Seoul Pride is severely in debt after last months festival

Seoul Queer Culture Festival aka #SeoulPride, which successfully took place last month with record attendance, is severely in debt, desperately needs to raise 30 million won (about $26K)to pay off loans. They cannot take out further loans. Organisers to hold fundraiser event on July 27, 3-11 PM.

This is interesting. QURAT - a fan group of queer people and their allies who are CARATs (fans of K-pop boyband SEVENTEEN), launch fundraising activities to help donate to the heavily endebted Seoul Queer Culture Festival.

That’s really great of Qurats to help fundraise to alleviate the debt. Is there a way to donate from overseas?

i read that the event is free which is great but that the merch wasn't really selling that well. i wonder if it's because a lot of the attendees are young people with limited disposable income or maybe some other reason

Or maybe they're nervous to use/wear pride merch in public/in front of family bc of scrutiny?

Yep :(((

yeah i thought that at first too but then i thought maybe they could just buy it to support the festival and not wear it outside of the festival but there is always the risk that parents will find it in your room, etc. maybe it's also a lack of sponsors as well since LGBT branding doesn't seem to be a thing in korea yet. i would be interested to see the age of the people that attended it this year

That’s really disheartening, specially after the good news that it had record attendance... I hope they can raise a lot of money!
On another note, those “Say the name” banners are really cute, I’d pay money for that!

Ahhh I love it! If they someday decide to sell abroad, I will totally get them!

it sucks that the festival was such a success this year, with record attendance, but the organisers are walking away with a big debt :-( Hope that the fundraiser will be a big success as well!
