i REALLY wish they reached out to mondo grosso and went a dance route instead of budget AKB. at LEAST reach out to kara's japanese producers, like damn.

in general this sound has more misses than hits for me, so this album is near unlistenable.

but ummm the album covers are cute?

Now I'm sad because Mondo Grosso is amazing

I'm baffled by this comment.....the group has AKB/sister group members and is on the AKS label in Japan. Why would you expect their sound to be any different from the typical J-idol sound? "budget AKB" is just...they are literally AKB.

exactly lol
the point of it all was to promote AKS
wouldn't make sense to call other producers

no, they are not "literally" AKB, they are IZ*ONE.

there's no reason why they can't try a different or more advanced sound, it's not like all their japanese stans are coming from AKB and even if they were, this whole album is still a boring mess.

if this is the best sound they could come up with for this group, then that's sad.

Yes they are. The Japanese members did not leave their groups, they are only on hiatus from AKB/HKT. They will return to those groups once IZONE disbands.

I don't disagree most of the album is boring. But YES there is a reason the can't do something different, they're an AKS group. Aki P wrote all the songs on this album. This is what they were always meant to be, it was the whole point of Produce 48. Afaik idols in AKS groups don't have control over what their music sounds like. So expecting anything else makes no sense.

And I hate to break it to you, but most of the attention they are getting in Japan IS because the Japanese memebers are already known from AKB....why else would their albums sales be so high off the bat? I'm sure there's some new fans as well, but do you really think if IZONE had completely unknown Japanese members they'd be doing as well right now?? If so I just don't know what else to say lol

IZ*ONE is not AKB48. it's not like they're promoting in japan with only the japanese members. and yes, obviously the japanese members will return to AKB48 once IZ*ONE disbands, we are 3 groups in to produce 101, i dont need you to explain that to me.

as of right now they're promoting as IZ*ONE so that's who i'm seeing them as. excuse me for expecting something identifiable to them as a DIFFERENT GROUP that is clearly NOT AKB48. you're acting like me musically expecting BETTER is far fetched.

anyway, it's not that serious. i just think this debut is weak as hell given the landscape of japanese girl groups rn so it would've been nice to get something FRESH even within that tired ass AKB sound.

Same? I really thought they were going to cover the other, better song of the same name

I love the title track. The other songs will have to grow on me, or not. Covers are nice.

Their first day sales was 193k, which plays them as the number 1 debut sales for kpop girl group. and in the top 5 for overall kpop first day sales.

Suki to Iwasetei is fucking awesome I can't get enough of it. It's basically the perfect execution of a J-idol song imo. One of the only Japanese K-pop releases I've heard that I don't think would feel out of place on a J-pop playlist.

As to the rest...yeah it sounds like either the budget ran out or it was just rushed in general. More than anything I think it's the vocals that are bothering me? They don't sound too great...I wonder if the producers could've cleaned them up more. But I have no clue if it's the norm for AKS groups to phone in the B-sides. If that's case I'll probably just pay attention to the singles from now on.

pretty much every *48 song has iffy sounding vocals. they have so many girls singing at the same time and it's like they get lazy w/ mixing it all together, lol.

these are all what i expect out of an akb group. their chords are very predictable, you know how the song will go after 20 seconds... idk, at least suki to iwasetai was fun, the rest is just boring.
cuizy 7th-Feb-2019 09:11 am (UTC)
hmmm after reading the comments here I wasn't sure what to expect. I don't think it's bad... but I used to be into jpop and probably got used to the sound. It sounds like a slightly updated version of akb/ perfume songs.

Also I can't believe they got so popular in Japan... I still think the Japanese girls got shafted in the competition, more of them should've made the final group but oh well at least the Japanese audience is welcoming. Maybe it's like a novelty thing for them too

Also just to comment definitely best Japanese pronunciation I've heard by a Korean group.
