much at 'Ring Ding Dong'. I love SHINee, but that song didn't and still doesn't do it for me lool. All these songs make me feel so old. Time flies, man!
froggster 2nd-Jan-2019 10:50 pm (UTC)
Oh man, I remember the reaction to Oh Yeah + How everyone hated thunder's voice and it turned out it wasn't even his own voice lmao.

The whole Heartbeat/1:59/Without You 2pm era after jay left and before he got kicked out. SO MUCH (fan) DRAMA.

so many iconic bops that year.
minho_lover 2nd-Jan-2019 11:56 pm (UTC)

i remember every release! aah what memories!

I came into kpop in 2010, but these songs were definitely memorable. so many great songs and debuts!

btw, I thought MBLAQ debuted in 2008, that's why they and SHINee were kinda close?

2009 was such a fun yet a tumultuous year - bops after bops then departure of JYJ, Jay, and Geng from their groups.

For a while, people lost their shit thinking that SM debuted a mixed idol group because of Amber in their first teaser.

And the variety shows, omg. SGB, Family Outing, Star King, etc. It was such a fun time to be a stan of diff. idol groups due to so many interactions with one another.

soooo many bops in this list
horichansenpai 3rd-Jan-2019 03:06 am (UTC)
Ring Ding Dong definitely wormed its way into my heart no matter how much I resisted lol

I only learned about kpop the end of 2009 so I missed out by an inch but there was definitely a lot of good stuff

FTI's I Hope era was a fun era

So many iconic bops in one year! Damn! I remember memorizing RDD by heart XD That was when I really started stanning Shinee. Kara and T-ara had so many jams. Mister is still my fave track by them and Bo Peep was the first song I heard by T-ara. Those two GG really should not have ended as they did, they deserved better! OTL

How the hell did I remember that B2ST and MBLAQ debuted the same time but not 4minute and f(x)? O_O

Heartbeat really is the ultimate 2PM song, that was their peak for me. Again and Again is my workout jam though XD

chibi_rei 3rd-Jan-2019 04:14 am (UTC)
I literally didn't start liking Hot Issue until like the last week of performances. But dang these are all pretty iconic for these particular groups.
aures 3rd-Jan-2019 12:21 pm (UTC)
one of the best years of kpop, absolutely

god i feel old now

i mean, i am, but............ this is a funny reminder
sweetestbliss1 3rd-Jan-2019 03:28 pm (UTC)
Yes!! 2PM's Heartbeat was such a freaking bop!!! So good and such a great concept. They used to be my favorite group back in the day. Sadly, I stopped following them after Go Crazy, I think. I think that's when JYP stopped caring about 2PM and let Jun. K produce their title tracks.....

2009 was really such a great year. The Gayo's were SO fun and I used to watch (almost) the whole thing. Now they're so boring and basically a rehash of the weekly music shows. This year's were slightly better (minus SBS'.....).
bauci 4th-Jan-2019 03:31 pm (UTC)
I feel like my taste is still stuck at that time...
shawarmafordays 6th-Jan-2019 11:24 am (UTC)
2009 was when I started listening to K-pop and it was such a trip. I remember being really into Big Bang and 2PM in the beginning and being so scandalized when Jay Park was kicked out, lol.

It was so different back then. I used to get news from translated blogs and that was when Allkpop was TMZ level trash with their articles.

The music from that time was so good, I still jam to so many of these songs - KARA, 2PM, MBLAQ, SHINee, T-ara. I really the miss the sound of that era.
