Flashback Friday

Happy Friday! It’s a beautiful day out and I’m in a good mood. Hope you are too! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s go back to the 3rd week of May, 2013. All the songs have been posted before, so this week we’ll be checking out some live performances, mostly comeback stages. Some legendary idols on the charts this week.

#3 Lee Hyori “Miss Korea”
I wish she’d kept the crown on for the whole performance…but we really don’t need it to remind us that she is a damn queen! This was a pre-release single off of her 16 track (!) “Monochrome” album. I think the whole album is pretty solid, and I loved the styling this era so much. Expect those “Bad Girl” eyebrows. You know which ones I’m talking about.

#2 4Minute “What’s Your Name?”
I never got into this song, and I always forget it existed until it shows up in these posts wtf. Third time posting, so I wanted to share a more recent stage. So here they are doing the song on Sketchbook in 2015 during the “Crazy” promotions.

#1 Vibe “As I’m Getting Older”

I really liked this song, but the only music show stage that I could find cuts the song real short. Which is a shame because I prefer Ryu Jaehan’s voice to Yoon Minsoo, and I think that this stage showcases Minsoo’s vocals a lot more. But the song is really good, it’s one of those really songs with painful lyrics that you can cry along too lol.

Honorable Mentions

#6 Secret “Yoo Hoo”
I remember nothing from this era. Not the MV, nor the live stages. Usually I can remember one or the other. Or even the choreo or the styling. But I got nothing this time. And also sometimes some Secret songs sound the same to me, so I could be getting it mixed up with another one.

#7 Shinhwa “This Love”

This was the lead single off of their album celebrating their 15th anniversary, and it is a damn gift to us all. I remember some people implying that this choreography was embarrassing and they were too old for it, but I’m not trying to hear that and I love it idgaf lol. I felt like all of them really committed to it so they pull it off. Also, I may sound biased because Eric was my Shinhwa bias back in the day…but goddamn he looks so freaking good.

Monochrome was SUCH a good album from beginning to end. 'Oars' is my favorite by a mile but I love it

In contrast while I posted the MV and mini for Secret's Yoohoo I only listened to it the one time I did after making the post and have since refused to do so again, AWFUL

I agree with all of this. I wish we could get more songs like Oars in korean music.

...I'm not gonna lie, I don't think I've ever really listened to YooHoo or watched the music video again either...And I basically ran the biggest Secret international fansite...

With that said, I don't ~hate~ it, it's just that there are so many better Secret songs.

This Love is always a tonne of fun!!

And Secret's YooHoo grew on me, though I hated it at first, especially coming off of Poison, one of their best releases ever.

This Love was sooo good. Still is. Never heard that about the chereo, but not surprising since kpop is super ageist (esp for women).

ugh I still love What's Your Name. I think Miss Korea was one of the first kpop songs I remember; this was right around the time I would have gotten into it.

And of course the forever iconic and flawless This Love! I remember everybody doing animated parodies/covers of the choreo when this came out

No one should mock that Shinhwa, cause they fly, but those outfits were a choice.

Bless Lee Hyori for her confidence.

2013 was when I was still just getting into kpop and I remember watching Shinhwa This Love. It was so fun to watch and enjoyed it, it was the first song I had heard from them. I had to buy it as soon as I heard it. I was just listening to it again the other day! I think the Choreo fits them so well, they all looked very Sexy in it!
