Prosecutors prepare to summon G-Dragon to court

Big Bang's G-Dragon will be summoned to an investigation for the violation of the Youth Protection Act and for lewd conduct.

The investigation will focus on G-Dragon's 1st solo concert last year, “Shine a Light”, which exhibited sexual and violent themes, and the fact that it was rated as "strictly prohibited for pre-teens under the age of 12".

The Eastern Seoul District Prosecutor official stated, “We are in the process of collecting and reviewing all the information on the subject matter,” then continued, “We will determine the specific time frame when G-Dragon will be summoned to this investigation after this.”

G-Dragon held his concert last December which included a sexy performance with a female dancer for his song, Breathe.

The prosecutors are seeking for reasons why “She’s Gone” and “Korean Dream”, which were banned by the same Act in November, were still added to the show.

The two songs mentioned are considered not suitable for minors and are prohibited for sale, rent, screening and/or distributing in any channels by this law.

Individuals who are convicted of lewd conduct according to the Article 245 will face fine not exceeding ₩ 5,000,000 and one-year imprisonment and the penalties for the violation of the Youth Protection Act are ₩ 20,000,000 in fines and three-year imprisonment.

A representative from YG Entertainment gave a statement on the issue saying, “YG will assist the investigators in this process and will take care of it on behalf of the client (G-Dragon)" and added, “we will hereby accept the decision and are responsible for the legal action taken according to the Act.”

This is not surprising, I'm not sure why some were expecting legal actions to not take place after all the announcements. Believe me, the Prosecutor's office involved in this isn't an "anti", doesn't care if "it's G-Dragon, of course he would do it", if he's a controversial idol, etc. It's their job and they're actually serious business. I'm not familiar with the South Korean Criminal Code but if what happened at the concert was against the law then YGE will have to go to court after the investigations and abide by what's decided. If they were in the limits of the law and are able to prove it, it simply means that everything will be cleared up and YGE's lawyers will have it easier.

Maybe it's because I am too used to working with the law but I never find these legal news as hysterical/worrying as some do. Good luck to all involved and I hope they are more careful in the future.

I don't think there's any ways to get around to performing a banned song in a concert that wasn't 19+ :/

I feel you there. I'm just chill here too :(

Just like what everyone said, SHIT JUST GOT REAL.
What I don't understand is that if the songs were banned, why is there a specific time for them to be aired/played? Having the songs ok-ed during Gayo Daejun because it was past 10? That's ridiculous! It's not like youngins these days can't find ways to access such performance or music, period. Also, why were tickets sold to fans under the age of 12?

I swear, they talk/treat this issue as if GD killed someone. Cops needs to chill the 6th letter out.
inheritable 6th-Jan-2010 01:29 pm (UTC)
There's laws like that everywhere. How is that weird at all? The chance for a minor to be exposed to them is much lesser at a point of time like that.

If he gets prison time from this, maybe he should just leave the whole damn hypocrite Korea move into Europe and start building career there. I think he might make it really big.

At the end of the day he shouldn't have done it.
He was trying to live up to his 'image', impress a shit load of people etc and it backfired on him.
Time will tell.
