BLACKPINK to Hold a Japanese Dome Tour

On April 15, YG Entertainment announced that BLACKPINK would be holding a Japanese dome tour this winter. Notably, BLACKPINK will be only the second K-pop girl group ever to hold a dome tour in Japan (following TWICE, who held their first Japanese dome tour this spring).

BLACKPINK will be performing at the Tokyo Dome on December 4, 2019; the Kyocera Dome on January 4 and 5, 2020; and the Fukuoka Yahuoku! Dome on February 22, 2020.

First thought: that’s amazing!!!!!
Second thought: wait... is this YG acting up again? overshooting demand and then tickets will be sold for less than face value because they ain’t selling?
It’s crazy that I can’t even be happy for his artists because I can’t trust nothing this man says
lil_poisonfrog 15th-Apr-2019 10:28 pm (UTC)
Yeah I wanna be positive but I just don't see how this is possible when they aren't selling nearly as well as Twice in Japan??
sforza 15th-Apr-2019 10:28 pm (UTC)
oooooookayyyyyyyyyyyy. i want the best for these girls but also mmmmmm.

also that's a really weird spread of dates to me, nearly 4 months difference between first and last date
lil_poisonfrog 15th-Apr-2019 10:37 pm (UTC)
Maybe YG is actually planning on delivering on the other girls' solos in between? Or another group cb? I meant I doubt it but
nekokonneko 15th-Apr-2019 10:28 pm (UTC)
is that wise?
theweebdream 15th-Apr-2019 11:18 pm (UTC)
Damn, those dates are super far away. I feel like that’s unusual for kpop concerts but maybe that’s just me
premonitioner 15th-Apr-2019 11:40 pm (UTC)
don't....tours usually have more dates? especially Japanese dome tours? Like Tokyo dome, good job! but where's the rest of the country? throw Nagoya and Sapporo a bone
goshipgurl 15th-Apr-2019 11:50 pm (UTC)
Honestly, are they even that popular in Japan?
wafflesnmilk 15th-Apr-2019 11:56 pm (UTC)
somewhat but definitely not selling out domes level lol
bubble_monkey9 16th-Apr-2019 02:21 am (UTC)
they're ok for a kpop group. japan has a big touring culture though so they'll prob get a lot of attendance from casual kpop fans.
sayuridoll 18th-Apr-2019 07:33 pm (UTC)
they sell well, but they aren't twice that's for sure
magicpineapple 16th-Apr-2019 12:15 am (UTC)
i have so many questions... mainly, can they actually sell enough tix for/sell out these places? or will it be something like what dongsaengkiller said in their comment up yonder 👆?

if they can/will, then hell yeah more power to em, but rn i have some... doubts
ashdevilrun23 16th-Apr-2019 01:01 am (UTC)
yg stays greedy
ohlookshiny 16th-Apr-2019 06:36 am (UTC)
even ikon (who tour extensively in japan) have never done a dome tour or performed at tokyo dome. it’s crazy that twice have only performed at tokyo dome for the first time this year (iirc) and they’re huge in japan, and blackpink have done bare minimum in japan and are doing it at the end of this year.
pseudo_shigure 16th-Apr-2019 08:52 am (UTC)
isnt dome tour is the one you have to get invited??
also snsd never done it?
nekokonneko 16th-Apr-2019 12:49 pm (UTC)
SNSD did Tokyo dome but not a tour. And I'm not sure about the others but Tokyo dome is by invitation.
tsubaki874 16th-Apr-2019 01:21 pm (UTC)

The Tokyo Dome in particular is invitation only, and is basically the Holy Grail of concert domes. Performing there is essentially proof that you're more than successful in Japan. You can have a dome tour without Tokyo Dome, but it's very rare for Kpop acts. TWICE was the first in 2019 and they got TD too. Most kpop acts do arena tours and then get invited to perform at TD.

The big firsts at TD: Rain was the first Korean act to perform there, TVXQ was the first K group/boy group, KARA was the first K girl group (1 yr before SNSD), EXO was the first K group to perform without any Japanese albums.

Edit: BP probably got TD because of their international success despite not being as popular as most kpop groups in Japan. My guess is they're going for international attendence vs mostly Japanese. (Sorry for edits, fixing grammar)

ok. i see. from what i see is if the most prestigious dome invited them, i can see why they want to just do the tour. also i heard, if TD invited the other just follow along (altho i'm not sure if it meant also inviting or for the agency to decide to just do the rest)

YG is such a sore loser he's becoming an embarrassment.
xoxkenzxox 16th-Apr-2019 01:47 pm (UTC)
Have they done any promotion in Japan? Any original Japanese songs or just Japanese covers of their limited kpop songs?

Perhaps it's so far away because YG wants them to do Japanese promotions between now and then.
sayuridoll 18th-Apr-2019 07:29 pm (UTC)
they have had promotions in japan whenever they had their first mini album but it was all rehashed songs that they have in korean. literally nothing is original. i am assuming??? they will release more music in japanese??
xoxkenzxox 18th-Apr-2019 08:33 pm (UTC)
they really need some Japanese original songs with promotions I think. They have 8 months to do it. otherwise, I'm curious how they will fill seats.
sayuridoll 18th-Apr-2019 11:57 pm (UTC)
yg had 9 months to give us ktl and it only had four songs on the mini and a remix of dddd

my expectations are beyond low

apparently their first concert sold well or that's what blinks keep saying lol
ramenhime 16th-Apr-2019 05:43 pm (UTC)
with what fans??
illmeltyoudown 16th-Apr-2019 08:22 pm (UTC)
mmmmm well maybe if they released a full album in japan i can kinda see it for them in japan? they are going to need new music, like a new japan album+ + the three new solos could work for them, but this is YG we are tallking , we are still waiting for that full album :/
chibiyunie 19th-Apr-2019 09:25 am (UTC)
Maybe I have been out of the loop with K-Pop in general but I thought Tokyo Dome used to be the venue that not just anybody could perform in. I remember SNSD not performing there until way into their careers and after releasing several successful Japanese albums.

I guess the way they are managed just rubs me the wrong way. I really wanted to go to their concert in Amsterdam but paying 170 euros for a group as unestablished as they are? No. Considering how small the venue is and how you are not guaranteed to have a good spot (first come, first serve), that is an investment that is not worth it.

I was hoping they would lower the ticket prices since they are not even close to selling out but so far nothing happened.
