I doubt you'll get much already-debuted idols out under these conditions. I also doubt you'll get the best and brightest trainees/companies out. 5 years is fucking LONG. I thought like 3 years would he a happy medium but guess not.

Ofc they getting greedy with the success of the previous seasons but this is over-kill and too late imo

enough already

That's a longgggg time for a mixed group. I really wish I could read the contracts to know how much each company ends up getting as well a how much the actual idols who debut in these groups get.

Whoa.
These poor kids...
mewaqua1 1st-Mar-2019 05:43 pm (UTC)
this will def impact who will and who won't participate for this season, only already sunken (ex-)bg members will participate if they wanting to grap onto any chance to succeed (again) in the idol/music industry, i doubt mid tier bg will even join, low tier maybe, but perhaps only nugu groups, looks like this season perhaps aims for totally fresh trainees not bound to big companies (my theory: maybe as way to aim to have more power over the resulting group? to full have their way with it for the longest time)

I see companies joining that have very few trainees that they planned to debut solo...
mewaqua1 1st-Mar-2019 05:48 pm (UTC)
agreed, to ensure succesful solo debuts (like wanna one has started to do now and chungha has already proven to be possible)
juhli 1st-Mar-2019 06:50 pm (UTC)
Yeah, IOI really taught all of Wanna One's companies what not to do
vintage_boom 1st-Mar-2019 06:44 pm (UTC)
hmmm this is going to change the dynamics of the show tbh. 5 years for some idols is the entire rise and fall of their careers.

This feels like MNET trying to strong arm small agencies into giving up their trainees for the entirety of their career and making a fraction of the profits (though probably more than if they debuted them themselves). If MNET wants to debut groups then maybe they should invest in casting and training trainees instead of expecting other people, who already don't have a lot of funds to begin with, to do it for them. It's a possible win for the final lineup members though. I do feel like at some point a P101 group is going to tank (Wanna One were losing steam on their second comeback) and it's going to be awful for the ones who are stuck in that long of a contract.
juhli 1st-Mar-2019 06:52 pm (UTC)
leave the scouting, the training, everything to the companies and then reap the best trainees that are guaranteed to succeed based on the publics/fans votes. And then take a big big cut of profit.
vintage_boom 1st-Mar-2019 07:14 pm (UTC)
yep. I'll give it to them they figured out a great way to game the system and line their pockets.
juhli 1st-Mar-2019 07:35 pm (UTC)
Yeah, and the way they have been growing their power and buying up a lot of the smaller/medium-sized companies is pretty worrysome...
kcaomei 1st-Mar-2019 06:47 pm (UTC)
please make it stop

Mte @ your entire comment omfg.

damn this is a whole career. companies definitely aren't going to be sending their best, about to debut trainees...well i'm sure there will be some diamonds in the rough out there, and i'm not mad that they get this opportunity if they work hard for it anyways!
kastih 1st-Mar-2019 09:16 pm (UTC)
Only the most desperate trainees/idols will show up for this. I feel bad for everyone who belong to small companies, because that's really all that'll come out.

If they really make them stay for 5 years I hope they at least do like kbs and let them promote with their own companies/groups as well.

Okay so what's the percentage that a company gets from lending their trainees a project like this? There has to be some sort of benefit to handing over your assets (lbr that's what the company sees them as) for FIVE YEARS to another company.

male idols have at least three times the career lifespan of female idols (WHY WON'T SUJU FADE AWAY) but five years is almost the span of a full contract. From what I can see, this would only really benefit smaller companies, which might be what mnet is going for? Why play with the big boys when you can bully the kindergarteners into doing whatever you want, right?
pseudo_shigure 2nd-Mar-2019 03:40 pm (UTC)
i wonder how the second 2.5 year would be. bc if it's like how 9% with iQiyi rn, then the group is practically nonexistent i think since the members mainly doing their own thing. so, that way the 5 years wouldn't be like full 5 years. but yeah... also, do people as crazy about izone as they did with ioi and wanna one? bc i feel like they don't and now mnet is trying to pull this. i don't see it happening, mnet.
