Flashback Friday

Every week I go through the past charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more also from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s go back 9 years to the 1st week of March, 2010. I remember all these songs this week, maybe you remember them too! The top three have been posted before, so we’ll see some live stages this week. Have a good weekend, and Happy Birthday Omona!

#3 CN Blue “I’m A Loner”
Starting it off this week with something very catchy. Actually, they’re all pretty catchy this week. Anywho, this was the group’s debut and lead single off of their first mini. I didn’t know it was their debut, I thought this song way came later. This is still how I see them lol. Like, in my head they all still look like this wtf.

#2 Girls’ Generation “Oh!”
Ahhh my most favorite! My personal favorite SNSD era! I loved the styling in the MV so much, and this is one of my favorite songs from the girls. I even love the ending so much, like that last 30 seconds, with the fanchants and that choreography lol. Sigh I just love it and have a lot of feelings, lol okay?

#1 2AM “Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die”
Probably one of the group’s most recognizable songs, this was the lead single off of their debut mini album. This song got them their first music show wins, 2 years after their debut. This song, along with others from the album, charted in the top ten for weeks.

Honorable Mentions

#8 U-Kiss “Bingeul Bingeul”

I haven’t thought of this song in years, and it all just came back to me lol. The video, and choreography, ohhh the memories! And it’s still so fun! I mean, I’m smiling not just because of the bad hair and outfits, but also because I know I could bump this in the car and I’m looking forward to it. PS it’s still wild to me that 3 of these guys have kids now. Like damn UKiss lol.

#10 Gavy NJ featuring MJ “Sunflower”
I know I know this song (that chorus is really familiar), but I think it’s the first time I’m seeing the music video. It stars actors Lee Tae Seong and Lee Young Ah, the latter in a really pretty wedding dress. I’m digging the traditional/modern vibe of it, she looks so lovely. MJ recently released a new song last month.

Omg 2AM’s song!!! I haven’t heard it in years 😭 I love that song, I’m thankful for this post right now since I genuinely forgot it. Same with I’m a Loner, I really enjoyed that song too and forgot about it. So many memories right now lol

Oh! Is the song that got me into SNSD, I was obsessed with that era. Because I loved it so much I discovered other great songs of theirs like Genie. I remember being bummed with the follow up songs Run Devil Run and Hoot (which I like more now but I still don’t love either), I wouldn’t be really into SNSD again till The Boys era. Also Oh! perfected the cheerleader concept imo

U-kiss’s song is like 1 of the 2 songs I like from them lol

This post brought back so many memories for me too! I knew all but the last one.

I LOVED Oh!, the entire comeback’s aesthetic and blonde!Sica was 10/10, no one did the “Love it? It, it, it, it, it, it, ah!” part justice post SicaGate tbh and that one performance they did of it in the ice-rink? Iconic

the rink stage is iconic!

My only exposure to Bingeul Bingeul was the DJ Masa 2010 mash up which features it so heavily.

Oh got me through a pretty rough time in my life, I have a very special place for it in my heart, even if its not my fave snsd song

omg that U-Kiss song is such a throwback. Wait three of them have kids?!? 🤭
I love CNBlue’s debut song. It was so catchy! I like the Beatles styling of that performance.
Awww 2am! I miss their stuff. Loved this song.

Dongho, Eli, and Kibum are real deal dads now!

The original Gavy NJ members are all gone now
2AM crossed mind last month and I think I watched all their videos. I kind of miss them again.
I’m A Loner is the only CN Blue that I know by them haha

that cn blue takes me BACK
i completely forgot about this but when i was living in korea there was a lotteria on the same street as the school i was teaching at and me and all the kids would sing "lotteria, lotteria, shoo boop do doot do" to the cn blue tune EVERY.TIME. someone mentioned going there before/after class.

That’s really cute! What age did you teach?
goshipgurl 2nd-Mar-2019 02:42 am (UTC)
Aaah good old times!
I'm a loner is a classic.

I can still dance along to Oh!, one of my favorite soshi eras

U-Kiss' songs and videos did not age well

CN Blues debut with Loner is still hands down one of the best debuts, it holds up well almost 10 years later, & i was /in love/ with Jungshins long hair during that time
nekobot 2nd-Mar-2019 12:35 pm (UTC)
Jungshin reverting to standard short K-pop hair was one of the biggest aesthetic crimes ever committed in the industry. Even that mid-length bob cut looked fantastic on him.
ashdevilrun23 2nd-Mar-2019 07:08 am (UTC)
all three were such good songs and still hold up
Oh was the 2nd comeback of snsd i witnessed and this part is stuck in my head forever look at taeyeon go nyoom
sforza 2nd-Mar-2019 02:59 pm (UTC)
oh my gosh, thank you for bringing this to my attention, this is so good!!
staaan 2nd-Mar-2019 07:34 am (UTC)
oh! is the song/mv that got me into kpop

i still love the outfits from that era and the choreo has so many cute memorable parts... legends
cosmicdaze 2nd-Mar-2019 08:32 am (UTC)
oh! was the first kpop choreo i ever learned...it will always have a special place in my heart
lil_poisonfrog 2nd-Mar-2019 09:37 am (UTC)
I have a theory about Oh!'s influence:

First off let me say it's a bop and I still jam to it. The electropop/8-bit sound of pop at that time I think sounds the least dated from that era. I feel the same about Tell Me.

But also I remember hating the video because it was the first time I saw a girl group do an innocent/cute concept while being blatantly sexualized with the close up thigh shots and such. That shit is common now but it wasn't then. Girl crush / bad girl concepts like After School's Ah! and Diva, So Hot, 2NE1's Fire, Hot Issue, T-ara's I Go Crazy Because of You were the norm. And if a concept was sexier like Abracadabra, U Go Girl, or Son Dam Bi's Crazy, it wasn't subtle or trying to be sth else.

Also is this the first cheerleading concept by a girl group? We've had so many since then lol. If a 1st gen group did one I wouldn't know.

The period in between oh and rdr was when I fell into the kpop hole and became a sone, so it’ll always have fond memories. And the fanchants!

So glad it didn’t turn out to be like the English heavy demo. And yes to I’m a Loner, great debut and start of yongseo friendship haha
raisinrum 2nd-Mar-2019 03:02 pm (UTC)
first week of march 2010 ... damn, I officially became a kpop fangirl around that time so these songs are extremely nostalgic to me, especially CNBLUE's I am a loner because I was such a huge fan of them at that time.
